To kaorulewis

for being in love with Gaara and Hotaru's story

*********************************************************************
Shikamaru blinked at the beam of lights. Behind the studio of the runway, were rims of neon colors and disco light machines--the kind of event you might accidently think of as a nightclub party. But this was no lazy amusement.

The banner outside the arena says it all. Konoha Runway Show 2013

In that case, he knew how pretty troublesome things are now but he guessed this was Tsunade's way of proclaiming peace. In fact the Nations were all invited.

He gave off a breathtaking exhale. He was pretty nervous though. He was Leaf's head supervisor, Chunnin exams' proctor, Tsunade's adviser--failure was no option. The question is, when is the next time Madara intends to visit? All of them had gotten to their strangling points ever since the stranger has arrived--the man who claims to be the begotten Uchiha, is friends with his best friend, Ino. Terrific.

He watched Ino from meters away, a few chuunin women placing her makeup. Yes, she has bloomed from a bud to a kosmo. "Purple. You don't know me very well if you don't give me something purple." Shikamaru stared at her. Every strand of her hair waved at the wind, her eyelashes placing deep shadows below her lids. She was holding her phone, probably texting some other boys. And he wouldn't be surprised...

...Ino had a lot of suitors.
Dozen of them, or maybe even more.

Something ticked irritatingly at his ear, a sound of television cracking.
"Keep your head in the misson, Nara." Neji said in a dictatorial voice. "I see you're becoming a bit more.. Observant. Do that and you'll lose track of people who are watching you nearby."

Shikamaru twisted the control on his ear. Neji was deeply affected of what troubles had gotten into Hinata, and so he'd sworn to avenge her for the masked man's one simple dismeanor:for not keeping his mouth shut. There was one thing Neji didn't know though--while they were busy hunting a villain in the crowd--Shikamaru was tasked to watch over Ino. It was an unofficial order Tsunade sent that he couldn't decline. Then he considered--other nations have lost many kunoichis in a row, he couldn't risk it.

"No sign of him."

Shikamaru lied. When the Leaf staffs have left, there was a shadow that appeared inside the studio--it looked like a vortex that leads to an outer space. He was carrying a boquet of flowers.

Ino smiled deliberately. She stood up to welcome Madara, even dressed in a pink bathrobe. Ino loved surprises.

"Thought you'd never make it."

"I wouldn't miss it for the world." Obito smiled, revealing his set of white teeth. "Have I forgotten to mention how beautiful you looked in that dress?" Ino laughed as she held the flowers in her hands, tucking her hair behind her ear. "You'd make a beautiful bride one day."

Shikamaru watched the whole scenery. He was willing to break when he saw everything, as if his whole world had been living a lie.

"What are you doing here?? You weren't supposed to come, remember?" Ino asked enthusiastically. Shikamaru leaned closer from the doorway to listen.

"I saw the invitation." Madara said holding out a piece of envelope. "You can't hide this from me love, I know every corner and secrets in this village."

Ino sighed in dominance. The sound of happiness in her voice couldn't contain the euphoria. "Just--promise me you won't make a scene tonight. For me."

Obito smirked. He caressed the bangs of her hair, tried to look at her face without it, and saw how different she looked. "I'll see what I can do." He was gone.

"Reports?" Neji said over the phone.

Shikamaru's heart ached. Ino was meeting Obito. It wasn't anger he felt--betrayal. She knew everyone in the world is desperately searching for him and yet, she would rather keep him under her wing!! He waited, for his tongue to finally speak out, but he couldn't. He saw the color of blue in her eyes. He saw how the flowers mattered to her.

He gave up. He looked at the other way and listened to his friends' bunkum whatever they were saying. Terrific.

"Negative," TenTen reported. She was with Hinata. "Face it. Sasuke isn't coming. If he is, I'll be the one to kill him."

