"You look pissed." I close my eyes and try not to groan at the sound of Roman's voice. "Who's got you all worked up and quiet?" He asks.
I ignore the ghost and just stare ahead. My eyes are staring dagger at Damian. After ordering me to come see him, he hasn't tried to talk to me or made eye contact. It's for best, I mean I'm prone to speaking without thinking and that might get me in trouble. All I've learned so far is the magical properties of the seven sacred herbs, and man are they broad? I don't bother to take notes because Damian is going too fast and I'm a slow learner. I need to digest his words before I can get it.
"It's lover boy then." The ghost finally gets it. But that doesn't mean I want to reply him. "Come on, Cami. Talk to me or I will make you do something you don't want to do."
Calling his bluff because ever since the grinch left me and ghost Roman started showing up permanently, he hasn't been able to do anything to me. Can he? He's just a fucking ghost. He's a spirit, so why waste my thought on an empty space? I didn't forget what I discovered about him but I decided not to pursue it yet because I just came back and I don't need that shit right now. I need to focus on myself and school. Cami 2.0 activated.
"Don't say I didn't warn you." He phrases out and at the snap of his fingers the whole class disappears leaving me with Roman sitting behind the teachers desk.
I hold the chair to suppose myself as I look around the empty class in awe. "Wha... What's going on? What did you do?" I ask and even though I'm scared as shit, I don't let him get the satisfaction.
"Now I have your attention." He winks and leans back against the chair before bringing his legs up and prop them on the desk.
"What are you? Are you doing this? You shouldn't be able to do this," I say, not sure what to think. He shouldn't be able to do this.
He raises his head up and taps his finger on his chin like he's thinking about it. Seconds later, he scrunches his nose and shakes his head. "I get that you have questions Cami, but I can't answer them. You need to ask her," he answers.
"Ask who?"
"I could tell you but I decide not to," he shrugs.
I slap my palm against my desk and get on my feet. "This has gone on long enough, tell me who she is or I swear I'm going to–"
"Going to do what, Cami?" He asks, as he uncrosses his legs and takes it off the table. "Kill me? Bitch, I'm already dead and guess how I dead." He's baiting me and I'm taking it without question, which makes him satisfied and makes me angry.
I leave my seat and stalk towards him. Swiping my hand to the side, I use my powers to push the desk from his front. The wood goes crashing against the wall and I go after the spirit. "Don't make me do my worst." I warn even though I don't have anything against the ghost. "Tell me who she is!" I demand.
His smirk only angers me. I bend over and grab the collar his shirt before bringing him and slamming his back against the wall. It's like he weighs nothing and–
Wait... It's like he weighed nothing. I just grabbed his collar.
I shouldn't be able to do that. I haven't been able to do that. What's changed? The real question, what is going on?
"You can feel it, can't you?" His voice breaks into my thoughts, causing me to lose my head for a second.
"Feel what?" I apply more pressure, digging his back against the wall.
"Your mind is slipping. You can feel yourself losing your mind," he tells me.
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
"Tell me something, Cami. What are you going to do when you find out all this isn't real? That I'm just something you made up, the figment of your imagination. So tell me, how fucked are you, Camille Stark?"
"Camille!"
'Camille!'
I hear my name in my ears and head simultaneously. My eyes shoot open, I wasn't aware it was closed until my eyes connects with a familiar green ones.
What?
My eyes roam Damian's face before dropping to where I have my hands wrapped around his neck, my fingers digging through his skin. I blink and unwrap my fingers slowly before taking a step back. In a shaken state, I look around the classroom and see everyone's eyes on me. I can't read all their minds at once but I can guess what they're thinking: I've finally gone insane. I turn to face Damian, who is already looking at me, the worry and concern is written on his face.
Fuck! What did I do?
******
"Like I told the last hundred times, I'm fucking okay. What else are you looking for?" I glare at Damian as he hands me a cup of coffee and asks what happened in the classroom.
I mean that's the question right? What happened in the classroom? What the fuck happened in the classroom?
The big question I'm having a hard time answering myself. One minute I was talking to Roman's ghost and the next I'm fucking screaming in Damian's face and yeah all those screaming I thought I was doing to ghost Roman, it turns out I was actually yelling at Damian.
First, I can't explain what's going on and second I can't believe it happened. I was known as a freak last semester because of my 'bird attack' at the West High, The Vale game and now this. Gosh! No one is ever going to talk to me again. Crap, Caleb. I probably scared the shit out of him too.
But to be frank, I really need to look into what's going on. I mean, apart from what happened last semester with Jessica's spell, this has never happened before and everything changed when I came back from the island. Ghost Roman was also friendly and teasing me but he became mean and more mysterious when I got back. God! There's something about this whole place that seems so wrong.
