Chapter 23: Invisible
"The first round of the final exams will be Sasuke vs. Neji!" The two supposed prodigies of their respective clans walked down to the middle of the arena, glaring at each other.
"Two prodigies from two rival clans, we're both destined to be winners, but, I will not lose today, fate has already decreed me the winner." Sasuke smirked, already gripping a kunai in his left hand, his Sharingan that had two commas in each eye spinning rapidly.
"The Uchiha will always be triumphant over the Hyuga!" Genma noticed both the teenagers ready and began the match, and instantly the boys clashed against each other, breaking into a taijutsu battle.
Sasuke grunted in pain as Neji struck him swiftly, yet hard, sealing up his chakra points with each blow they Neji's fingers dealt. Neji quickly kicked Sasuke back, causing the boy to land on his back as he tried to get up quickly, but was stopped when he felt a kunai land in his shoulder, and this time he shouted in pain as blood dripped from his wound. He looked up to see a smirking Neji.
"Huh, the supposed prodigy of the Uchiha Clan isn't that strong. Guess the Uchiha are quick to call someone a prodigy when they can read a single picture book at age 5." Sasuke glared at the boy.
"Don't underestimate Hop on Pop, that book is filled with words that are big to a five year old." Neji looked confused for a second, but quickly shook his head as he held up a kunai that had a paper bomb wrapped around the hilt.
"This should knock you out, or kill you, I don't care really." Neji said as he threw the kunai and watched as it blew up in Sasuke's face.
"The Sharingan is a strong tool," He heard a voice from behind him say casually. "If used right, you can easily deceive the Byakugan. Shisui-nii taught me that one." Naruto, who was watching from the stands, narrowed his eyes. To deceive the Byakugan, the all-seeing eye, took serious skill, and the fact that Shisui taught him, made Naruto's job all the more difficult.
"That's impossible!" The Hyuga shouted as he glared at Sasuke, the veins around his eyes increasing. "You cannot deceive the Byakugan!"
"Then how come I'm behind you?" Sasuke ended up whispering in Neji's ear, a kunai at the boy's neck. "Yield." Neji's eyes widened, and he slowly raised his hand.
"I give up." The crowd cheered as Neji surrendered as Genma announced Sasuke's victory.
"Now, onto the second match! Can Gaara of the Sand and Naruto Hatake come to the battlefield please?" Both the boys were there in an instant, Gaara glaring at Naruto with unhidden bloodlust and Naruto looking at Gaara with disinterest.
"Begin!" Genma shouted as he backed away, leaving the two Genin to the fight.
"Mother has been wanting your blood." Gaara said with a savage grin. "We've been waiting patiently, and now," He sent his sand at Naruto as he laughed, shouting. "You will prove my existence!"
Kakashi watched from the stands anxiously as he watched his son dodge the sand of the One-Tailed Jinchuuriki, Asuma and Kurenai sitting on either side of him.
"He's going to be fine, Kakashi," Kurenai assured him. "He's not weak."
"Yeah, but neither is the other Jinchuuriki either," Asuma said as he took a drag from his cigarette. "But I'm sure he'll be fine though." He lied to his friend. Kakashi let out a sigh.
"It's not just that," Naruto has been acting strange lately. He's stopped coming home, and I have barely seen him around the village, and he's usually wearing a blank face, as if he doesn't acknowledge anything around him." He said in a sad tone. Kurenai patted him on the back.
"It's not your fault."
"Prove my existence Hatake!" Gaara shouted as Naruto dodged his sand quickly, moving fluently as he slowly decreased the distance between him and the sand ninja.
"How about you shut up and focus on the fight you freak." Naruto whispered as his grey eyes darted back and forth, anticipating the Genin's movements as he dodged the sand.
"I'm not a freak, I'm a monster!" Gaara screamed, his face twisting as he grinned, his eyes wide as the sand lashed out at Naruto, hitting him square in the chest, sending Naruto spiraling as he hit the wall of the arena, causing him to stick to it. "And now, you're nothing!" He sent his sand to create a spike that hit Naruto right in the stomach.
Naruto saw the sand pierce his stomach, and blood slowly flowed out of his mouth as he coughed up a little bit of blood.
Kakashi looked with wide eyes as he watched his son get stabbed in the stomach as Gaara approached him slowly. He stood up, planning on intervening, but was stopped when a single hand was placed on his shoulder, and he looked up to see Guy, shaking his head.
"Believe in your son, Kakashi. Naruto-kun is no longer a child, he knew the chances of this happening." Kakashi glared at Guy with his one visible eye.
"He is MY child. I need to protect him!" He growled out, but Guy's hand only squeezed Kakashi's shoulder harder. The memory of that Christmas when he gave Naruto a kunai came to mind and he slowly sat down, tears threatening to escape his eye.
He was a failure.
"Is this all? All of this waiting, this is what I get? A half assed dodging and then a single move kills you? I'm disappointed." Gaara said as he approached Naruto. "Mother will not be satisfied with your blood, I was wrong about you." Naruto was still coughing, more blood coming out of his mouth, staining the ground beneath him.
The sand removed itself from his stomach, and he fell on his hands and knees unceremoniously, breathing hard. "Y-you're trong," He said, not being able to process his words correctly as he felt himself losing consciousness, and if he did that, he would die.
Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die.Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. He couldn't. He can't die yet. He had to keep his promises! He had to!
"I, I don't wanna wie," He slurred out. "What's gonna appen den?" Gaara glared at the pathetic sight of the boy.
"You're nothing more than trash." Ino, who was watching from the stands was crying, as well as Haku, while Sasuke had gripped the railings harshly. Temari had looked away, not wanting to see the death of, well, Death.
"Time to prove I exist I guess." Gaara said as his sand turned into a spiraling, sharp form as it barreled towards Naruto's head, intently planning on caving in the boy's skull.
"NO!" Kakashi shouted from the stands, being forcefully restrained by both Asuma, and Guy. "That's my baby boy! He's going to die! Let me go!"
I'm going to die. Naruto thought. But to die here, after all I've worked for, after all the blood, sweat, and tears, would be such a. . .waste. Purple chakra began surrounding the boy's body as marks spread across his face. Then, red chakra suddenly exploded, dispersing Gaara's sand as he slowly stood up, and then the dust settled.
Naruto stood on his feet, his wound completely gone as his bottom half of jaw was covered in his blood. A magenta chakra surrounded him, the combination of the cursemark's chakra and the Kyuubi's chakra as his Mangeykou activated, a single black slit going right down the middle of the strange pattern. He had a grin on his face, his head tilted at a weird angle, his eyes wide as the white part of his eyes were bloodshot.
"You said you were a monster but you don't know the meaning," His neck cracked, the grin growing on his face. "Let me show you what a true monster can do!"
And done. It took me FOREVER to write the chapter. Luckily, I finished it before nighttime.
Was it good? Bad? Tell meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Anyways, yeah.
Til next time my lil demons!
