Jenna

"You got the last of the balloons?" Josh asks as he walks past me and into the living room, carrying the last of the gifts.
"Yep," I reply. I really hope Tyler and Mark will like this. Josh's whole family, along with Zack and me, worked really hard with preparation. A small sigh escapes my lips. Tyler looked so beaten-down at school today. I hope he'll feel better when we bring him over.
Zack jogs through the living room. "Well, I have to go pick up Ty." He's out the door before any of us can say anything.
Josh touches my shoulder. "Text me when he gets here if I'm not here with Mark yet, okay?" I nod, and he follows Zack out the door. The rumble of car engines fade away. My stomach churns in excitement as I busy myself with prepping for the party. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces.

Tyler•

School wasn't the greatest. Usually Josh makes a big deal about my birthday, but he didn't even utter a word today. No one did. I mean, I didn't expect Jenna to, because I never told her about it. I just thought someone would remember it, but no one uttered a word. Come to think of it, they were all acting strange.
Basketball wasn't that great either. The coach kept yelling at me. Maybe I've just been a disappointment to everybody lately.
I sigh and stare at my bedroom ceiling, hands behind my head. I jump slightly when I hear footsteps rumble down the stairs. Zack appears in the doorway. I twist my head as he approaches.
"I haven't seen you since school," I state.
He scratches his head. "Yeah, I was hanging with some friends. But now I wanna hang with you. I mean, it is your birthday. We should go out and do something."
Despite my lack of motivation to do anything at the moment, I drag myself off of my bed and stand in front of Zack, grabbing my coat.
"Great," he says.
"So, what do you have planned?" I ask as he leads me upstairs.
"We could go play ball at the park, maybe."
I consider my options. "That sounds cool."
"We should stop by and see if Josh wants to come along," he adds.
"It's worth a shot," I reply, shrugging as I climb into the passenger side of my car before realizing that I'm the one that should be driving. Zack climbs behind the wheel. "Wait a minute...," I venture. "You aren't sixteen yet, so you have to drive with an adult."
My brother grins wildly. "That's the beauty of your birthday being today. You're officially an adult now."
I roll my eyes, and he starts the car. Three minutes later, we're at Josh's. Zack climbs out of the car and walks to the porch, knocking on the door.

"Dude, just go in," I say. "Josh doesn't care whether you knock or not." My brother ignores me and cocks his head, as if listening for an inaudible sound. I approach the doorstep, and Zack finally motions me inside. The interior of the house is dark, the only light coming through the curtained windows. "What the--"

"Surprise!" I jump as the lights suddenly blink on and standing in front of me are Josh, Ashley, Abigail, Jordan, Mr. and Mrs Dun, Mark, and Jenna, all surrounding the kitchen table covered with streamers, a blue tablecloth, and a cake. "Happy Birthday!" they all cheer. A smile spreads slowly across my face.

"Aw, thank you guys. You didn't have to throw a party, really."

Josh walks over and puts me in a headlock. "What are you talking about, of course we had to throw a party for you!"

"It's apparently a party for me, too," Mark says. Josh releases me from my headlock.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" Mrs. Dun asks. "Let's all celebrate!" Josh puts an arm around my shoulders and seats me between him and Jenna at the kitchen table. Jenna grabs my hand immediately, as if I'll slip away if I don't have something anchoring me down. Mark sits on Josh's other side.

"The rest of your family should be here in a few minutes. We've already called them," Mr. Dun tells me. He pushes a home-made chocolate cake toward Mark and me.

"How did you know about my birthday?" I ask Jenna.

She grins wildly. "Josh and I have been planning the party since last week."

"You think you're so sneaky, don't you?" I lightly tickle her side, causing her to erupt in a fit of giggles. I turn to the others. "Thanks, guys." They truly helped my mood.

A knock sounds at the door, and the rest of my family steps in after Mrs. Dun answers. Each of them wish Mark and me a Happy Birthday, then take a seat around the table. My heart lifts at the sight of the grinning people. They're all here for me. They all love me. "Well, now that we're all here, I think we should get this party started," Josh says, interrupting my thoughts.