"Calm down your tits, we don't want to make a scene." Said Kiba. He was outside the arena, since pets aren't allowed. He was chewing a bubble gum as usual.

"Would you like me to tear yours apart?" Neji reprimanded. He was never the calm type.

"This is Rock Lee. Gaara has now arrived." On the other hand, Lee was at the entrance doors. He was greeting the newly arrived visitors with his sparkly-tooth grin.

"He's with Kankuro and Temari. Any lead, anyone?"

Shikamaru snapped the phone shut. He had already gotten inside the backdoors, a stoic expression in his face. He thought of looking at himself in the mirror, so he tried to get into the other room. When the door had been halfway opened, it was Ino who was inside.

Shit. He leaned against the wall and tried to breathe clearly.

He didn't know why he was here even. But, he needed answers. He wanted to figure out what was she doing with Madara in the first place. The thought merely sickens him. And maybe that's why he was so frustrated. How short did it take for her to easily build that friendship she's had with Obito that it's taken for him too long

"Kiba, could you put this on for a minute?" Ino asked. Her words hang in the air, her hand holding tight at the clip.

Shikamaru first met Ino when they were introduced to themselves from their respective clans. He didn't really get what his father meant when he was discussing marriage proposal with Yamanaka Inoichi, since he was told by his mother to tag along and be great friends with the angel blonde. Since then, neither showed interest at each other until they were reunited as a fraction for Asuma; not knowing what kind of fate their parents have put to them... They became best friends and grew closer ever since Sasuke has disappeared. She cried to him that night, during the Raven's birthday--and even had a sleepover to feast over somewhat Sasuke's second anniversary of passage. It was actually the first time he has ever shared a bed with a woman--a girl, despite his allergic digression among feminism.

Shikamaru did the honor by clipping the golden comb in her hair with a purple kosmo in it. Ino was shocked upon seeing his reflection in the mirror, and for once he hasn't seen his best friend tint red as a tomato as Hinata.

"Did you feed already?" He asked. Suddenly a memory popped into his head again: her first days of becoming an impure.

Does it mean that I'm dead meaning I never get to have kids?

How come I don't burn constantly?

I just think that this is the new version of me, and I kinda like it.

Ino turned, grieve-stricken. She raised her hands as if to ward off her next words. "Shika... Before you say anything, I wanted to apologize to you."

Her words made his heart rattle in his chest as if he'd swallowed a mouth of caffeine.

"For everything," she gestured her hands and he noticed she was still wearing Asuma's present, a pair of earrings. She hasn't worn it for such time. "You kept on making me feel that I couldn't have what I wanted from you, and I kept pushing at you and pushing at you and not listening to anyone else at all. I just wanted you and I didn't want care what anyone else had to say about it. Not even Temari."

His mouth suddenly went dry, but before she could say anything, the music started playing. Ino and Shikamaru both stared at the shut curtains. It's almost time; and not that it matters now, he could feel the others calling up for him. "Ino,"

"No. Let me finish." She was staring down at the floor as if they held the secrets of the universe. "Shika--I have to say it now, or I won't say it." Her words tumbled out in a rush: "I thought I'd lost my best friend. And not only my best friend, but the rookies. I was so selfish. I thought I'd lost everything in the world but you. I--I was crazy in loss and I took it out on others and I'm sorry. I'm sorry for blaming you."

She raised her eyes at him and he was suddenly strangely reminded of being four years old at the beach, crying when the wind came up and blew his sandcastle he had made. His father has told her he could make another one if he liked, but it hadn't stopped him weeping because what he had thought was permanent was not permanent after all, but only made out of sand that vanished at the touch of wind or water. "I'm done. Trying to get you. I can't do it anymore. I'm sorry it's taken me this long to figure it out, but I promise... I'm done making a fool of myself."

She spoke with so much finality that Shikamaru felt it like a door slamming in his face.

