Chapter One Hundred and Thirteen
Scott
Mr. Moyes, who after a long time felt happy about leaving this place and returning to Paris, bought a few small gifts for his wife and quickly returned home from work to pack the suitcases for the trip. While constantly calling out for Amy, he went to the bedroom. He threw the suitcase on the bed, quickly pulled out a few clothes from the wardrobe, and threw them into the suitcase, only then realizing Amy's absence. He remembered that he hadn't seen or heard Amy since the morning. He stood up and, with great anxiety, searched all the rooms for her but found no trace, which led him to despair until his eyes fell on a piece of paper on the small table next to the bed. With trembling hands, he picked it up and read:
"I know you must be very surprised, but don't worry. I am going on a trip at the insistence of one of my friends; I know you are as surprised as I am, but I cannot dissuade her from this. My friend knows that I should go to Paris with you, but she doesn't listen. I wrote this note very quickly for you; don't worry about me, looking forward to seeing you in Paris."
Mr. Moyes gave a nervous laugh, then crumpled the paper, threw it with a shout, and said softly, "She finally left; I lost her." Then, with worry, he ran towards the kitchen, stopped a few steps from the open trash can, then slowly approached it and looked into the empty garbage can. It seemed his legs could no longer bear him; he sat on the kitchen floor and said, "I should have torn that damned box to pieces or set it on fire; what if Amy didn't see it? I'm really an idiot."
