Heartbroken, she shook her head and backed away without taking her eyes off him, which paid off because just when Caleb was about to say something, he raised his head and met her gaze. She wasn't expecting it and thought it was just a mistake but he held the gaze. He was watching her like this was the first time he was seeing her. It was the best moment for Sofia because to her it felt like no one was inside the room with them. It was just him and her until Caleb's girlfriend wrapped her arm around his waist and pressed a kiss on his cheek, which pulled his attention away from Sofia.
She didn't mind. At least he noticed her and she knew he would find her later.
She returned to her corner with a big smile on her face. She watched Caleb interact with his friends. She waited for him to look at her again but he never did, so she went upstairs to look for her friend. She opened the first room she saw. It was dark inside, she went inside and pressed her palm against the wall to find the light switch but she didn't, at least not before she felt another person in the room.
"What are you doing in here, Sofia?" Caleb asked behind her.
Sofia swallowed. "You know my name," that was the first thing she said.
The sound of the light switch flickered and the light filled the room. "Of course I do. Turn around."
"Why?" She asked, not turning around.
He approached and stopped right behind her. "You're hiding from me, I don't like it when people hide from me. Show me those beautiful brown eyes."
His words made her happy. And she did as she was told. She turned around slowly and met his gaze. She was so nervous and excited at the same time.
"Happy now?" She asked him.
He smirked and moved closer to her. "Very," his arms goes around her waist as he pulled her closer to him. "Why have we never talked before?" She shrugged, not answering him. "I think this is the first time I'm seeing you. Why is that?" She blinked at him, also wondering why they'd never hung out. "You've been hiding from me, haven't you?"
She shook her head.
"You're very–"
The door of the room was suddenly yanked open, interrupting whatever he was about to say, "Caleb, are you–?" His girlfriend stopped and staring at the both of them. "What is going on in here?" She asked, her eyes glued on Caleb's arms around Sofia.
"It's not what you think," Sofia quickly said, and tried to pull herself away from Caleb but he kept his arms where they were, not letting her go.
"What do you think I'm thinking about right now?" The girlfriend made a move, a very fast one that even caught Caleb off guard. She went behind Sofia's back and grabbed her hair.
Sofia grunted. The girlfriend moved Sofia's head to the side, showing Caleb her neck. "Beautiful and fresh, don't you think?" Caleb smirked again. "You always love them beautiful and fresh, innocent too. You know what tonight is?" She yanked Sofia's head back and asked her the question.
Whimpering from the grip the girl has on her hair, she shook her head.
"Tonight is the night you all fucking die."
Sofia froze up.
Caleb tsked and removed his arms off her. "Don't scare her, Claire."
I try not to break concentration at the sound of that name. Claire? What are the chances that the name is just a coincidence?
"Why not? We'll kill her eventually, isn't it better we have fun with them before we drain their bloods?" She stuck out her tongue and licked Sofia's neck.
"I like her." Caleb blurted out.
Sofia's heart skipped but not from Claire hold but Caleb's admission.
"You do? You like this girl?" Claire asked like she couldn't believe what he was saying.
He nodded. "And that's why I'll spare her tonight."
Claire eyes widened. "What?!" She exclaimed at the same time she yanked Sofia's body back, causing the girl to go flying around the room, slamming against the wardboard, the wines they kept hiding at the top of the wardrobe came crashing on her.
Sofia was laying passed out on the ground but her eyes and ears were opened, so I could still see and ear what Caleb and Claire were arguing about.
"Are you out of your fucking mind, Caleb? You know we need to kill every single one of them tonight," she reminded him.
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, for you. All for you. I've done everything you've asked me to do, every single thing and I'm asking you to do this one thing for me. Just this one."
"You want talk about doing every single thing I want, then you shouldn't have stolen my fucking heart but you did it because you wanted power, now how is that working out for you."
Everything goes blank on Sofia's mind. I think she's gone unconscious, which is why I can't see anything anymore.
I dig through and shovel her memories of that night to where she woke up that night and it appeared. This time she was sitting on a green grass, she was wearing the dress she had on in the picture. Caleb was laying down on her lap with Claire sitting beside her. It looked like a recreation of the picture but I have no idea how she got here and seeing as how she was looking like a ghost, she had no idea how she got here either.
"I think that's enough," Caleb complained and removed his head from Sofia lap.
"We should get more pictures, you know, something for Sofia to remember you by," Claire smirked as she watches Caleb's reaction.
"Remember me by? What the fuck, Claire? You said you were going to leave me after you drank from her. You've done that, what else do you want?!" He was angry and Sofia wasn't moving.
Not even sure if she was aware of what was going on.