"I want it to be okay. So here's what's gonna happen: I'm gonna walk out in that stage, dressed up in a sexy purple lingerie, while you and the others drool over my flawlessly fair skin.. And you're gonna have to look away for a moment, but you're gonna laugh a little anyway--Shikamaru chuckles--and then you'll tell me a funny love story about the clouds, but neither of us are gonna say anything that crosses the line because, I'm tired of being in love with you." She said, looking at him with a hopeful expectation that he would be pleased, which made him want to scream that something was pricking his heart into pieces and he couldn't understand why. "That's what you wanted right?"

It took him a long time to answer, and when he did, his own voice sounded like an echo, coming from very far away. "Yeah," he said, and he heard the rush of waves in his ears. "That's what I wanted."

SAVE ME

Hotaru

I stare numbly at the ceiling as if it could magically be the solution to my problem. I am covered in sheets, raising the blanket to my naked chest. My thighs are pulsating, my orgasm hurts and time is catching up to me.

I'm no longer immortal.

I'll age, and die.

"Stop that." Gaara says with his eyes closed. "Stop what?" I ask, staring at him right in the bed. His chest is exposed, and he looks just as tired as I am. "The worrying." I knit my brows. "But your eyes are closed." I say, which was obvious. "You think I still have to open my eyes to know what you're thinking?"

I brace myself to him as he wraps his arms around me. This feeling--this heavy-hearted, joyful feeling that comes along with it whenever I spend some time with him... It's what I've always wanted a hundred years ago. I've always wanted a relationship so I could never look at my back and realize I am the only miserable person left on the universe that will not grow old, yet bounded with the curse of being alone.

I woke up with the sound of the door slamming and I have fallen asleep in Kisame's shoulder. Obito has gotten back from the world of who-knows-where and doesn't look unhappy today. "Rise and shine, people. We've got an appointment." He threw his cloakat Wakana and caught it clumsily. "We're going to visit your dad."

"And how do I know you're not lying??" She asked in justice.

"Use your Mangekyo Sharingan at me, and look me in the eye and tell me I am."

Rin rolled her eyes. "I'd rather not,"

The rest of the Akatsuki just swell in the dark shadows. If we don't sleep we eat, grabbing what we can find from the fridge.. And if not, Rin would buy groceries to fatten our empty stomach. Others would go out and pretend as if they were off to a mission, to get a view from the outside world and breathe the air in their lungs.

Itachi's brother, has taken the lifetime of drinking and doing usually bad habitual practices to get himself in trouble. Probably wanting to doze himself off before the time comes he gets back into the Leaf village knowingly his own child doesn't recognize him.

Chiruka has been getting out of the hideout really often, either to get attention or to come back with fresh packs of bloodbags. Hoping Rin and I would feast with her, that we would celebrate yet another day of surviving in this hellhole.

"I'm not going to some runway fashion freak where in I don't get to hit the red carpet." She asks, as she came back the house throwing a bag full of bloodbags into the table. Frankly Kabuto entrusts her more when it comes to leaving the house. "Is my mother gonna be there? Because she's the last person I ever want to see,"

"The werewolf will be there," Obito adds and Chiruka looks at him sullen. "Like I said, the world will be watching." For a moment I fall silent, emphasizing his words clearly.

He turns to me as if reading my mind. "And you, pregnant fairy, are coming."

