Chapter Nine

*edited*

Lincoln's POV

Two weeks ago

I hurried into the pack hospital holding a limp Brielle in my arms. My warriors are out there fighting off the remaining rogues. Nurses and doctors were rushing about, hearing that their Luna needed urgent medical assistance. I gently placed her limp, blood covered and bruised body on the medical table. I tuned out the chaos of everyone running around the room grabbing who knows what and yelling orders as I stared at my bloodied mate.

"We're losing her! Get the crash cart in here now!" The doctor ordered. A nurse rushed in pushing a cart on wheels with two paddles and several wires attached to it.

She can't fucking die. It would be all my fault. If I had seen that rogue coming she wouldn't have gotten hurt. She wouldn't have hit her head barely remaining conscious while still fighting off the rogues to protect me.

"Someone get Alpha Lincoln out of here." All hell broke loose after that. The heart monitor went flat.

"Son. Come on." James said tears filling his eyes as he tried not to look at her.

"Get the fuck off of me." I spat as I tried to fight off the several arms pulling and pushing me out of the room away from my mate.

I thrashed against them, when Dad got in my face.

"You want her to live?" He growled out. "Right now you are distracting the people trying to make sure that happens. Let's go!"

I looked at her one more time before I stopped fighting, letting them drag me into the too white, waiting room. We sat in there, waiting for an update for hours.

"Alpha." I glanced up and saw a doctor still wearing scrubs walk in. I quickly pushed myself up to my feet, dad following behind me.

"She had a few broken ribs and a mild concussion. We don't understand why she was crashing. We can't pinpoint it as of right now. She is currently stable...but.."

"But what?" I snapped at her.

"She is in a coma right now and we have no telling for how long she will be in it. We are keeping her comfortable and we would like to run more tests there just are too many things that aren't adding up."

"Lana. Come with us." Rosa and dad also followed.

I closed the door behind us before filling her in.

"She is a Tribrid. We don't even know much about it besides for her limits and powers. We don't even know if there are any others like her."

"That's impossible, stories of Tribrids are just stories, Alpha." She was raising a questioning eyebrow. She didn't believe me.

"If her secret gets out I will have you executed along with your entire blood line. Am I clear?" I told her. Maybe a bit harsh but I needed her to know the severity of this. Enough people wanted her dead I wasn't about to risk adding to that list.

"That would explain the crashing then. It could have been from her magic." She spoke a million ideas bouncing around in her head as she rubbing her temples.

"No." Rosa spoke for the first time yet.

"Her demon side that we have been suppressing is trying to get out. It's killing her faster than I thought." She frowned.

"With all due respect who the hell even are you?" I snapped at her.

"I helped raise her. Who do you think taught her the basic fundamentals of magic." She snapped right back at me.

"Watch it!" I growled my wolf itching in my head for me to let him out so he could rip her to pieces for her tone.

"Son." James spoke placing a hand on my shoulder. Snapping me out of it but doing nothing to deplete the amount of rage bubbling inside of me.

"What can we do to help her." I asked rubbing my temples trying to push the rage bubbling into my chest to the side. Brielle should be my priority not this insolent witch.

"We can up the dosage of the pill shaped potions I've been giving her. But that comes with severe consequences. Or we just stop suppressing the demon, let her let it out. Obviously that also has its own risks." She frowned looking at the heartbreaking view of my mate lying limp on the bed with tubes in her mouth, helping her breathe.

"Ultimately, it will be up to her. When she wakes up."

"This isn't fair for her. She didn't ask for this." I sighed walking closer to her bed to look her over more closely.

"She needs to be kept hidden. It's for her safety, along with everyone else's. People knowing about her is dangerous but not nearly as dangerous as she would be against them." She spoke looking back at me.

"She could hurt people accidentally or while she is asleep even. If you want to protect your pack from her she needs to be isolated from outsiders." She frowned. "I understand that it isn't ideal, but at this point, it's really the best case for everyone."

"That's no way for her to live. She is the Luna she needs to meet my pack. That's inevitable." I snapped at her for her disrespect towards my mate, her fucking superior in this territory.

"It's for both her safety and the packs. When will you understand that? There is no way around it." She snapped. She needs to speak less. No fucking being should be this irritable.

"What about her limits? Will releasing her demon make that change?"

"He is dumber than I thought." She mumbled to James.

I was about to launch myself at her but James pulled me back, glaring at the witch. At least I wasn't the only one who found her insufferable.

"Son." He warned again. I spoke too soon. I wanted to rip his head off now too.

           ————————————————

It's been a week and nothing has changed. I'm sitting next to her bed with my laptop out, working on pack work. The doctors had no telling of when she was going to wake up. My wolf ached for her. To see her laugh and smile. The rogue issue has been dealt with and I've been having Brent and Jake working on a team that only focuses on tracking down these fucking scentless rogues and ending them. No one here will rest until all of those pieces of filth are dead.

"Hello Alpha." A nurse spoke. He walked over to her heart monitor and copied down her vitals.

"Any news?" I asked him. He just shook his head frowning.

I looked back up at her bruised face and frowned. Things needed to change I need to keep her safe. I have to keep her isolated like Rosa said. Even though I don't like her i think she's right. That only a select few can know about her abilities or even her in general. I can't have something like this happen ever again. Nothing is worth jeopardizing her safety. Nothing.

I glanced back down at my computer screen when a small movement out of the corner of my eye caught my attention. I looked over my screen and saw Brielle moving her fingers around.

"Get the doctor!" I yelled at the nurse. He ran out of the room yelling.

Lana quickly ran in and checked my mate over.

"There is a chance this could be nothing, but it could also be a good sign." She smiled. A few minutes passed before she started to choke around the pipes down her throat.

Lana immediately pulled them out and Brielle opened her eyes.

"Oh thank the moon goddess." Lana smiled."Water?"

She handed her a glass and she immediately downed it.

"How are you feeling?" I asked her shutting my laptop and putting it to the side.

"Tired." She spoke quietly, her voice hoarse.

"You've been in a coma for a week." I spoke ripping the band-aid off.

Her eyes immediately bulged as she began choking on the water.

"You broke a few ribs and have a concussion so you are going to need to take it easy and rest." She smiled warmly at Brielle. "I want to keep her here for another few days to check up on her and make sure her wolf properly heals her." Great more time in this fucking hospital. I just want to get Brielle home and keep her safe.
