Chapter 21: Wanderer
"Have you seen Naruto lately?" Hiruzen asked his students, a worried look dawning upon his features. Haku and Sasuke shook their heads. Hiruzen frowned. Danzo had been missing too, perhaps they were training again?
Was Danzo the reason why Naruto was like the way he was? Cold and uncaring? He wouldn't put it above the man, but he had trained Naruto before, and Naruto was just fine. So, what?
"Sensei," Haku started. "Why has Naruto been a prick as of lately?" Hiruzen sighed.
"I do not know, Haku-chan. Let's just hope he gets to the final exams in time, we have two more weeks to train, let's go."
"Alright, sensei." Sasuke and Haku said in unison, but there wasn't too much enthusiasm in their words, both thinking about Naruto.
"Temari," Naruto heard a voice growl out. "Why have you brought him here? The Uchiha had just informed me, he is a traitor to our cause!" It was a grown man speaking.
"He was bleeding, and besides, he's the son to Kakashi Hatake, if I were to finish him off, it could start more than just a war, we'd have another White Fang craving vengeance on us." Naruto felt the pain on his stomach and wondered why the Kyuubi wouldn't heal him, but he didn't care. He doesn't need to rely on the fox anyway. But, he was helped in some sort of way. He felt some healing chakra residue on his chest. Perhaps Temari had known a medical ninjutsu?
"Kakashi can't do anything against Gaara," The man said, and Naruto felt a chakra increase in the room. "Guess I'll take out the trash."
"If you put that wind blade anywhere near me," Naruto began, sitting up, his Mangekyou active as he glared at the man he recognized as Baki, the sensei to the Suna Genin. "I'll burn you alive with the flames of heaven." Baki stopped mid-step, unsure of what action to do. Risk his life trying to kill someone with the eyes of Madara Uchiha, or step down and be known as a coward.
The first option sounded better.
He rushed forward, but suddenly found Naruto no longer sitting in the place he were a second ago.
"I'm going to be honest." He heard Naruto say from a love seat that was in their hotel room. "I care not for this village's people, the civilians at least. But it seems to threaten everybody in the village, including the shinobi." His Sharingan began spinning. "You'll call off this foolish attempt to subdue us, we will no be snuffed out." Baki snarled.
"Even the greatest flames can be put out." He responded in anger.
"Yes, but they turn the sand into glass before they do so, then the glass falls and shatters, scattered and weak." Naruto popped his neck. "Just to be clear, I know all about your plan to attack us with the help of the Uchiha and the Sound Village, but if you do so," Waves upon waves of killing intent came off of him, making Baki sweat as Temari was trying hard to stay on her feet. "I will kill everyone who dares attack us. To do so, means threatening my precious people, and I will not allow that to happen."
"You think you can take on Gaara? Are you a fool?!" Baki shouted, but stopped when Naruto began laughing.
"Perhaps, but I'm not afraid of your One-Tailed Jinchuuriki." He stood up. "Especially since I am the Nine-Tailed Jinchuuriki, guess they didn't tell you that little bit, did they?" Baki's blood froze. This child had to be bluffing, there was no way, and if he was speaking the truth, then they were lying to him.
"Goodbye, I'll be seeing you in the Third Exam." He opened the door, but looked back, meeting Temari's eyes. "And thank you, for healing me I guess." And with that, he shut the door.
'Come on, you can do it. Just jump.' Naruto thought as he looked at the open slit in the ground, leading more than several hundred yards down, where the ground wasn't even visible.
"If I don't survive?" He asked aloud. 'Then we get what we deserve, come on. Do it.' Naruto shook his head.
"We're insane, aren't we?" He didn't get an answer in response, he only closed his eyes as a sad smile appeared on his face as he jumped, the wind blowing his grey hair back as tears left freely from his eyes.
'Danzo, Fu, Torune, I'm a failure.' Were his last thoughts as he hit the ground.
". . .what?" Naruto muttered as he rolled onto his back, ignoring the pain that went through his bodies as he looked at the dark cavern. "I can't, it's impossible. Even with the Kyuubi. How. . ." He looked like a mess. His arms were broken, no, shattered, his legs were also shattered and his ribs were broken in many different places, his shoulders dislocated and his neck twisted at a weird angle.
"Why can't I die?!" He shouted as tears fell down his broken face. "I want to die, why can't I? Please, just. . ." He trailed off as his vision began getting blurry. A broken smile formed on his face.
"M-momma?" He whispered. "I, I can't wait to meet you. I've never m-met you, but, I miss you so much." He closed his eyes, unaware of a pure white being walking up to him and lifting his body off the ground.
After all, who could react when death was knocking on the front door?
Naruto slowly opened his eyes, rubbing away the sleep from his eyes as he tried sitting up, only to stop as pain lit up in his midsection, causing him to promptly lay back down. He let out a groan of pain as he looked around, only to see two candles alight as they revealed brown rock, meaning he was in a cave of some sort. Then, he saw a pair of green eyes staring at him.
