Chapter One Hundred and Twelve Evelin

Chapter One Hundred and Twelve
Evelin

Robert wanted to say something, but Evelin loudly said, "Enough, don't go on." Evelin Dixon was there and sat silently next to Robert.
Robert calmly asked, "Mom, what are you doing here?"
"I came to see you and Anna, but instead, I heard this ridiculous argument."
"What does that man's story have to do with Anna? As far as I remember, you said several times that Dad mistreated us because of Martin and left us alone."
Evelin, looking worriedly at Anna, said, "He didn't leave me alone; I asked him to. Why aren't you paying attention to Anna; she's not well."
"Wasn't that what you said, Mother?"
Evelin, frustrated, said, "I never said that ridiculous thing; it's very silly. Besides, you were just a little boy back then!"
Anna said, "I'm going to rest for a bit." Then she asked Mr. Dixon, "Just two questions; are my parents still alive?"
Steve nodded his head in confirmation.
   "When can I see them?"
   "Very soon."
Anna wanted to leave when Robert said, "Anna, wait; let me come with you."
Anna said, "No, stay here; I hope you get rid of the hatred you feel for whatever reason." And she left.
Robert stood up and softly said, "Anna!"
Evelin took his hand and said, "Let her be alone for a moment." Then she said, "We need to talk about this hatred so the problem can be solved."
Robert sat down and said, "This problem will never be solved."
"When you understand that your father not only did nothing wrong but stayed away from us to protect his wife and child, so all the dangers would only affect him, will you stop this dangerous game? To ease his and my conscience, he had to do some things."
Mr. Dixon said, "Evelin, please don't continue."
"I can't stay silent anymore; this matter is getting dangerous; your son is taking action against you while you are innocent."
Robert said, "I'm confused; please explain what you are talking about?"
"Our life story, Anna, and Peter Miller's have become intertwined and turned into a complicated tale."
"I don't understand; what could that mean?"
Evelin said, "Your father tried to make me come back here and face my fears and end this complicated story and this torment, but I resisted; our arguments were about this. He did nothing wrong; he was always by my side; I love him. Hating your father means hating me." Then she said, "Besides, your father's behavior towards you and Rebecca wasn't always bad."
"Wait, do you expect me to believe that Dad made no mistakes?"
Steve Dixon said, "I tried to explain it to you, but accepting it is up to you; however, Anna's mental state is more important than all of this."
Evelin told Robert, "Please don't tell Anna not to believe your father's words; be there for her and give her peace."
"Does this story really hold true, Mother?"
   "Yes, trust me."