I know the headmaster and Damian wants to know what's going on but I can't tell them not before I find out what's going on myself. I have to talk to Jessica, she wrote that spell and she knew what it was about. She told me that day that I created a fantasy based on my memory. I need to know why the spell changed and most importantly, what the spell means.
"You aren't okay, Camille. You almost killed me," he reminds me and I scoff at that. "You didn't see your face, I did. It was scary, nothing like I've seen before. It was like you were possessed by something. Tell me what happened." He demands.
I wave him off and turn to the headmaster, who looks like he's got a lot going on. I hope it's not because of what Damian told him that's making him pace around. Damian ended the class after my show and brought me to the headmaster's office.
"Hey, do you think I can borrow one of your cars? I need some supplies and I can't get them here." I ask.
He stops pacing and turn around to face me. "Wow, you're looking way spookier than normal. What happened? Walked into the wrong Halloween makeup shop?" I tease, hoping to lessen the tension.
Damian comes to bend over, dropping his hands on the ottoman to support himself as he comes face to face with me. "Nothing ever get to you, does it? Or you just pretend to have everything under control when you're scared as shit inside!" He snaps.
My eyes goes wide for two reasons. The first being Damian cursing. He gives off the bad boy vibe but he behaves like a good boy, which includes reframing from ever saying a curse word but he did that today. Second is, he lost his cool with me, something he never does. Sure he calls me out on me bullshit but he never snapped at me.
"I show everything out. I'm plain as fuck and you know that!" I reply, my tone matching his. "Why the fuck do care? I'm sorry for jumping you, is that what you want hear? Stay out of my business, Damian and I keep away from you." I glare at him and face the headmaster. "I need to get a new phone as soon as possible. Can I take your car or find another way?"
"Cami, I'll get you a new phone." The headmaster simply says, not mentioning the matter at hand and I like that.
"Can I come with you? I need other things."
"Sure. Whenever you're ready."
"Father–" The headmaster cut him off.
"Leave her be, Damian."
I wiggle in my seat as I give Damian a mocking smiling. I won bitch.
"Okay. I'm coming with you."
"Hell the fuck no. You are not coming."
"I'm going or you are not going anywhere." He gives the ultimatum and looks at his dad, that share a look, which makes the headmaster nods.
"Oh, fucking–"
"Hello again, Cami." Ghost Roman greets beside me.
I jump and face him. "What the fuck do you want?"
"Camille. Are you all right? You look like you've seen a ghost?"
You have no idea.
"Shut up!" I glare at ghost Roman.
"Don't talk to an old friend like that especially the one who died for you," he teases in a cheerful tone not like the one he uses before.
"What did I say about guilt tripping me? it won't work, What the fuck are you doing here?" I demand, not caring that Damian and the headmaster can hear me talking to an empty space. Yeah, maybe I have gone loco.
"Are you sure because–"
"Quiet!"
"Cami, you all right back there?" The headmaster asks, he's already sitting behind his desk, looking better. Whatever happened must have been resolved.
"Me?" I try to play it safe but I know better or there are some people that knows me better. "Oh, I'm fine. I'm great."
"She's lying." Damian knows.
I face him. "I'm sorry, did anyone ask you?"
I don't get why he can't just leave me alone. Ghost Roman is way worse but at least he listens when I ask him to fuck off. But not Damian. I don't get the guy. He doesn't want to be with me and yet he keeps inserting himself in my life.
"Are you okay?" He asks in his usual calm tone.
I roll my eyes. "I already told you, I'm good."
"Cami, tell your boyfriend and headmaster the truth." Ghost Roman appears again.
I groan and close my eyes. "For fuck sake, He is not my–"
"Cami, are you seeing someone? Because it looks like you're talking to yourself." The headmaster comments. I'm surprised he noticed. So hilarious. Of course it looks like I'm talking to myself. Maybe it's because I am. Is he blind and deaf?
"I hear it therapeutic." I shrug. I have a really long day ahead of me.
"Only when you're going insane." Damian adds. It's like they all had a meeting to gang up on me or something.
"Fuck you!" I face the headmaster and asks, "are you going to let him talk to me like this?"
He looks between his son and I, reading us. Not sure what he's looking for. But his question surprises me.
"Is there something going on between the two of you?"
"Like what?" I fire.
"I don't know, Cami you seem uptight."
"She's always uptight." Damian adds.
"Always uptight? The fuck. I'm done. Fuck you two!" I stand up and head for the door. "I need a phone and hair dye." With that I open the door and walk out, making sure to slam the door behind me.