Who knew something can brace me with such hope for my life?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once Hotaru was the only person they were waiting, she sighed softly before she closed the door behind her. It seems that Kabuto is in the laboratory. Good. It's because this time, time is precious and she's determined not to waste that limited opportunity to get out of here and hopefully save her child and go to Gaara. She rushed into Kisame's room--it's one of the few areas in the house that are filled with weapons. As she walked there, she grabbed his gray sidebag that he must have left when he went out for a drink.
Then she opened the cabinets, drawers, searching for possible sharp objects. She quickly got his kunai, paperbombs and even special shurikens. After that she searched for any material that could fit as a container where she would collect fairydust. And lastly, she got every mobile phone or tiny devices for recording and conncetion purposes. For now, she'll rely on the curse, because in order to gain her strength she must first consume an amount of fairydust. The child she's carrying seems to be utilizing all her chakra.
She then spent minutes packing, arranging, enhancing and sharpening everything before changing her outfit that she'll be able to look human and presentable in front of Gaara, not the fairy who tried to seduce him. She wore a sequined, gold dress that showed her cleavage and matching heels. She wore her sidebag as she looked into the mirror.
A pair of big, beady blue eyes stared back at her, just behind her back. Hotaru turned to calm a hand to her throbbing heart. It's Kisame!! "God, I thought you were a zombie."
Kisame held the Samehada over his shoulder with a "huh" expression. "And I thought you were a chick." He said as he stared at her, full body, which made Hotaru feel a little unpleasant. "So you're finally leaving, eh? Took you long enough to escape."
"I was about to leave you a note,"
"Fine. But if Kabuto finds out, I'm shredding you for dinner."
"He already knows, dumbass. It's just a matter of time whether he'll figure it out if I'm running away."
Kisame chuckles. "What I do know is that he's watching every move you make, and he's just waiting for the perfect time to get rid of you with his snakes and crocodiles. Or, he'll even have to order me to do it myself."
Hotaru felt quite defensive. "I'm not stupid. I won't outrun him if I don't have any plans, because you see--I've been running away my whole life. Kabuto is just a simple obstacle I'll simply turn into a snail once I get my magic back." She threatened menacingly as she reached towards the door, her wings all gone and faded from the evening morning light.
"Oh, and don't worry about you. Soon as I did what I had to do, I'll finally be able to cast a spell on you so you won't look like a smurf egomaniac for once." Then she slammed the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The arena's northern lights were getting brighter as the sun goes down, the evening bell now tolling in precisely Seven O'clock. The Nations seemed to be highly diverted with the energy and tone of the music, bobbing their heads upwards and downwards along its beat. The boys have spread all over the place like a dissolved ink, monitoring some of the talkative people while Tsunade was delivering her speech. Shizune was next to her, holding a clipboard.

The Kages didn't seem to be in doldrums at all, all except for the Tsukikage of course, who is a very old man and the kind of respected person who would want to avoid the new era of westernization. Mei Terumi was more beautiful in pictures, in fact she may have looked younger in stories and what they said of her relevance with Chiruka was superiorly incontestable. She kept her smirk on as the show progresses with those pair of glossy pink lips. The Raikage is a very resolute and giant man who looked more of a wrestling champion, while Gaara is Gaara--the handsome elite young man who remained inaudible as possible. They all congratulated Naruto and Sakura for the baby and that they have their blessing.

If only they knew, Sakura thought, tightening her headband. Later on Naruto was whispering something in her ear, something that made the pinkette laugh, and after that he kisses her cheek.

"Drink this quickly," Obito said giving the two of them tiny bottles of a liquor with a horrid smell. He also had one too, and Rin immediately rejected the potion after inhaling it. "It smells like poison!" She said, while Hotaru was busy scanning the crowd from outside. "How do we know if this isn't a trap??"

Obito sighed in pity. "Kid, I'd love to shove that nasty object in your mouth, but if your death is what satisfies me, I would have done it first with your father." He said as he adjusted the tie over his neck. "Believe me, it's a Chakra-masking elixir. We're trying to avoid attention in case you've noticed, we're only here to attend." Obito said, eyeing Hotaru dubiously that the fairy-nin didn't even hear whatever they were compensating about because she was too nervous in finding Gaara.

"They're here," Kiba said sniffing his sorroundings, as if the air was somehow filled with toxic poison. "Madara."

"Who are they?"TenTen whispered over the microphone.

Kiba held the device into his ear. "Impures." He said casually, trying to ignore the Raikage's suspicion upon him. "There's two of them. The other one was that kid Sakura brought here a couple of weeks ago."

