Chapter Three

*edited*
Brielle's POV

I woke up with a bad headache and back in my bed. I slowly stood up and winced when I felt a searing pain travel up my arms.

I slowly rolled up my sleeves to see all of the bandages wrapped up to my elbows. I shrieked when I accidentally pressed too hard on one of the bandages. I lost my balance on the bed and collapsed to the floor connecting hard with the wooden floors. I groaned out and cursed my lack of balance.

The door slammed opened and Lincoln barged in before I could even attempt to get up. Great. Just great.

"Your awake." He smiled and hurried over helping me get up.

"You overused your magic." He said. I just nodded mentally yelling at myself for being so stupid.

"Brielle! What were you thinking! You could've killed yourself!" Yelled an angry James as he stormed through the doorframe. I suddenly found my fingers very interesting as I looked at my bloodied, picked at nails.

"I'm sorry." I heard him sigh before walking over and pulling me against his chest.

"You scared me kiddo." He whispered into my hair.

"Let me see your burns." He spoke quietly, pulling away. I lifted my wrists and he carefully removed the bandages. I hissed in pain a few times when the bandages weren't as willing to come off.

"Dad." Growled Lincoln when I shrieked. My skin has black and purple burns with bloody spots scattered throughout.

"I haven't gotten ones this bad in a really long time." I sighed trying to stop the frown from overtaking my face.

"No magic for the rest of the week." James scolded.

"No! Are you crazy! I need to practice! You can't take it away because of me just defending us from those rogues. If I hadn't we would have both been dead right now!" I said growing angry.

"I know! But do you want these to get worse! You have to know your limits!" His voice raising.

"Watch it." Growled Lincoln.

Suddenly James seemed to break. He grabbed my upper arm where there were no burns and yanked me out the room.

Lincoln ran after us as James kept shoving me through the house.

"James Stop." I cried. He opened the front door and pushed me out.

"Look at all of that!" He screamed. He's never been this angry at me before.

"Do you see what you did!" He yelled pointing at all the dead grass and dead flowers that now surrounded our house.

"Your powers are getting out of hand. Why can't you just be normal for once. You could have fucking killed somebody! Killed yourself!" He yelled rubbing his temple while his other hand still had an iron grip on my arm.

I just looked down at my hands while the tears refused to stop rolling down my cheeks. He's never, ever been that angry. Especially at me before.
I started wiping furiously at my tears. Pleading with myself to make them stop.

"You make it sound like I wanted these powers which I never did. I want to just get to be a normal eighteen year old without having to worry about hurting someone or people always out to kill me! I hate myself because I'm different! I don't want to be like this! And I'm just sorry you got stuck with having to deal with me. Once, I'm healed I'll fix this first." I spoke quietly, before walking away from the house and towards the woods. Not really knowing what I was planning on doing. James just needed time to cool off and me being around isn't going to help.

"Brielle." Said Lincoln hurrying after me. He grabbed onto my shoulders, turning me around and pulling me into his chest.

"He didn't mean it." He said wiping away my tears. I almost jumped back, surprised at the sparks that travelled through me at his touch.

"I think he did." My voice cracking at the end. "I just need a minute to figure out where to go because I don't think he wants me here right now." I frowned looking anywhere but his eyes.

"That's not true. And I plan on you moving into the pack house with me." He spoke.

"I don't want to intrude, besides you probably have a lot more important things to do anyway." I whispered unsure of what to do with myself.

"You're my mate, I was going to make sure you were living with me regardless." He snapped. I just shrugged in response, looking down at the dead grass around our feet.

"Come on." He said grabbing onto my hand.

We walked up the hill and since it was still really early, we shouldn't run into any other people on our way.

We finally reached the palace and luckily we don't think anyone saw us.

"Remember where my room is?" He asked me. I just nodded. Why the heck did I just nod I have no idea where I'm going.

"Alright, I need to talk to Brent. I'll be up there in a second." He told me, nodding his head for me to go.

"Who's Brent?" I questioned. He gave me a look of surprise.

"My Beta." He responded, and now I feel dumb.

"Go, I'll be there in a second." He said pushing me a little towards the staircase. This should be fun.

So I've been walking for about five minutes and have absolutely, no clue where I am. These hallways have too many doors and half of them lead to more hallways! How in the heck am I supposed to find the flipping room.

I groan out frustrated. That's when I spotted it, a rundown door at the end of the hallway.

I being my adventurous little self decided to go to it. What am I saying, adventurous, I've never left that house my entire life. Besides my old house.

I turned the rusty and scratched door knob and the door opened with a creak.

I saw a spiral staircase leading down. I began walking down then when I saw a string. That must be for the light. I pulled it but the whole string just fell down in my outstretched hand. Great. Suddenly growls erupted from the space causing me to jump back. I tried to steady myself but it was not use, I lost my footing on the narrow staircase and slid down. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. My bum hurts. I slowly stood up and the room was completely dark. I casted a quick spell to light up the room.