Mrs. Dun stands up and starts to lead us in "Happy Birthday." I glance at Mark to see both of our face have heated up from the attention. We both nod and blow out the set of eighteen candles sticking out of the cake. Everyone claps and cheers as Mrs. Dun starts cutting pieces for everyone. Mark and I get the first slices with a side of Neapolitan ice cream.

"Eighteen already," Mom states, sighing. "And yesterday you were just taking your first steps."

"Mom," I groan. "Please don't get all mushy here."

She laughs and holds her hands up in surrender. "Okay, okay."

All of us finish our cake, and Jenna takes my hand and leads me into the living room, where a huge stack of gifts lay. Mark and I sit side-by-side on chairs in the middle of the floor as family and friends start handing us gifts. Josh hands me the first box. "This one is from us," my parents say. I tear open the wrapping to reveal a basketball. Of course.

"Thanks," I say. "It will be good to have an extra ball for school."

Mark opens a gift next. "Dude! Video camera filters!?"

"That was from me," Josh states. Mark walks over to him and hugs him.

"I can start filming more music videos now." He grins wildly, then takes a seat again.

Jenna hands me the next gift. "This is from Jay and Maddy." I grin and open the gift bag to see some candy and a pair of socks.

"Socks?" I ask.

"Your old gym socks smell bad," Jay says, scrunching up his nose. Everyone laughs.

"Thanks, little bro," I reply. Mark opens another gift, then it's my turn again.

"This one's from me," Josh states. I tear off the alien wrapping paper to reveal a ukulele care kit.

"Dude! I've been needing one of these! This is sick! Thanks, bro!" Josh gives me a bear hug. Mark opens his last gift, then Jenna hands me my last present. I smile—I know it's from her,—and carefully peel back the paper to see a plain white box. I lift the flap and pull out a hoodie, then hold it out in front of me. It's black with skeleton bones and a zippering mask.

"I saw how happy you looked as a skeleton at Halloween, so I figured you could be one all of the time. It's last minute, but I did my best." Jenna shrugs, then squeals in alarm as I pull her close to me.

"Thanks, Babe," I murmur, kissing her lightly. Zack, Jay, and Josh all fake gag as Ashley whispers "I ship it." Jenna and I both roll our eyes, then snicker. I turn to the rest of the family and friends, one arm still around Jenna. "Thank you, all of you. You guys really didn't have to do this for Mark and me, but you did anyway."
Josh motions for everyone to get up, and Mark and I get squished in the middle of a group hug. The party slowly starts to break up. I stay with Jenna in the living room and slip the skeleton bone hoodie over my head.
"I really like this," I whisper, resting my forehead against hers. "I'll wear it to my next show." I peck her cute little nose, which makes her shake from chuckles. "Thanks for the party tonight."
"Okay, lovebirds! Everyone needs to get home!" Zack strides into the living room and pushes between us. He turns to Jenna. "We'll drive you home."
I glance up to see the rest of my family gathered at the door. "See you at home, honey," Mom calls. I wave goodbye as Mom, Dad, Maddy, and Jay all file out the door.
Josh walks over and hugs me, then side-hugs Jenna. "See you guys Monday."
I grin. "Thanks for all this, bro. You really helped my mood."
"No problem," he replies. Zack leads Jenna and me out to my car. I give in to his pleas and let him drive.

I sit on the edge of my bed and go through my gifts. The basketball from my parents and Zack. Maddy and Jay's gym socks and candy. My new ukulele maintenance kit. And of course, the skeleton hoodie from Jenna. I breathe in its new-smelling scent. I loved it the moment I removed it from the box.
I sigh and lay back, resting my hands behind my head. It's interesting how my day can shift from terrible to great.

   And back to terrible.

Groaning, I slap my hands over my ears. I jinxed myself into thinking that the voice would be absent from my mind for at least one day.

The voice torments me for what feels like hours into the night until I finally decide to get up and play a little bit on my keyboard. After ten minutes of silence in my head, I slip back underneath my covers. My eyelids become heavy, and eventually I fall asleep.

A/N: This chapter was written horribly, I'm sorry.
