Chapter One
The small space was in complete darkness. Here and there, some insects crawled across the floor or the walls. The sink faucet was dripping, creating a sound that would be relaxing if it weren't for the place.
The door suddenly opens, letting in sunlight for a few seconds before it closes again.
The man who entered the bathroom approaches the sink and turns on the faucet. After washing his hands and splashing some water on his face, he notices how his hands start to shake violently. His right hand presses his palm with his thumb to calm himself.
Slowly, he lifts his head to see his face in the reflection of the mirror. His right hand touches his face as if to make sure he's still there and to understand what he's doing in that place.
James looks at himself in the mirror for a few seconds and walks over to the bathroom door to open it and leave. Some gusts of wind move the fallen leaves on the ground near where he stood. The blonde walks towards a railing.
In my darkest dreams, I see this town. Silent Hill. You promised to bring me back one day. But you never did. And now I'm here alone. In our special place. Waiting for you.
James leans on the railing, thinking about what happened. A few days ago, he had received a letter with the name Mary on it, his wife.
"This is ridiculous. It's totally impossible", James thinks. Mary had died of a terrible illness three years ago, which made him wonder why he was looking for her. It could be many things. Maybe it was for closure with his story with Mary, perhaps because he still had a slight hope she might be alive, or because he felt it was something he had to do.
Either way, he couldn't turn back, as if something were telling him he couldn't leave and had to reach the town that was once his special place with Mary. The man approaches his car to get the South Vale map, and his hand reaches for the car's back door to open it, searching for something. But as if someone prevented him, he pulls back and, after descending a few stairs, follows the forest path.
After a few minutes, he approaches a well with a red leaf floating in the water. James watches the paper until he feels a sharp pain in his head, and he places a hand on his forehead as if trying to relieve the pain.
"Aaagh! It's like... they're squeezing my brain," he mutters.
He continues walking until he reaches a gate, and crossing it leads him to a cemetery.
A woman with short brown hair, wearing a long-sleeve white t-shirt with a turtle neck and pants that were almost red, kneels in front of a tombstone. Her hand touches the stone to wipe off the dust. James approaches and places a hand on her arm to let her know he's there.
"Excuse me..." Sunderland says, startling the woman, who lets out a small surprised scream.
"Sorry, I was..."
"Don't worry, I didn't mean to scare you. I think I'm lost."
That confused the woman, who squints her eyes a bit, surprised.
"Yeah. I'm looking for Silent Hill. Do you know if it's this way?"
"Uh... Yes," the woman points to an area behind James. "It's hard to see with this fog, but there's only one road. You can't miss it."
"Thanks," he responds, taking a few steps in that direction, but she speaks again.
"But... if I were you, I wouldn't go there. There's something very... strange about that place. And I'm not just talking about the fog."
"Is it dangerous?"
"Maybe... I don't know how to explain it."
"I'll be careful."
The girl quickly says that she's not lying, so James reassures her by saying he doesn't think she is.
"It's just that... I don't care if it's dangerous or not. I'm going anyway," James clarifies.
"Why?"
"I'm looking for..."
The man falls silent, wondering if he should really tell a complete stranger why he came to this town when he didn't have a clear reason himself. What could he say anyway? He didn't have an answer, so he just said he was looking for someone very important to him.
"I am too," she confesses. "I'm looking for my mom... I mean, my mother. I haven't seen her in a long time," she explains while turning her back on the blonde to look around. "I thought my dad and brother were here, but I can't find them either..." She quickly remembers the man's presence and turns around. "Sorry, I don't want to bother you with my problems."
"No, no..." he says quickly. "I hope you find them."
"Yeah. You too."
After finishing the conversation, the man walks away and heads toward the direction she pointed to reach his destination.
In the town of Silent Hill, a person walked through the streets of South Valley. The vision of this person was obscured by the thick fog, but despite that, they found a body on the ground wearing a very worn brown jacket. Kneeling down, they pick up a piece of paper and read its contents.
This place is madness. There's death everywhere. Everywhere I go, those creatures are everywhere. If someone reads this, it's better to run away before it's too late.
The person sighs, revealing that it is a girl by her breath. She looks around, frustrated. If she could have left this damn town, she would have done so the moment she arrived, but she couldn't. When she tried, she realized that the place she came from now had only an endless cliff where there hadn't been one before.
She doesn't know how long she's been in Silent Hill, but what she does know is that she's been doing everything she can to find a way out, something that seems impossible.
The brown-eyed girl snaps out of her thoughts when she hears static from her radio, cursing and standing up with her gun in hand. What she quickly discovered was that radios or any communication devices didn't work, making it impossible to contact anyone outside for help. However, she was able to make good use of the first object because every time the device emitted static, it was an alert that the creatures were nearby, and the louder the sound, the closer they were.
Amber walked with her weapon raised, aiming at her surroundings until she heard a sound behind her. She turned around to find two creatures, which seemed like people if not for their lack of skin, only flesh, and several eyes on their bodies.
She shot one of them, killing it with four shots, but when she tried to shoot the other monster, she heard a click. The creature tried to hit her, but she dodged and hid behind a car. The woman pulled a machete from the sheath on her back and, crouching down, circled the vehicle until she was behind it. She raised her machete and repeatedly drove it into its head. Blood splattered on her face, but she didn't stop until the thing stopped moving.
Wilson removes the scarf covering her mouth and nose to wipe off the blood and the little sweat on her forehead. She then checks her gun, removes the magazine, and ejects the jammed bullet from the chamber. After replacing the magazine, she realizes everything is in order and puts the gun back in its holster.
At this point, she didn't know if it was a blessing or a curse to still be alive. She had seen horrible things before that gave her nightmares every time she closed her eyes, and with everything she had lived through in this town, she didn't even need to sleep to have them anymore. Her life had become a nightmare.