Claire stood up and glared at him. "We still have forty four people to drain, Caleb unless you want me to wreck your life more than I already have. You murdered me, your own sister, your own flesh and blood because you were jealous of my powers. You took my heart but you weren't prepared for my ghost to haunt you. So pardon me if I don't feel like sparing your precious little crush."
"Fuck you!"
"Oh, quit being a baby, Caleb and let's get to work. Midnight is approaching, we need to start the ritual." Claire pressed.
Caleb rolled his eyes. "Fine, but Sofia is last."
"Okay, brother, it's not like she's alive, you already put a loop in her memory. All she's seeing is you and her being love," Claire looked at Sofia and laughed. "Poor Sofia. She looks so innocent."
"Are we bad people for doing this?" Caleb asked.
"Of course you're a bad person. You killed your sister for power and you have to sacrifice forty five people to renew those powers before you went ahead and got beaten by a vampire."
"Fine. Let's go."
Sofia stayed on that ground, staring into space. Caleb's spell worked and I know why her recollection of what happened that night are different from what really happened. It was because she doesn't know. I could hear the scream of the people but I couldn't see because she didn't move from where she was. Some time, Claire came running but she was limping like she'd been hurt, it was until she came close that I noticed the blood streaming from her ear and legs.
She came for Sofia, grabbed her by her hair and wrapped her hand around her neck.
"Claire!" Caleb shouted from a distance, looking okay compared to his sister.
"One more step and I swear I will fucking kill her." She threatened.
"No you won't, you need her to keep yourself alive in that body. And you need me to cast the spell that will bind to that body. Kill her and I will fucking end you for good." Caleb told his sister and he was serious.
Claire shook her head. "No, you won't. You can't."
"Fucking test me." He snarled as he moved closer.
Claire tested him as she opened her mouth, revealing the long nasty fangs and sunk it in Sofia's neck. She didn't whimper or show any reaction, it was as if she couldn't feel anything.
"Nooooo!" Caleb screamed and rushed forward.
His sister pushed Sofia forward and tried to run but she didn't get far. His confronted her and didn't give her a chance to talk. He sank his fingers inside her chest and removed her heart and ate it after that.
He grunted and clenched his chest and feel down on the ground. He raised his head up and screamed so loud that it rang in my head and then he fell down down.
The next memory appeared when Caleb opened his eyes, he was on Sofia's lap, she was cradling him. "I'm sorry." He was whispered after a while, raised his head from her lap, he knelt down beside her and checked her neck for her wound. "Fuck, I'm sorry." He licked her wound and it healed.
He stood up and looked around the field. His eyes found Claire dead body, he grabbed her leg and pulled her towards the house. Sofia stared ahead until the house flamed up, burning.
Caleb never returned and she waited for him until the firefighters arrived and saw her kneeling inside the house.
I remove my hands from Sofia's hand and stare at the poor innocent girl. She's just a victim. I wish there was a way for me reverse the spell but I can't, I'm not a wizard and I don't even know the spell he used, I can't even begin to think about the spell because I couldn't even find the memory loop.
I know why Caleb is doing everything and book of Earth's greatest Evil got his story wrong. It has always about him and his sister.
How does Camille fit into it?
"Did you find out everything?" Malcom asks but I can't tell him anything because the life of the only person I care about might be in danger.
I open a portal back to The Vale, Camille's room. I get off and notice her bed empty. I open another portal to Nathaniel's room and see him and Jessica laying on his bed, watching a movie on a laptop.
"Where is Camille?" I demand.
The both jump in fright. "What in the bloody hell, mate?"
"What the fuck, Damian?"
"I'm not fucking around, where is Camille?" I ask again, this time with a tone that tells them I'm not joking.
They both look at each other, knowing something's wrong. Jessica answers me. "She's on a date with Caleb."
I knew she was on a date but I'm not sure how long I spent in Nosalys.
"Since when?"
Her gaze moves back to the laptop to probably check for time. "Six hours ago."
I clench my jaw.
"What's going on, Damian?" Jessica asks as she gets off the bed. Nathaniel tries to pull her back but she moves away. I'm aware of the tension between them and Camille, and I won't bring them into the matter.
"Nothing that concerns either of you." I reply harshly and stretch my hand out to open another portal.
Jessica speaks again, "how can you say that? Camille is my best friend."
"Agreed. I'm saying what's going on is none of your business. Have you seen Alicia Chains?"
She shakes her head. "Not since this morning."
I enter the portal, arriving at father office. He holds his hands out to stop me from speaking. "Don't say anything, I already know what you're about to say. Let me inform you Caleb, Alicia and Cami are not longer on the school premises."
As I feared.
"Have you found her?"
He tilts his head to the side.
Shit.
