Chapter 32: Kumo
Third person pov
Even standing outside its entrance, Kumo looked absolutely amazing. Hollow was in awe. Towering mountains were littered with buildings, which were surrounded by clouds in turn. That was probably where this village got its name, Hollow admired as she peeked around. It looked like a completely pleasant place!
"So you want in?" One of the Kumo guards asked. "What's your business here."
"We need an audience with the fucking Raikage, that's what." Hidan thrust a thumb into his chest. Shisui sighed. Lying would have been better. Saying they were here for the cuisine or something. Now, they'd be nothing but hesitant to let them in. Although, having Hollow probably helped. She wasn't exactly intimidating.
"What's your business with him?" The guard's eyebrows raised.
"Business this, business that. Let us the fuck in and mind your own damn business for a change." Meatball Kyle shook a small fist at the man, who jumped slightly. Hollow couldn't very well blame the poor Kumo ninja for looking startled. From what she understood, talking meatballs were not all that common. Meatball Kyle had to be one of the few out there!
"I-I think he's just d-doing his job..." Hollow trailed off quietly. She didn't want to be rude to Meatball Kyle, but she was quite sure the man's exact purpose was to prevent bad or suspicious people from getting into the village. That's the impression she got anyway. She didn't think a place like this could just let people in.
"At least one of you gets it." The man grumbled, glancing down at Hollow. Hollow blinked back up at him. The man really didn't see how a kid like that could do something bad. Sure, they'd had child soldiers in the past, but that was during the war. This kid wasn't old enough to have seen any war, so he highly doubted she was an enemy.
"So can we go in or what, fuckface?" Hidan asked. The man sighed heavily, looking quite exhausted. Hollow took note of the woman floating next to him. She was young, around his age, and she looked very sad. Hollow peered at her as Hidan and Meatball Kyle began to argue with the morose man guarding the gate.
"You can see me?" She didn't sound surprised. Just sad. Hollow offered a small nod, tilting her head at the woman, who smiled a wry smile. She must have died very recently, Hollow assumed. Or at least, the ache from it was still there. She looked sadder than any ghosts she'd ever seen.
"I'm Rimika." The woman sighed. "This is... was my fiance."
Hollow felt herself frown. Fiance?
"It means they were going to get married. She probably passed away before they got the chance..." Hikari's tone was soft and sympathetic. Hollow felt her heart drop. That's horrible!
"I'm sorry." Hollow murmured. The woman smiled, but again, it was sad and tired. Ghosts didn't need sleep, so the exhaustion had to be emotional. Hollow felt nothing but immense sorrow for Miss Rimika, who looked completely wiped out.
"It's not your fault, little one. Can you pass on a message?" The woman suddenly looked a little hopeful, and that made Hollow a little hopeful. She perked up readily, nodding. The woman's smile seemed a little happier now. Hollow listened dutifully.
"Tell him I'm still here, and that I will watch over him until the end of his days." The woman smiled. "Tell him it's okay to move on, and thank you for the picnic. The tulips were beautiful."
Hollow nodded readily, turning to look at the man, who was beginning to get annoyed with Hidan and Meatball Kyle. She didn't want to interrupt, but she was eager to give her message as soon as possible. That was she could be useful!
"E-Excuse me." Hollow squeaked. She was met with silence. Shisui, who'd been quiet, smiled proudly as Hollow inched forward slightly. She cowered under the gazes of everyone, but there was no hesitation when she raised her head to look at the guard.
"Miss Rimika says that she is still here, and t-that she will watch over you under the e-end of your days." Hollow relayed as confidently as she could. The guard froze. "S-She says it's okay to move on, and thank you f-for the picnic. Sh...She said the t-tulips were beautiful."
The man stared at her, eyes wide, and shoulders tense. Meatball Kyle and Hidan were both silent, staring at her with surprised expressions. There was a ghost here? For some reason, Hidan hadn't thought about ghosts outside the Akatsuki's base.
The guard swallowed thickly, and then he stepped aside, his eyes watering.
"You're free to go in. Have a good visit."

Walking through town, Hollow felt happy. She'd helped that woman get a message to her fiance, and she'd gotten them inside! This was a good day! That, and the town here was so nice. People did give them some odd looks, probably because of her hair, but she did her best to ignore it just like Hidan told her to.
"Good job, Hollow. You did great." Shisui smiled at the girl as she bounced along behind Hidan, seeming happier and a little less nervous than before. That was good, in Shisui's opinion.
"I-I am glad I c-could help her!" Hollow exclaimed, eyes shining. Helping people felt good. It made her happy because they were happy, and that's all she really wanted. Being useful was such a nice thing. It meant she could do more things for others!
"You really are the purest damn teenager." Hidan scoffed. "Go illegally drink beer or some shit!"
"Don't do that." Shisui said immediately, deadpanning. Hollow nodded slowly, not sure what was happening, or what beer really was. She knew what illegally meant! It meant to do something in a way that is contrary to or forbidden by law! Hikari had taught here that.
"Hey, get your ghosty friend to carry your short ass. I'm not waiting for your little pencil legs to catch up." Hidan said as he started up the stairs. Meatball Kyle, who sat upon Hollow's shoulder, scoffed, muttering about Hidan being an asshole. Hollow felt her cheeks light up blue as he crawled back into her hood, leaving her and Shisui to stare at each other.
"Well, come here then." Shisui grinned. Hollow sighed.