"Who are you?" Was Naruto's first question. A third candle was lit, revealing a man with green hair, and a body of pure white, with no genitals whatsoever, but arms and legs. He was basically a pure white human with little lines.
"Zetsu, my name is Zetsu." The man asked, his voice light, but had a pang of sadness in it. "I saved you."
"Why?" Naruto croaked out. "I was fine with dying. I wanted to die. Everything would've been fine, I left a note on my bed at home warning of the Uchiha and Sand. They should've known. If I stayed, then I would've hurt the people I love."
"Is that what you tell yourself? You're just like your mother." Naruto's eyes snapped open as he looked at the man with a mix of curiosity and anger.
"What do you know of my mother?"
"A lot, actually." Zetsu answered simply as he sat down. "You see, I had a partner once, he was a bad person and black."
"Racist."
"Shut up." Zetsu replied. "Anyways, your mother was on the doors of death when we found her, we saved her, trained her with Madara Uchiha, one of your relatives, not directly of course, but you share the same DNA. Then she returned to the Leaf, and had you with Kakashi Hatake." He spat the name of his father as if he had eaten something bitter.
"Then, a masked man going by the name Madara, freed the Kyuubi from a woman named Kushina Uzumaki, and her husband, Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, sealed him into you. They both died that day, and Obito died protecting you."
"From what?" Naruto asked. Zetsu's eyes narrowed.
"Those damn Uchiha. Their clan leader killed your mother. How he did it, I don't know. . . Obito was the strongest human I ever knew besides Madara in his prime, and even then, he couldn't control Mokuton to the same extent she did." Naruto's eyes widened.
"Mom had Mokuton? As in Hashirama Senju's Kekkei Genkai?" Zetsu nodded.
"The very same. You see, your mother was crushed saving your father from a falling boulder, and she would've died, had it not been for me and my counterpart at the time. We saved her and we reconstructed her limbs, which ended up giving her Mokuton, since my clones can use Mokuton to a certain extent."
"I knew my mother died protecting me, though I didn't know it was because her own family tried to use me as their own personal weapon. Though, her sacrifice may have been in vain, they got be under their control anyway."
"A sad but true statement. But it's time I reveal my intentions to you. When your mother came to be, a few months pregnant with you, she made me swear that if anything were to happen to her, I would take care of you. Lately, I haven't had to do anything because of your father stepping up the role, but after that pathetic suicide attempt, I feel as if I have to step in."
:And what exactly are you going to do? Train me and make me all powerful so when I enter the Chunin Exams I can whoop everyone's ass? Sorry Zetsu, my life won't be dictated like some stupid fanfiction." Zetsu rose an eyebrow.
"What?" He asked. Naruto looked at him weirdly.
"What?" Zetsu shook his head, forgetting that single phrase.
"No, I won't be training you. You're already stronger than me at this point, your Mangekyou is proof of that. You have strength, a strength not many have."
"The Man-" Naruto started, but was cut off as the green haired man held up his hand.
"No, I do not mean physical strength. You are strong physically, but there are many, many people in this world who's strength leaves much to be desired from you. No, I mean you are strong emotionally. Your will to strike down one you loved so you could no longer be controlled is proof to that, the fact that you also tried to die by jumping into a ravine is also proof. Not many can commit suicide so easily."
Naruto turned away at the mention of Danzo. He had just broken the influence that Fugaku had put him under, and the first thing he does? Kill his own teacher for power. That was something only the sick minded do. He was truly a. . .
"Stop thinking like that," Zetsu interrupted his thoughts, seemingly knowing what Naruto was thinking. "It will help no one. What is done is done. There is no changing the past, besides, reading those fics always turns into a bummer or they aren't finished."
"What?" Naruto asked. What did Zetsu mean?"
"What?" This time it was Zetsu who gave him a weird look, as if unaware of what the author made him say. "Nevermind," Zetsu muttered. "Anyways, guess I'll heal you now since the Kyuubi is doing a shit job at it." He walked over and stood over Naruto, and his hands began healing the boy. Naruto felt the pain that had spread to his body quickly dissipated. He sat up without much trouble now and stretched.
"Thank you Zetsu." Naruto said as the man nodded.
"No problem, but every favor comes a price. But mine is simple." Naruto looked at Zetsu, awaiting for the man to speak. Zetsu grinned as he closed his eyes. "Live." Naruto looked away for a moment.
"I'm not sure I can pay that price, Zetsu." Zetsu groaned childishly.
"Fiiinnneeee, then at least make sure you die for something awesome, or at least of old age. Don't kill yourself." Naruto smiled sadly at the white man.
"I'll see you later someday, Zetsu." Naruto said in a sad tone before he vanished from sight. Zetsu rolled his eyes.
"Stupid Uchiha brats and their showy disappearances."
And done. How was it? Good? Bad? Tell meeeeeeeeeeeee!
Anyways, in this story, I plan on having Naruto be grey! As in, not good, but not bad either. He will be doing the things he wants to do, and what he sees as right.
Perspective is a big part in this story. Hope it was good.
Til next time my lil demons!
