Some Things Were Meant to Be

All three of my siblings are waiting for me at the kitchen table when I walk through the door. Maddy rushes toward me, causing me to drop the items I brought in from the car nervously. I'm suddenly bombarded with questions from all three of them.
"How was the date?"
"Did she like it?"
"Where did you guys go?"
"Did you guys kiss?"
"Are you going out again?"
I hold my hands out. "Calm down, guys. I just got home." I walk over to the kitchen sink and fill a glass of water about halfway. "It went well. We had a really fun time. We went to the park and some stores nearby. And no, I didn't kiss her, it was the first date for goodness sakes!" Maddy lets out a disappointed sigh. "And yes, we plan to go out again." I take a sip from the glass and set it back on the marble.
"Aw, I'm so proud of you, big bro," Zack says, hugging me playfully.
"You should have her over for dinner one night, so we can get to know her better," Maddy suggests. That actually doesn't sound like a bad idea.
"Okay, okay, enough mushy stuff, guys. We need to let him get some sleep," Jay says. I pull away from Zack. Sleep. Ha. Yeah right. I'm grateful, though, that Jay is trying to get me out of questioning.
I bid everyone goodnight and head downstairs to my room. The date with Jenna actually made me tired—a good kind of tired—which is something that hasn't happened for what feels like eternity. Without even bothering to change out of my button-down shirt and skinny jeans, I crawl into bed and fall asleep within five minutes.

"How did the date go, honey?" My mom asks as I sit down on the living room couch.
"It was actually great!" I prop my feet up on the coffee table and stretch.
"Where all did you guys go?" my dad asks, sitting down in a recliner across from me and crossing his arms.
"Well, we started out with a picnic in the park, then went to the music store where we first saw each other--"
"So that's where you first saw him!?" My mom interupts.
I nod and return to my date report. "We also went to some shops around the square and he even got me this." I point to sun hat. "Can you believe it!? He's really sweet."
"It sounds like it," my dad says. "I think I can trust him."
"You ought to have him over for dinner sometime so he can meet the family," Mom suggests.
"What, to see this crazy family!?" We erupt in laughter. My parents hug me, and I head off to bed with the reassurance that my moving here might just have turned out better than I expected.
A/N: This was just kind of a filler chapter :\
