Secrets of the Lab

After the visit, Sans took Papyrus somewhere else. Somewhere that wasn't home. The space was small and cramped, the bridge that led there long since taken out, but Papyrus supposed that was what the bridge seed puzzle was for. The rook had a bench, flower, and what looked suspiciously like quiche under it. "Sans... What Is This?" Sans chuckle was strained as he sat down, inviting Papyrus to sit with him. Papyrus went to do as his brother asked. "Brother?" Papyrus tried again. "ask me, papyrus." Papyrus wasn't stupid. He knew what Sans was asking. "I Do Not Want To Discomfort You, Brother -" Papyrus started, but Sans shook his head quickly. "ask me. ask me about the lab, bro. it's... it's ok..." Papyrus swallowed thickly, knowing full well that this was sensitive ground he was about to trod on... and yet, Sans expression... "W-What Did The Doctor Want From Us? What... What Did He Do To Me..?" Papyrus found himself asking, and as he thought, Sans tensed up. Before he could make good on any sort of escape, though, he forcibly relaxed himself back into the bench, looked up at Papyrus with determination in his eyelights.

"those are good questions, bro... the short story was that he was trying to create an army... to overthrow the king. we were only two in... in what was probably gonna be hundreds. of course- that is all off the record, the official reason that's in the books was that he was trying to rebuild the monster population up- get ready for another war with the humans after the royal children's death. he... believed that asgore let certain monster species get eradicated on purpose in the first war. he believed he could do better, ruling the kingdom. so he made me... and you. the first test subjects, built to withstand human determination and c.o.r.e energy and everything in between. he created us to be capable generals, with 'superior intelligence and cunning'. the doctor had... tested on you a lot. especially when it came to... puzzles. traps for humans or... or monsters loyal to the king could get caught in for... punishment. he, uh, did start poking you with needles too, but... your... your stats weren't as... problematic as mine... so mostly, you just got physical training and mental training while he was trying to... fix me." Sans explained best he could.

It made Papyrus sick, knowing that his favorite hobby of crafting puzzles originated through... less than friendly means. But that didn't mean he had to use his prowess in such ways! "What... Happened To The Doctor? To Make It All Stop?" Papyrus asked. It was all he wanted to know. Sans had told enough, otherwise. "we... ran away, kinda. one of the doc's coworkers kinda... well, he messed with the c.o.r.e so the doc was distracted. and because of what he did, the doc didn't really, uh, lock us in properly. so i used that to get us out of there. there was... consequences, though. everyone that was there, at the c.o.r.e... they were erased from space-time. gone forever. we won't ever see the doctor or any of those scientists again." Sans looked at his brother, trying to gage his stress level. Papyrus seemed more... saddened, than anything. Papyrus took notice of Sans confused and anxious expression. "I Am Sad That Innocent Scientists Had To Get Caught Up In The Doctor's Evil Plot. BUT!" Sans jumped at the sudden increase in volume and Papyrus gave him an apologetic smile. "Thank You, For Telling Me, Brother."