"Kakashi's daughter is here??"

Kakashi got out from the plaza really quick. Kami, the sight of watermellons and marshmallows were everywhere. First, there were models in their midst twenties strutting along in spectacular lingeries; (still, they were half naked) and that the other visitors were throwing themselves at him. He didn't mean them, the Kages in their old age--but the women from the other Hidden Villages whose top could almost stretch wide until their orgasm!! They were using their abdominable boobs in form of their cleavage in order to lure him into some trap!! This is unacceptable!

To be outrighteous, he hasn't experienced the deja vú for such time. During Team Seven days, whenever there comes a time where in they'd cross from village to small neighborhoods, he'd usually disregard whatever kind of woman which smiles at him on purpose for the sake of his three disobedient and utterly unmanageable munchkins. Because aside from the fact that he has killed the first woman she loved and hasn't kept his promise to a dead friend, he had this other side only Tenzo knew...

Hanging around late in bars and disco clubs, getting laid with women he'd barely known... That is, until he would later fall in love again and finally jump into a serious relationship.

His thoughts snapped when he heard a crisp somewhere in the middle of the copse. The white-haired Hatake swiveled his neck upon the mysterious sound, trying to sense the Chakra. He would've known if it were an animal.

Wind blew again and this time it teleported into his back, speed quick as a lightning bolt. An enemy. He immediately graped for the Kunai he hid inside his pocketsleeves and held it onward. "Show yourself!" He said, and there was nothing in there.

Someone was making soft noises, and Kakashi couldn't believe what he just saw when he did. A girl, about the age of a young genin was crying over the grove.

At first Kakashi didn't notice she was human, because she had hair white as the constellations and her skin tone was over the level of paleness, almost as if she wore a makeup like Sai. "Help me," she said, and Kakashi felt as if he were struck in his own illusion when he saw the girl. His heart hammered, because there was a pyschologically huge difference between the state of falling in love and love at first sight.

"Hey kid," he said as he kneeled in front of her. "It's the middle of the night. What are you doing up in this hour? And why are you outside?"

"My name is Miyako and I'm looking for my father." Wakana said. "His name is Tobi. He's supposed to meet me in a puppet show to buy me cotton candy but I never showed up."

Kakashi raised his brows. "What about your mother?"

The girl shook her head. A small portion of dark ink was revealed after she waved her hair, just below the part of her neck. Kakashi sighed. Dear Lord, what did I ever do to deserve this? First Sakura, then this odd-looking uncustomary girl. Kakashi wasn't so sure whether to trust this child or not, because who knows? She could be a serial killer hired by the other countries hiding in a cute pouty face and white wig.

"Can you walk?" Kakashi asked. The little girl shot him a hideous look, making him lose his stand on the ground. Wakana stood up, as if she was done with her acting. Now for the main event... Kakashi thought; he still hasn't given up on his theory that this girl could be a murderer.

"We'll search for your dad inside the show." Kakashi said as he dug his green book deeper in his pocket, in case if it would fall off. But the girl wasn't focusing on what he'd said, she doesn't seem to be listening on any words that make sense at all!! All he knows was that she has a height of 4'7 or she could be smaller... And that she was only staring at his giant palm.

"Can I hold your hand?"

TenTen lowered her Kunai as she panted, hard. She's heard about the impure which she meticulously didn't trust so she ran off outside, slowly peeking from the elder Nara tree. She really thought for a second there some little child would not hesitate to kill its own blood. "It's all taken care of now," she whispered over the microphone. When she walked, she realized her feet were swelling over the damn heels so she stopped, discarded them and carried them, a look of relief in her face. "I think it's time we give it a rest."

