Chapter 5: The Power of Three

Naruto felt his cheeks burn as he saw his sensei, Kurenai Yuhi. She had long, black hair with ruby colored eyes with red lipstick adorning her lips with a single red sleeve on her right arm with bandages that was almost like a dress around her curvy figure and bandages from her forearm and down.

He didn't understand. Why was he suddenly increasing his breathing? What was this nervousness in his chest? The weight on his chest? What was it. . .?

"Y-yes?" He stuttered out, immediately cursing himself. He didn't want to be like that Hyuga.

"I'm glad that you trusted in my abilities to find you." She said, her eyes narrowed at the grey haired boy, causing Naruto to glare at Sasuke, who only pointed at Sakura, who was looking down at the ground, obviously embarrassed.

"You could say it was, um, a first test to many." He didn't want to sound rude to her. She was like an angel in his eyes, and she was the most beautiful person in the village in her eyes.

Was he developing a little crush? He hoped not.  Danzo had taught him that feelings such as love and caring for someone would do nothing but hold him back. He steeled his nerves as Kurenai spoke.

"Well, since we're all here, sit down, we're going to have to introduce ourselves." Everyone sat down, Sasuke on one side of Kurenai, Sakura on the other, and Naruto in front, the farthest away from everyone.

"Naruto, why don't you come closer?" Kurenai suggested. "I want you to be able to hear us all." Naruto shook his head.

"I'd rather sit here. The grass is softer." Another lie, but oh well. Kurenai pursed her lips and sighed.

"Fine, I'll go first. My name is Kurenai Yuhi, I like romance novels, hanging out with my friends, and learning new things. I dislike men who look down on women and most meat. My hobbies include practicing genjutsu and trying to make new combinations of vegetable soup. My dream, well, my dream is to help all of you become successful ninja!" She said, smiling, showing off her pearly white teeth, making Naruto look away.

He would not fall for her. She was older than him, an adult. It would never work out, she would never even consider him in her top 100 potential guys to date list, it would be pointless to get latched onto these feelings.

Danzo was right, these emotions will only distract him.

"How about you go, Sakura?" Sakura nodded.

"I'm Sakura Haruno, I like a certain boy," She glanced at Sasuke, which caused said Uchiha to groan. "And hanging out with my friend Ino. I dislike perverts and arrogant people. My hobbies include gathering flowers and reading books. My dream, is to marry a certain boy." She blushed a deep red, blood slowly coming out of her nose as she tried her hardest not to look at Sasuke.

"Okay," Kurenai said, not liking the fact that Sakura had a baseless dream in the Shinobi and Kunoichi world. "What about you, Sasuke?" Sasuke hned, something he did often that seemed to irk every non-Uchiha in the area.

"My name is Sasuke Uchiha, I like tomatoes and hanging out with my friend, Naruto. I dislike how girls chase me around the village all the time and how Itachi-nii pokes my forehead a lot. My hobbies include training and learning new jutsu from Shisui. My dream is to become a great clan leader of the Uchiha!" Kurenai nodded.

"An admirable dream. I hope you reach it one day." Sasuke nodded his thanks before all eyes shifted to Naruto. "Now, you."

"My name is Naruto Hatake. I don't really like a lot of things, and I don't really dislike a lot of things. My hobby is training. My dream?" He paused, realizing that he had never had goal in life. Sure, he was twelve, but in the eyes of the village, he was an adult.

"Do you have a dream, a goal? Anything, Naruto?" Kurenai asked softly, looking as they boy struggled to find something, the confused look in her eyes making her feel sorry for the boy. Naruto heard the pity in her voice, and scowled under his mask.

"My dream, is to be a useful weapon to the village." Kurenai visibly frowned. Weapon? She'll have to break him out of that sooner or later.

"Interesting. Well, I look forward to working with all of you, that is, if you pass my test." Sasuke and Sakura's eyes widened in shock, but Naruto had been expecting this.

"Whatever your test is, we'll complete it!" Sasuke said in a determined voice. Sakura saw her idol say that and immediately agreed.

"Y-yeah!" Their eyes shifted to Naruto, who stood up.

