Chapter 5
I woke up in an excited mood. This is the day I'm going to get the interpretation I longed for. This is the day where it all makes sense. This is the day I'm going to know if that dream was a message or a prophecy.
I stretched my arms and rubbed my eyes. I got out of bed and headed down to the kitchen. I greeted dad a good morning and he greeted me as well. I grabbed the box of cereal at the refrigerator and proceeded to pour some of it into the bowl that I got from the plates case. I got some milk and poured it on. Finally, I got a spoon and voila! Ze' breakfast is served.
I sat at the dining table and began devouring the cereal in front of me. Once all the cereal was gone, I drank the leftover milk and put the bowl and the spoon on the kitchen sink. "Hey, Gray. Make sure to wake up Matt again, eh? He's going to be late again." my dad said. I gave him a nod and he replied with a smile. I headed up the stairs and entered mom and dad's room where my brother is sleeping.
Waking him up is like squeezing blood from a stone. It's so hard. I shook his foot violently until he woke up which took an awful lot of time because he has this habit of fooling me by pretending to have woken up but when I leave, he'll just sleep again. So now, I just shook his foot violently up to the point where he won't dare to pretend.
I took my towel from the towel rack and entered the bathroom to take a shower. After that, I changed into my uniform, packed my school bag and went off to school. It was amazing because as soon as I got to the loading spot, a jeepney was already there and unlike the other ones I've encountered, this one was empty. I went in and just waited.
As I arrived at school, I walked to the classroom. Apparently, I was almost late because I just saw Mrs. Cobblestone heading towards the classroom as I arrived. I sat down on my chair and put my bag beside me.
"Someone's looking fresh today. What's up?" Vince said with a smirk.
"Well," Denver placed his elbow on Vince's shoulder, "maybe he finally told Adrianna that he has a--"
"SHUT UP!" I hissed, which earned a laugh from the two. They occupied the vacant seats beside me and gave me a weird look. "Nothing happened guys, I'm just excited." I told them. Both of them gave me puzzling looks. "Excited about what?" Denver asked.
"Excited for recess. Because I'm finally going to ask Mrs. Smith about the meaning of my dream." I told them with a smile. They looked at each other with a prolonged oh.
"Well tell us afterwards!" Vince stated. I just smile and they went back to their seats. Mrs. Cobblestone entered and we all greeted her a good morning. She set up a projector and a laptop. She had us watch a documentary about genetics or something. I learned nothing, honestly. Besides the fact that I can't hear from the back, my other classmates were talking.
I just sat there and as usual, scribbled at the back of my notebook, glancing from time to time so it won't be obvious that I was doing something else. The video was 50 minutes long and when it was done, Mrs. Cobblestone collected our homework and she said goodbye as we did the same.
It was Math time.
Before Mrs. Smith entered, she first talked to Mrs. Cobblestone for a few minutes. Their conversation ended with a laugh as they waved each other goodbye and eventually, Mrs. Smith shut the door. She put down her bags and greeted us a good morning as we did the same.
"Class, as you know, Friday is coming up. We have our activity in my classroom SOS 2. I invite you to participate as we hear the word of the Lord. You'll that it's an amazing experience. You know, the true measure of love is through time. If we put our time in serving the Lord, no time is wasted. I hope to see you all there." she said with a smile.
Mrs. Smith is a pastor of Jesus, Bread of Life. They have this activity every Friday at her classroom from 4-5 pm where they preach the word of God and sing songs of worship and praise. Actually, she has invited us to that activity since June. It's December now so she has been inviting us for almost six months yet none of us ever show up. She never gets tired of inviting us week after week and now, I actually feel sorry for her. I don't know if the same goes through with my classmates.
She started discussing our lesson in which I participated actively. Normally, Math would bore me and in the end, I wouldn't learn anything but there's something about her teaching skills that makes it so easy for me to internalize everything she's writing or saying.
It was finally 9:20 am which marks the end of our Math class.
It's time.
Usually, when Mrs. Smith leaves, Dustin, the most responsible human being in this classroom, stands and carries one or two of her bags and accompanies her to her classroom. I plan to beat him to it. The disadvantage was, I was at the back and he was a row behind the front.
Without hesitation, I stood up and offered Mrs. Smith to carry her bags which got me a weird look from her. I usually don't help people, let alone have the thought of doing so. So it's no question that she was shocked with my gesture. Dustin came too, carrying the heaviest bag. I want to help but I don't want the heavy one so I just handed it to him.
We walked past multiple students and teachers until we finally arrived at her classroom. She gestured for us to place the bags on her table and she thanked us. Dustin left while I stayed.
"Uhm. Mrs. Smith?" I said. She faced me and asked, "What is it, my dear?"
"I need help with something." I did not look at her. I was shy. (Yes, I get shy)
"Help with what?" she asked.
"Remember when you told us about your dream about being lifted up to Heaven?" I asked, now looking at her in the eye. She nodded which is an indication that I should continue. I told her everything. From the earthquake, the darkness, the floating, the Vince, the slipping, the falling. Same through with Vince and Denver, her expression changed when I got to the part where I fell.
"...and I was wondering if you know the meaning of my dream." I finished. She gave me a concerned look and smiled at me. "Yes, dear. It's pretty clear what the Lord is trying to say." she said.
At this moment I'm just thankful. I never thought that she knew the meaning behind my dream and it was pretty clear that there was a message behind all of that. She sat down a chair and gestured to the nearby chair so I could sit.
"What is he saying through my dream?" I asked.
This was it.
