Chapter One Hundred and Forty-One
Robert
Robert stood in Mr. Collins' room next to a small library, looking at the paper in his hand with surprise. He said, "I can't believe Martin Holland wrote this letter to his wife and explained the situation, yet the matter continued for so many years! So Mr. Collins didn't give this letter to Anna's mother, but why?"
Mr. Cobb, who was next to Robert, said, "In this paper, it continues from the same letter, stating that besides the Collins brothers, he also suspects the only daughter of this family, Beatrice." Then he said quietly, "I just got some information about Beatrice a few days ago."
"So this whole affair was a calculated plan, but what was the Collins family's motive?!"
Mr. Cobb shrugged and said, "Everyone has their own motives."
Robert said, "I didn't know Mr. Collins had a sister? But now I hear she was involved in this matter!"
"She has been living in France for a few years but recently returned to London; I even have her address."
Robert turned to Mr. Cobb and said, "Did you give this address to Mr. Holland?"
Mr. Cobb said, "Yes, why?" Then he paused and said, "Martin might be there now! What does he want to do? It's dangerous." Then he ran towards the exit with Robert. Mr. Cobb took a deep breath when he saw Martin Holland standing across the street; he said to Robert, "Did you take those papers?"
Robert said, "Yes, most of them are Mr. Holland's confession letters about being threatened before his arrest, which he wrote to his wife, and two letters from his wife asking him to come home; but apparently, none of them reached Martin Holland and his wife. There's also a letter that he wrote to his sister, saying that he regretted cooperating foolishly with her and if they didn't stop, he would go to the police and confess everything."
"Don't show the last one to Martin for now."
"Why not?"
Mr. Cobb, while walking across the street, said, "I'll tell you later."
Martin impatiently said, "What did you find in that house?"
Robert said, "A bunch of private letters for you."
"Letters for me! Is that all?"
Mr. Cobb put his hand on Martin's shoulder and, while taking the letters from Robert to give to Martin, said, "Maybe you'll be happy reading these, Martin."
Martin went to the nearby park; he distanced himself a bit from the two who were silently following him and read the letters; after a few minutes, he signaled James Cobb and Robert to come closer and said to James, "Do you know how long they've been out of the house?"
"Two hours! Why?"
"Do you know where they went?"
Mr. Cobb, while working with his mobile phone, calmly said, "The airport."
Martin said in surprise, "You are too calm, my friend; they are escaping! Do you know their travel destination?"
"I'll find out now."
"Good, I have to go too. Call me quickly if there's any news."