"Whatever, lets get this over with already." He said. "What's your test?" Kurenai smirked. The boy was finally showing some emotion, his eagerness to become a full-fledged Genin impressed her.

"Fine. I was going to wait til tomorrow, but oh well. It'll be you guys against me. Whoever takes these ribbons off my waist," She held up two red ribbons and tied them to her waist. "Passes."

"What?" Sasuke proclaimed.

"That's unfair! What if one of us doesn't get one?" Sakura said, her eyes wide, her emerald colored eyes shining with worry. Kurenai smirked.

"Then you will be dropped from the Ninja Program as a whole." Naruto narrowed his eyes at the woman.

"What's your game?" Kurenai smirked. This kid was smart.

"No game, just try it. I doubt you'll be able to touch me, let alone steal a ribbon." Kurenai looked at her three students. "GO!" The two students disappeared in an instant, leaving only Naruto facing the Jonin.

"Oh, a challenger already? Oh well, let's get this party started then, shall we?" Naruto shrugged as he charged her, his newly obtained chakra blade sparking with lightning as he swung it, a the blade extending as lightning shot towards Kurenai, who's eyes widened.

'What? A Chunin shouldn't know elemental manipulation yet! Let alone a genin!' Kurenai thought as she dodged the lightning strike, only to duck as Naruto threw two shuriken at her, not seeing the smirk on his face as he was holding two wires. He yanked back, causing the shuriken to turn around, aiming for Kurenai's back.

Her eyes shot open as the shuriken hit her in the back, only to disappear in a puff of smoke, revealing a log.

"Replacement." Naruto murmured before he turned around quickly, cutting into Kurenai who was shocked that he had seen her, before she also turned into a puff of smoke.

"How did you know that wasn't the real me?" Kurenai asked, standing in the same place she was in the beginning.

"The answer's simple really," Naruto explained, a dangerous glint in his eyes. "I didn't."

"So you're taking this test seriously?" A nod was her response as she let a smile come across her face. "Good." She charged him, a kunai in hand as she engaged him in a quick battle with sword vs. kunai, and the sword was slowly losing.

"I'll take the confidence out of your stride, don't worry!" Kurenai said as Naruto quickly dodged another swipe from her kunai.

"You and what army?" A voice whispered from behind her, and she noticed she had been fighting a Shadow Clone. She turned around and saw ten Naruto's, each having a blade in hand.

"Oh?" She spoke, raising an eyebrow as she saw the grey haired boys charge her all at once. She engaged them in taijutsu, guarding the ribbons feverishly as she dispelled the clones one after the other.

Soon, there was only one left, the real Naruto breathing heavily as sweat dripped down his forehead.

"You know," Kurenai said, her arms wrapping around the boy's torso from behind, her breath on his ear as she whispered seductively in her ear. "You're pretty cute. You're only twelve, that's a seven year difference between us. I want you, Naruto." He felt her bite his ear and he expelled a mass of chakra, effectively dispelling the genjutsu, leaving a smirking Kurenai in front of him.

"Well I'm glad you know how to dispel genjutsu. Tell me, what'd ya see? It's supposed to show you you're greatest desire." Naruto's blush intensified as he looked at Kurenai.

"You'll have to kill me to find out." He finally got out before making a few hand seals. "But that'll never happen, Sasuke, fireball now!" A large fireball came from one of the many trees as it came towards Kurenai, and Naruto quickly fired off a weak air jutsu, intensifying the flames as Kurenai rose an eyebrow.

"Impressive, two elemental jutsu? Interesting." She made her own hand seals as she got out a wall of water, watching as steam rose from the now put out fire. The steam was so thick, she couldn't see, but, she wasn't a Jonin for nothing.  She closed her eyes, awaiting for any sound to hear.

She heard a single footstep to her left and she whirled that way, only to feel the ribbons at her waist slip away and she sighed.

"Went too easy on them, ugh." She said in a small, disappointed tone and the steam slowly dissipated, revealing a ribbon in Sasuke's and Sakura's hands. She clapped her hands once, getting the attention of the Genin.

"Okay, Sakura, Sasuke, you pass. Naruto, you'll be dropped from the Shinobi Program." Naruto shrugged.

