Rocks and windows

We return to our protagonist Mae as she throws rocks at windows.

"THAT'S for being a homophobe," Mae growled, chucking another rock at a window and breaking the glass.

"And THAT'S for being rude," she mumbled, throwing a bottle of 'homophobe away' at the classroom window, breaking the window and the bottle releasing a fowl sent into the area.

"Geez, I thought she could go at least a week.¨ October said pulling out and putting on a mask along with her friends.

"Definitely," Victor agreed, his nose in a book. "The last time someone set her off, she went on for like, an hour, at least."

Athena sniffed distastefully. "Why are we bad-mouthing Mae behind her back?"

"We are?" Victor blinked. He looked over the top of his book, his brows creased with concern. False concern. "Oh my. I guess I didn't realize. . . . This is going to get around school fast."

"Only because you'll tell people about it!" Athena cried, waving her hands above her head.

"They'll see it anyway," Victor tried to explain. "She broke three windows. THREE! Athena, you can't hush it up."

"Well, fine," she huffed. "If you're SO interested in making a fool of Mae-"

"SHE'S MAKING A FOOL OF HERSELF!" Victor bellowed. "IT'S NOT MY FAULT!"

"SILENCE!!!" Mrs. Humphrey screamed, and the whole class jumped. "That- that demon-"

"Mae is NOT a DEMON!" Victor hollered back. Everyone in the class, including Mrs. Humphrey, Athena, and October backed away. "SHE IS NOT A DEMON!"

Mrs. Humphrey's face turned red, then pale, then purple, then rippling shades of magenta and orange. "You do not speak to me that way, young man," she hissed, standing on tip-toes to attempt to make herself taller. It didn't work.

"DO NOT TELL ME WHAT TO DO!" he yelled picking her up and chucking her out the window.

Victor's friend Evan gasped.

A girl named Tracy, who was in the knitting club with Athena, spluttered, "You- you just- you just threw her, threw a teacher out the window?" Her face was pale and sweaty. "Oh, you are suspended for sure."

"Thanks," Victor grumbled. Then he turned around and took a seat in his chair, picked up his book, and continued reading as though nothing was wrong. As though he hadn't just tossed his new teacher out a window his friend had broken.

Throughout the crazy events, October's mouth had hung open in shock. Now they opened and closed it multiple times, trying to find the words for what had just happened. "Victor. Victor! You just threw a teacher out the window."

Victor sighed. "Tracy just said that."

Athena muttered something under her breath about not messing with Victor when he was angry, then pulled some knitting needles and yarn out of her bag and continued her project.

A bossy, snobbish girl named Laylani, who was a huge teacher's pet, snootily said, "You guys shouldn't be messing around in class. While Mrs. Humphrey reenters the building and SUSPENDS Mae and Victor for being obviously awful students, the rest of this class should be sitting in your seats facing forward. I want ABSOLUTE SILENCE, everyone. To your places."

There were a couple of seconds where no one moved. Laylani was the exact opposite of well-liked and popular. But after the death glare Laylani gave, everyone hustled to obey her.

One kid named Tyler raised his hand. Laylani nodded to him briskly, and he complained, "What about that can of nasty smelling stuff over here?"

Laylani wrinkled her nose. "Do I look like I care about that? No. Take your seats!" She glared again, and the look was so fierce it could've killed a grizzly bear.

"Oh God, that's awful!" Laylani squealed as the scent reached her. She waved a hand in front of her nose and whimpered.

"I would offer you a mask if you weren't a total jerk," Athena replied, handing some of the other kids' masks.

October snickered, covering their face with a mask once Athena passed one to them. It really was funny, watching Laylani squirm with discomfort, because of course, her self-appointed substitute teacher duties meant she couldn't cower under a desk like some of the other kids were, or exit the room to "use the bathroom."

Laylani's face contorted as the scent drifted toward her, blown-in her direction by the fans on the ceiling.

"Somebody go remove that foul smell!" She demanded, plugging her nose.

"Well, since you're the self-appointed teacher, maybe you should do it," Tracy said, snorting from behind a mask decorated with roses and sloths.

Laylani gaped at her.

"What?" Tracy asked innocently. "Never heard of pitching in?"

October burst out laughing, hugging their sides. The rest of the class followed suit, while Laylani tried to regain control of the class, shooting out death glares to no avail.

"I like this girl," Evan said between laughs.

A couple of kids gasped, and Tyler said, "Like like her? Eww, Evan, you're gross!"

Evan blushed and grumbled, "No, no! She's just, perfect! Roasting Laylani! Gotta give her some credit."

"Oooooh!" The students chorused. "Evan likes Tracy!!!"

"I do not!" Evan complained.

Victor laughed from behind his book.

Another rock flew through the broken window and nearly hit Laylani, there was a note on it that read:

Laylani,

Stop being such an idiot. People like laughing. Go get a mask so no one will have to breathe in your foul breath. Get a life. Also, I'm leaving.

-Mae

"WHAT! No, you are not!" Laylani screamed, running over to the open window and looking out to see that Mae had already runoff.

"Where do you think she went?" Taylor questioned.

"Probably to the forest," October replied.

Tracy leaned over and read the letter. "Dang, Mae's got neat handwriting. Mine's a mess."

"So is mine," October agreed.

"Wanna see mine?" Tracy asked.

October blinked, then nodded. "We can compare."

The two girls both scribbled their names on a corner of Tracy's notebook.

"Hmm," Tracy said. "I think mine is better."

"Huh," October replied. "I really disagree. Victor?"

Victor looked up from his book. "Wha-what did I miss?" He slipped a bookmark in and flipped shut the book. "Oh, you want me to decide whose handwriting is better. Well, that's easy." He daintily wrote his name in the corner, next to Tracy's, then said, "Mine," before disappearing behind his book again.

October and Tracy sighed and turned to watch the commotion in the room.

Now that Laylani was gone, there was no one really controlling the students, who were running around, pulling books off the shelves, and dumping buckets of pencils on the floor. It was a mess. A disaster. The room looked like a tornado had struck, or maybe a hurricane.

Then the door creaked open, and everyone froze. Pencils clattered to the floor as the students looked to the door, paralyzed with fear. It was the principal. Mr. Bagguhui. And trailing behind him was his daughter, Laylani.