I know James told me not to, but do I really want to be in a dark room, in a basement, alone? Nope.

Light immediately traveled through the room and I was greeted by a bunch of old, worn cells. I looked around and saw a bunch of wolves who looked to be half shifted or something. I know I haven't seen much my entire life, but I've read a lot and none of the books I've read mention anything about wolves like this.

It was almost like they were half human and half wolf but in one transition.

I walked over to one who looked hurt and knelt beside it on the other side of the bars.

"Hello." I smiled softly.

It just whimpered.

"Can you talk?" I asked it.

No response just whimpers.

"Are you hungry or thirsty?" I questioned. It immediately nodded its furry head.

"I'll find something okay , I'll be right back." I spoke quickly and was about to go up the stairs when I remembered that spell. I know it's more difficult but it could work.

I raised my hands and started whispering the spell. Suddenly raw pieces of meat started taking shape. I continued chanting until it was complete, I created enough for all of them. As for water I saw a barrel with bowls that looked to be filled. I ignored the painful ache in my arms and picked up the bowls walking them to each cage. Once they all seemed better I stood up and began walking back up the stairs.

Once I closed the door I heard people yelling.

I walked towards the sound of voices when I immediately recognized Lincoln. I turned the corner and saw him and two other guys talking.

He must of felt my presence because he immediately turned around and saw me. His eyes visibly softened. But then went back to angry.

"Where the fuck were you!" He yelled at me taking large strides towards me. "We were looking for you for like ten minutes, I thought they took you." He whispered pulling me into his chest.

"I'm sorry." I mumbled.

"Come on." He said dragging me up the stairs.

"Where were you?"He asked me as we walked down another hallway.

"I...well kind of got lost and then fell down a staircase and then met these poor wolves who seemed tired and hungry and I talked to them and fed them and then I found you." I smiled. He gave me a look like 'are you for real.'

"What wolves Brielle?" He questioned his voice going an octave deeper.

"The ones down that scary staircase thing." I responded not getting what the big deal was.

"You're not allowed to leave this room until I say so."

And with that I was pushed into a room. However, me being my clumsy self fell over my own feet and face planted on to the hard wood floors. I groaned but slowly got up.

I walked to the door and tried to open it. Locked. Before I use my magic to open it I decide to check the burns, still feeling the aching and burning sensation from earlier. I carefully roll up my sleeves and slowly pull off the gauze. I cried out when my nail accidentally scratched one. Blood immediately ran down the burn. I grabbed a tissue and wet it before placing it over. The burns were now a darker purple with more red splotches surrounding them.

"Brielle?" Questioned Lincoln as he knocked I quickly and quietly left the cold, wet tissues on my arms, giving me relief from the burning. I opened the bathroom door and walked out. My sweatshirt was holding them in place. They were giving me temporary relief from all the constant burning.

"You can't just wander around, things could happen and I don't want to lose you." He spoke. I gave him a confused look and that's when I saw his eyes run down my forearm. I looked to where he was looking and saw blood staining my fingers.

"What the hell is that?" He questioned angrily.

I carefully rolled up my sleeves and showed him.

He immediately tensed.

"We need to get James now, that is starting to look really bad." He said examining my forearms trying not to touch any of the burns.

"I don't want to bother him, he probably doesn't want to talk to me right now anyways." I sighed, finding the floor really interesting.

"Too late, I already mind linked him." He said ignoring my shocked face.

"No...I just.. I ugh." I groaned resting my head on his chest.

We waited about twenty minutes before he arrived. I refused to look up at him. I didn't want to see the look of disappointment on his face when he saw me. I didn't want to see the regret of him ever having to take me in. I didn't think I could handle it.

"When did you use your powers again?" Was his first question.

"Forty minutes ago." I shrugged.

"I warned you not to use them." His voice raising slightly.

"I'm fine." I snapped back, my eyes landing everywhere but on James.

"Clearly. Or else I wouldn't be here right. Cause goddess forbid you be responsible for once in your damn life." He yelled. I don't know why but that hurt me in a deeper part of my heart.

"Mommy, what does it mean to be responsible? Rosa mentioned it while we were practicing." My 5 year old self asked.

"When you become older you will realize some of these things, but for right now don't worry about it munchkin. Your still a little kid." She smiled ruffling my hair.

"I'm not a wittle kid mommy." I told her.

I felt my eyes well up.

"I just need a minute." I spoke quietly, still looking down at my fingers.

"Brielle." Said James quietly.

I didn't give him time to finish I was already out the door and walking down the hallway while pulling my hair. I needed to release this but I know using magic would be an extremely dumb idea. I made my way out the door and began sprinting towards James and my old house. I Ignored all the stares I was getting and once I got there I opened the door and headed towards my room. I dug through my closet and pulled out a siphon globe. And felt magic get pulled out of my small body, but not enough. I need to release it. I'm going to lose my mind.

I got up and ran outside I screamed and felt all the energy leave my body before allowing myself to collapse to the ground.
