'Lla fo my lefi I vea nid nid yob kightin herft lar gan ot eth dong eki na leppa ot ah eospurp'

I remember the spell Jessica told me would keep my company, which turned out to be my nightmare. I don't usually keep spells in my head, but It's not every day my life turns upside down from a spell that was supposed to help me.

The first thing I should have done was talk to Jessica but after my talk with Nate I realized how much of a pain I've been in their lives. What he said hurt but I guess it was true in a way. I'm not angry at world but I am angry. I'm angry at the headmaster. I'm angry at Jessica, at Nate, and something I have no control over, which is my situation with the spirit I've been seeing. I never realized how much of a burden I've been to everyone. It never crossed my mind until I heard Nate say it. It was like he used the time I was away to rethink some things and he probably realized that I'm not worth the stress. He was never supposed to be part of my crew but he did it for Jessica. Wherever she goes, he follows and I think he's bored of her worrying about me.

What changed? I guess I will never know.

Jotting down the spell in my notebook as I look around some spell books and grimoire I borrowed from the library. I don't want to confront Jessica yet, I want to be sure that I've been seeing something because the spirit might be right and I might be losing my mind. The stress of what happened last semester is still there, I'm yet to deal with it and I'm not ready. What if that's why I'm like this? I mean, I started seeing the ghost after everything happened.

I've been looking through the book I took and haven't seen anything that might clue me in on what's been going on. I close the last spell book and reach for my phone that's buried under the textbook. Tapping the screen twice, I see the time is almost ten o'clock. Way past curfew, explains why the school is empty and quiet. It's good though, gives me time to work.

I slipped into the library right after closing hour and I've been here since. Haven't eaten dinner and all my research haven't been productive. I can't find anything about the spell or spirits that shows up every now and then.

It's like I've been going around this whole thing all wrong. Maybe I should narrow my search to just ghosts. Are they real? They should be. I mean, magic's real and pretty much everything I thought was a myth is real, so ghosts are real. Can they plague someone? Can someone be controlling them?

I think the real question is what is the power of sage mage? How powerful are they? What are they capable of? Their power must be pretty important because Arihmatheo kidnapped Jessica for her powers. That should mean something, right? It's show–

Movement.

I feel a movement behind me. It's faint but I feel it. I turn my head around to see what it is but nothing catches my eyes. I shrug and face front. Maybe it's just the breeze and–

The sound of a glass shattering booms throughout the library. "What is–?" The doors begins to slam shut. I look left and right in fright.

I drop my phone on the table and stand up slowly, being really careful not to make any sound. "Is anyone here?" I ask loudly but the only response I get is the sound of my voice echoing back. The place shouldn't echo, something freaky is seriously going on here.

I begin to walk towards the direction the shattering came from. It leads me to the librarian desk, right beside it on the floor is the broken pieces of Abraham Lincoln's statue Mr. Groff kept on display.

Something moves past me in a flash, causing goosebumps to spread all over my body and chill running through me. "Who is here?" I demand because I can't fight what I can't see.

I turn around to–

"Boo!"

I jump up and scream.

Laughter erupts out of him like an angry volcano. "Oh, my God. Oh, my God, Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God. You should have seen your face right now. It was priceless." He laughs, ending with a snort.

Still rubbing the shock from my chest, I glare at him. "What in the actual fuck? Are you trying to kill me?"

He bends over, his hands on his kneels to hold himself. "Oh, my God. I'm sorry but I had to do it, you were so scared. Your face was the real definition of scared, you were like–" he stands up to show me the stupid expression on his face. "I couldn't resist."

"What are you doing here, Roman? Like what the fuck?" I scowl at the stupid ghost I was doing research on.

He shrugs. "You've been so grumpy lately and I thought after everything that's been going on, you need a friend, you know, since your friends wants nothing to do with you."

"Let me ask you something," he nods, giving me the go ahead. "How do you know all this about me? Please, is it what Jessica wants?"

He shakes his head. "Like I told you repeatedly, this is all in your head. Someone created me but you gave me life. It's all you, Cami. It is all you."

"But I didn't do anything. How can I quit you? I don't want you around me anymore. Leave me alone."

He takes a step towards me and I take one back. "You can't banish me. I don't answer to you."

I notice the lights in the library begins to flicker. "What's going on? Stop what you're doing."

He smirks and shakes his head. "I'm not doing anything."

All the shelves begins to shake, books dropping from the shelves. "Stop it. Stop this NOW!" I scream and at my command everything stop.