"I have other places I can go. No biggie."

"No, wait, Naruto!" Sakura shouted as she jumped on top of the grey haired boy, getting an annoyed groan in response. "You can have mine! You did most of the work, and only made me get the ribbon because of the steam you and Sasuke made! Here!" She put the ribbon on the boy's head and dropped down.

"What?" He asked in a bewildered tone. "But, I, I didn't grab it. You and Sasuke did, the ribbon's yours." Sakura shook her head.

"No, I'm just a civilian anyway. Sasuke-kun's from the Uchiha Clan, and you're the Copy Ninja's son, you have more potential than me!" She explained sadly, and Naruto felt his heart feel heavy.

"Well, isn't that sweet. Now Naruto can become part of the team and Sakura get's dropped from the Shinobi Program." Naruto looked at the ribbon in his hand and he ripped it in half, handing the other half to Sakura.

"Wrong." He said. "See? We all have a ribbon, we all pass." Kurenai smiled at the grey haired boy.

"I guess you're right. I guess as of today, you're officially my students and are officially Genin of Konoha, you should be proud. The lesson of that was teamwork." She explained. "You see, when have you ever seen a two man cell? The answer is, you haven't. That's because we all are put into teams of three."

"That makes sense, Itachi-nii said there was a hidden meaning to the test, but I didn't know what it was." Kurenai smiled.

"Itachi is a smart man." Naruto felt his eye twitch at that statement. What was that supposed to mean? Sure, Itachi was a genius, but that was really it, he really wasn't anything special.

Wait a minute, was he getting jealous? What the hell was this? Naruto Hatake does NOT get jealous of anybody, especially not Itachi Uchiha. Naruto took a deep breath, calming himself down as he began walking away.

"Where are you going, Naruto?" Kurenai asked. "We're not done yet." Naruto stopped walking, a sigh escaping his lips.

"Unless you have something to say that'll make me a better weapon, or a smarter tool, then I have nothing to be here for." And then he vanished in a Body Flicker.

"Well, he's gonna be fun, isn't he?" Kurenai asked sarcastically as Sasuke nodded in agreement.

"Yes. He used to be cool and calm. Now he's cold and distant." Kurenai looked at the Uchiha, her eyebrow raised, asking him to explain further. "About a year ago, Naruto changed. I don't know what happened to him, but something happened, for that I have no doubt." Kurenai frowned.

"Guess I'll have to find out then, hm?" Sakura put her hands behind her back, a small smile on her face.

"But sensei, Naruto's not going to tell you anything. Shoot, he doesn't even tell Sasuke-kun anything, and Sasuke's his only friend right now." Kurenai was deep in thought for a second.

"Guess I'll have to get close to him." They heard chuckling come from Sasuke.

"Good luck with that, he's built a brick, nevermind, a STEEL wall, separating him from the rest of the village. His own father can't get pass the damn wall, neither can I."

"Not even Kakashi could?" Sasuke shook his head. "Oh well, I like a challenge."

With Naruto

Naruto sat on top of the Second Hokage's head, always finding a way to cool off by sitting on the deceased man's carving. Danzo had told stories about the man, how he sacrificed his life to save Danzo's, Hiruzen's, and a bunch of Leaf Ninja's lives, all the while distancing himself from other people.

That's how people got strong.

Naruto admired the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju. The man had the most potent water affinity Konoha has ever seen, being able to do large water jutsus without a source of water nearby, being able to take the water molecules out of the air.

Naruto respected that power.

"You passed?" A monotone came from behind Naruto, who was watching the sunset. Naruto looked back and saw Sai, a captain in Root that Danzo had introduced to him awhile back.

"Yes, Sai-senpai." Sai took a seat next to the grey haired boy.

"That's good. Now you can learn new things from your new sensei." Naruto looked at Sai semi-sadly.

"I'm going to miss fighting you. After today, we won't be able to meet at all due to the suspicions the Third already has, and with a Jonin monitoring me, it's even less safe for Danzo-sensei and Root." Sai nodded.

"You're correct. And remember, don't hold onto emotions like sadness, they're useless in the field." Naruto nodded. Sai was constantly telling him to keep his emotions in check.

