The Greek Theatre, 2700 North Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA.

In 1882 Colonel Griffith J Griffith went to America from South Wales to seek his fortune in gold mining. He settled in LA and purchased Los Feliz Rancho.

He later donated the 3k acres of land to the city of LA. In his Will, he left the money to construct the Greek Theatre in Griffith Park.

The canyon site was chosen because of its good acoustics and the architect was Samuel Tilden Norton. 

It was officially opened on 25 September 1930 but used as a barracks in World War II. Since then it has been used for contemporary and classical productions and concerts and for graduation ceremonies for Thomas Starr King School and James Marshall High School.