What? What is going on?

I turn back and something hit me. My eyes goes down to see a knife thrust inside me, the lower right part of my stomach. I look in front of me to see nothing. Closing my eyes for a brief moment before opening it. No, I'm not dreaming. I just got stabbed by nothing or at least I think it's nothing because I can't see anything.

The handle of the knife begins to turn and the blade of the knife twist my inside. I reach forward to touch whoever it is but all I feel is air until I feel a rope wrap around my neck by an unknown assailant.

"Damian if you can hear, I need you. I'm in the library."

******

DAMIAN

I burst open the door to father's study to see him watching the surveillance from The Vale. He's got camera everywhere but he rarely watches it because it's what he installed Mr. Snickle for, to be his eyes and ears in the school since he's been busy with finding who entered The Vale without authorization.

"Father, you called for me." The door shut behind me as I speak. He's standing in front the many screens that oversees each and every corner of the school. There's a flat pad on his hand while the other hand controls the mouse. "What's going on?"

"You know how I told you that someone broke into Di Hipsodat without authorization," he says without taking his eyes off the screen. "I found the energy signature of the portal the person used. Earlier today Mr. Snickle reported an unusual activity and I checked the magic defense system of the school, it's down."

"Camille?" She's done it before.

He shakes his head. "No, it's not her. I thought it was her until I check the heat signature around the gate at the time it happened and it was not Cami's. It's the same energy signature as the one I found on Di Hipsodat. Someone entered the school without permission and I've been looking over the footage over and over again and I'm not seeing anything." He explains.

"You think it's the same person that got into Di Hipsodat?" I ask.

He shakes his head. "No but it's the same portal. They're working together and I'm certain they aren't earthling."

"Any idea what they want?"

"No idea. El wants me back in Di Hipsodat but I can't leave now because someone slipped through security. It's connected and I need to know how. I need your help, Dam-El. You need to find–"

'Damian if you can hear, I need you. I'm in the library.' I hear Camille's voice through telepathy. And she sounds breathless.

"Camille just talked to me, she said she needs me. I need to go. I'll be back as soon as I can." I interrupt what father was saying.

He waves me off when I expected him to give me another lecture about how I can't be with her.

I open the portal to the library and step inside. Getting off in the library, I notice the books scattered on the floor before hearing a strain sounds coming from the front. Running towards the sound, I stop when I see Camille holding her neck, her face is pink like she's been strangled and the smell of her blood makes me look below where I see the knife that plunged inside her.

I clap my hands and spread it wide to get a visual of who's doing it because I couldn't see anything but before my hand can reach the place Camille is standing, struggling to catch her breath the knife removes from her and she drops down with a thud. I rush towards her and knee in front of her.

"Camille. Camille, hey, can you hear me? Camille?!" She's unconscious and pale. I need to get her out of her.

Scoop her up in my arms, I rush to where I left the opened and jump into it. We arrive at father's study. "Father!"

He looks behind him and sees me carrying Camille, his eyes goes to the bruise on her neck before the blood dripping on his white rug. "Cami? What happened?" He drops the pad and mouse and comes to me. He takes her from me and carries her out of the study.

I follow behind him as he opens the first door he sees and drops her on the bed. He sits beside her and pulls her shirt up to inspect the wound. "What happened, Dam-El?"

"I don't know. She called for me and I went to her. She was in the library, standing while choking and getting stab. I didn't see anyone, whoever it was cloaked themselves."

"Cami is the connection," he mutters and stands up.

"What?"

He rubs his hand on his face and points to her. "Don't you see, the person went straight for her. They made the connection that she is El's granddaughter."

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because Ulrik is also getting treated from an attack no one saw happened."

"What does this have to do with Camille?"

"Are you that daft, Damian? Can't you see she's been poisoned? She isn't healing and her temperature is high. The person probably laced the dagger with something. I need to know what it." He tells me and goes back to her, he bends his head, getting a closer look of the wound.

Poisoned.

"Is she going to be okay?"

He sighs. "I don't know. Can you go grab her stuff in the library? And see what she was doing in there in the first place after curfew."

Don't bet on it father. I think to myself. I won't tell him if I find anything.

I portal back to the library and walk around the place, looking for her stuff. I see a desk with the lamp on and books spilling from it. Is Camille studying?

I move closer to the desk and notice the books on her table. Of course, why am I not surprised? She's been acting weird since we got back and this just confirms that there's something going on with her or why else would she be reading about dark spirit and unrested ghost.