"Sorry, Sai-senpai."

"Don't be ashamed or sorry, just get better. Sorry never helps anyone in life. If you're always sorry, and yet keep doing it, then you are never truly sorry." Naruto shrugged, standing up and stretching.

"I guess you're right. Goodbye, Sai-senpai."

"Bye, Naruto." Naruto dove off the 2nd Hokage's head, a small smile on his face as he felt the wind go through his hair.

"Tell me, how are you planning on landing?" A voice said from beside him as he fell. Naruto's eyes widened, looking to his right, only to see his sensei free falling next to him.

"W-what are you doing here?" Kurenai shrugged.

"I saw you talking to some pale guy and then jump off. Naturally, I jumped off as well. Tell me, was this a suicide attempt?" Naruto shook his head.

"Suicide is for cowards who can't handle what life's given them." Kurenai narrowed her eyes.

"Is that how you view your grandfather?" Naruto glared at the raven-haired woman and used her body to kick off to get closer to the mountain before stabbing the rock with his sword, causing him to stop after awhile of slicing through the stone.

He watched as Kurenai faded away from view and appeared right next to him.

"That wasn't very nice." She commented.

"Screw you!" He screamed. "You don't have any right to talk about my family! You know nothing!"

"I know that he saved his comrades over his mission, an admirable way to go, just like the Second Hokage. And then he killed himself, leaving his only son alone because he was shamed." Naruto growled. "But how does that affect you? You never met him." She commented. Naruto's eyes turned red for a split moment, causing Kurenai to take a step back, the chakra she was using on the stone monument shifting.

"Shut the hell up!" He roared, disappearing in a red flash that Kurenai's trained Jonin eyes couldn't follow. "You know nothing about me." A voice whispered in her ear, Naruto's voice, before Naruto disappeared.

She sighed and began walking down the monument.

This was going to be harder than she thought. Then again, she did kinda provoke him.

Flashback

"No, I'm sorry. I, I didn't mean too! I thought you were, I thought that-" Naruto's voice choked up as he sobbed uncontrollably.

"It's fine, Naruto." A man's voice said as his mouth began leaking blood. "You've gotten stronger."

"No, it's not fine! You're dying! We need to get you to a hospital!" The man broke into a fit of coughs. "It's too late for that, and I think you know that. I'm going to die here, but I'm glad it was by your hand then anybody else's." Naruto felt his eyes sting as things began to slow down.

"Why? Why did you do it?"

"Because I-" The man stopped talking as he fell limp in Naruto's arms.

Unknowingly to Naruto, his eyes had turned red with a single comma in his eyes, tears rolling down.

"I'm sorry, Torune. . ."

Flashback End

Naruto saw a feather falling from a hawk that was traveling to the Messenger Corp Tower. He slowly reached his hand out and grabbed the feather out of the air, looking as it slowly blew in the wind.

"I'm finally here, mom." He whispered. "I'm officially a ninja as of today, I hope I will make you proud." He got on his knees as he looked at the tombstone of Obito Uchiha, his mother.

"I know I never knew you, but every time I talk to you, I feel like I can get closer to you. The only thing I have left of you is the blood in my veins. Dad doesn't even know I know you're my mom. He doesn't trust me with that information I guess, but that's fine. I don't trust him either." He put a single hand on the grave.

"I hope you have a nice night. Goodnight, mom." He stood up and began walking away from the grave, all the while a person dressed in all black and an orange mask watched. The hooded figure gave off a low chuckle.

"Soon, Kyuubi child, very soon you will be sent to see her. It's only a matter of time." And then the masked figure disappeared in a swirling vortex.

And done. How was it? Good? Bad? Tell meeeee!

Anyways, 3000 words, how is that? Pretty good right? I usually do only 1000 but whatever. I just can't seem to stop writing this story.

I plan on making this story different. I mean, all of my stories are different and the Naruto's all represent something different. AC Naruto represents power, WM Naruto represents shitty writing, TS Naruto represents insanity, LS Naruto represents Will, and HM Naruto represents calamity.

This Naruto, this Naruto will represent something completely different. He'll be a very deep character for sure, and I'm not gonna half ass anything.

Til next time my lil demons!
