Chapter 16: The plan is there is no plan
Third person pov
"So do we train her, or what?" Hidan asked, his eyebrows raising. Everyone looked to Pein expectantly, waiting for the answers he had so far failed to provide for them.
"What can this brat possibly do? See dead people? Make them... visible? Big deal." Sasori scoffed, even though it sort of was a big deal. Because dead people are, well, dead. And gone. And you really don't see them again all that often, unless you're having some psychotic break, or someone is messing up somewhere.
"Yes, we will train her, and teach her, and provide her with the proper care." Pein said, folding his arms over his chest and nodding as though he knew exactly what he was doing, and getting into.
"Children need love and stability." Itachi spoke up coldly, meeting Pein's gaze levelly. The man clicked his tongue, his Rinnegan eyes moving to the scared Hollow.
"Then someone here will provide it for her." Pein insisted. Kisame snorted slightly, leaning forward.
"I don't think that's how love works, un." Deidara said, scratching the back of his head.
"Tobi agrees." The masked man gritted out, his voice wavering between deep and childish. He got a few odd looks, but nothing more. Pein exhaled heavily through his nose, his eyes scanning the crowd.
"Hollow, what do you think?" He seemed to make a decision, turning to the girl. She shrunk back in her seat, eyes wide. The entire room seemed to fill with sighs.
"You're asking the kid? Really? The fucking kid?" Hidan asked, all but throwing his hands up with exasperation. Hollow shrunk back more, her hands grabbing Shisui's arm.
"Oh yeah, because asking the 'fucking brat' is sooo bad." Shisui scoffed at them angrily, his eyes narrowed and his fist clenched. Rin's hand found Hollow's, and she squeezed it in attempts to comfort the jittery girl.
"Yeah." Rin snarled, her voice so snappy and mean that it made Hollow jump. Everyone turned towards her. "Seeing ghosts isn't that great. Hah hah, yeah, big deal. It's not like it has any value. You know, like revealing that- Oh."
Rin paused, looking down at the wide eyed Hollow. When she'd jumped, a jolt of chakra had traveled down her arm and straight into Rin, allowing the room to see her. Tobi was stock still, completely unmoving in response to the girl's sudden appearance, while everyone else watched Rin with mild interest as she tried to think of something to say. Hollow swallowed heavily.
"You're all dirt bags." She finally seemed to decide. Everyone froze. "All of you except Itachi, and maybe Kisame. Kisame is sort if half and half, honestly. But for the most part, this organization is made up of total and complete dirt bags. Lowlife scum who torment innocent people while it chases the illusion of world peace. Well news flash: You're doing it wrong. Completely wrong!"
Nobody dared interrupt Rin's rant. She was a teenager, or at least she looked like one, but she was also terrifying. "I adore Hollow. I haven't known her long, and yet she has already touched my literally non-existent heart." Kisame, Deidara and Hidan couldn't not snicker at this. "If Pein thinks she can bring world peace, then she probably can! She has Hikari, the goddess of light guiding her. And as Yahiko said, she hasn't done anything yet! She is probably the purest teenager on this entire planet right now."
There were, surprisingly, mumbles of agreement. "Does Hollow know of the tension between the great nations?" Itachi questioned, his voice cool and smooth.
"Yeah, Hikari told her, and so did Shisui." Rin's bold words nearly made the Uchiha flinch. Shisui shot her a rather perplexed look.
"No I didn-" He was cut off by the clearly-irritated Rin, who was currently taking shit from no one.
"Shisui, shut the hell up and provide moral support. I don't remember asking for your opinion."
Deidara let out a low whistle.
"And what does... Hollow think of the tension?" Kakuzu didn't care about world peace, but he was curious. Rin turned to Hollow, her face turning from annoyed and sorta-enraged to kind and supportive. It sent shivers down the spines of a few members.
"It's okay, Hollow." Midori assured her, stroking her hair in a comforting sort of way. Sasodai and Yahiko nodded rapidly in agreement, while Shisui offered a thumbs up.
"W-Well... I-I guess I'd try to c-create a b-big alliance." Hollow squeaked out, her eyes wide. Hidan's eyebrows raised.
"And how the fuck the you propose we do that?" He got sharp looks from Rik, Konan and Pein for that one.
Hollow gained a perplexed look.
"W-Well, by being k-kind."
