A Diamond in the Rough

Sans went for a walk that night after putting Papyrus to bed for the night. He knew he wouldn't be able to sleep, he could barely keep himself together for Papyrus sake during dinner. Perhaps he could check out the local human customs and see how different a human city was from a monster city. The human certainly reacted the same way monsters did as he walked down the street, scattering like chickens if a fox was in the coop. He was the fox. Some humans did try to fight against him, whether they were there for the Don's show of power or not, he didn’t know, but he wasn't just going to take it either. A powerful punch or a knee to the stomach was usually enough. He refused to lower himself to the Don's standards while he had control. He WASN'T a bad guy. He didn't WANT to kill anybody. Sans heaved a sigh and took a gander at a small diner. It was a small quaint little place with a jazz playing in the background. It was relaxing, Sans liked it, snapping along to the tune. Most of the humans inside paid and left immediately, but Sans was used to this. "a burg and some ketchup, please." Sans asked the shocked and afraid waitress at the counter before taking up an empty booth.

Sans had never seen a movie before, so the theater had been next on his to do list. To his surprise, the waitress had stayed and even served him, though the poor human was shaking like a leaf. Nothing he said would have ever been able to comfort her so he just kept to his manners. The human working at the ticket booth went into hiding so Sans just put down an estimated amount of gold to pay and invited himself in. The movie certainly was something. He learned that humans didn't have much of a filter as far as drugs, alcohol, violence, and nudity. You'd never catch a monster child watching something like this. The movie itself was both informative and disturbing to him. On one hand, he learned a bit more about a humans daily life and how they reproduce, on the other hand they were severely racist to other humans of different color and had him snarling and bristling. Most of the humans around him left.

After that Sans found himself wandering to a bar. He had done it all the time in Shade City. Undyne was probably his only friend, though it DEFINITELY hadn't started out that way. A person is always more honest when drunk though, and apparently he'd told enough to have the fish lady pitying him. He didn't need the pity and told Undyne as such and eventually it went from pity to friendship. Sans chose a seat in the back, the humans didn't seem to care that Sans was there. He was simply served a drink and left to his devices. It was kinda relieving. These humans were to out of it to care, he guessed. Or maybe they were like him, peged as the bad guy and were drinking away their pain as well? What did it matter to him, they weren't running and it was a relief. He popped open the bottle of human alcohol and sniffed it wearily. It smelled terrible, but their have been many monster drinks that smelled horrible, but tasted great. So Sans took a swig. It... was a bad idea. His 'throat' burned from the alcohol and he damn near coughed it up. He groaned more than ready to leave before the stage suddenly lit up and Sans saw... her..

As you started to sing for the drunken crowd, you couldn't help up feel a shiver rush down your back. Something was watching you, something dangerous. You didn't know what or who, but you felt exposed to them. To their will. You could hardly see the crowd through the glaring light of the stage, you couldn't see who it was. You couldn't afford to stop and run either. You needed the money if you were going to pay that fee. You didn't want what happened to that man to happen to you, so you sang on, hoping to whatever god was out there that it wasn't actually threatening. That it would leave you alone and you'd leave it alone. The last thing you wanted was- never mind that thought. You finished the first song for the night and launched into the second. Fear pulsed through you as you went through each song, your pulse ticked off the seconds that remained before you could leave, it was agonizing. Finally, your performance ended. "Thanks for listening to my caterwaling you call singing, good night!" You smiled waved and exited the stage. Thank goodness it was over..

"stars, she sounds like an angel.." Sans soul tugged desperately towards the female, wanting him to go after her, but he knew better than that. Not after what she saw, not while he was dangerous to her and the Don was a threat. No. He couldn't go after her. Sans put a gold coin on the table and reluctantly took his leave, half hoping she'd get on the stage and sing again. He knew it wouldn't happen though. She was done. Funny, this was the calmest he'd felt all day and most of the night. "heh." He left the bar and back into the busy streets of Ebbot City. He was slightly less bothered by the terrified civilians and aggressive humans. Just seeing her, slightly nervous but not afraid, had been what he needed. She was actually very good at hiding her fear. If his senses weren't increased by the ferality, he probably wouldn't have noticed at all. He knew why too. It was her subconscious reaction to him watching her preform. If he kept coming to her shows, he would be, she'd get used to it, the fear would fade. That's all he wanted from his diamond in the rough.