The people were all applauding for the next round. The pinapple-head felt a change of atmosphere. He opened his eyes and saw the golden-eyed girl, his grimace deepening. "Not yet."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I enter the plaza feeling empty and stupid. There are lights everywhere I go, and I'd even lost my way if it weren't for my vampric scent juju. These people smell alchohol and champagne, and as far as I can remember Gaara is resistant in drinking. He could mash the whole city of Suna with his bare hands but he'd never take a sip.
*P L A Y S O N G* (Song inspired from Divergent)
I come in the plaza, alone, ignoring Obito's bloodcurling words. There are weapons I've slid beneathe my thigh sheathes so I could easily pull them out for a critical death. Humans die easily, don't they? Those were the exact, no, opposite words of what Temari has said to me when I was back in the Sand's prison. Fairies don't die awfully, don't they? I take a step forward trying to prospect over the party.
"Don't. You. Ever. Take. a Drink." Gaara says, shelving the bottled wine into a wooden cabinet. It's some sort of an offering the villagers have given him. I pout. Killjoy! "It's just a stupid drink," I scorn truthfully. He didn't seem to like it because he gave off a bitter sound. "Why not give it a try?"
Gaara closed his eyes and sighed. Opened them silently, as if a molecule would change. I forgot how cerulean his eyes get. "Come here," he says. I stand from the table and walk closely. He grabs two crystal glasses and pour them with icecold water. "Let's say you're a kunoichi who's also a wanderer. One night you come into a bar and a stranger offers to buy you a drink." The glasses became full. "Would you take that as a yes?"
"Yes,"
"And what if you suddenly turn and didn't realize that he could have put something in your drink?"
"Oh wait, are we still talking about the stranger?? I thought the culprit was you."
Gaara wanted to facepalm. "Consuming any form of alchohol is weakness. You would exchange a drink all for some handsome little face."
A waitress holds a tray full of champagne glasses offering it to the Raikage. The Raikage considered, took it as he sniffed the ingredients.
"I'd do it if it were you." I smirk at him, my hands clawing at the tip of his shirt.
"Hotaru.."
I dig into his stomach, his 6-pack and I wonder why I couldn't die upon placing my hands on heaven. A pit of sand slowly sticked through my fingers. God he's so hot. "Come on, you just got home. And you're tired. What do you want to do tonight?"
Gaara closes his eyes. "My sister is here."
"What's the big deal?" I ask softly, still wiping the sweat in his forehead. "She has a boyfriend, and you have your own girlfriend. Fair enough." I brush his hair away from his face as I try to reread the words which were carved into his right forehead. I wonder if he'd been the one to do it himself."We aren't doing this." He declared with an "end-of-story" look, putting my hands back together so I'd simply shut up. "Until you're ready..."
"You can't come in any further,"
The boy with incredibly long hair was blocking my way towards the seats. I try to pass through but he must have copied my movements so in the end we're like two little girls playing like a bunch of idiots. Oh come on, seriously???
"Listen, I have no time for this." If attainable I would have used my cleavage as some sort of bait, but somehow he looked like a really nice guy, and that I'd like to keep my plans straight ahead. "I'm here for someone."
I pinpoint my toes to get a glimpse of that red hair, but this guy just won't let me in. I stare at him in frustration until someone finally approaches. "There's been a bit of problem backstage. I'll take care of this, Neji." Neji. So that's his name. At first Neji hesitates but then the boy whispered something that made him quieted, something that made his mouth snap shut, looks at me from head to toe--and left. I look at the boy as if I could literally kiss him.
"Arigatou."
The boy scratches his head, and immediately my eyes widened to this stupendous consternation. "I recognize you," I whisper, "you're the boy who got Temari knocked up."
Shikamaru sighs as if to just ride with the punchline. Shikamaru was the boy who came to visit Temari at the hospital weeks ago not only she had been pregnant, but it was a miscarriage. I hear him asking a picture of the child even as a scan but Temari couldn't give him any.
And Gaara never forgave him for that. So what does he want??
"I know why you're here, and I'm here to help."
