Chapter 4
It's either I go home to yelling, laughing or silence.
This time, it's yelling. Ugh. It's like that wheel game where the space occupied by the word "yelling" is 95% of the wheel, 4% for "silence", and 1% for "laughing. I'd be lucky if that arrow points to laughing.
"Why did you arrive home late!?" my mom asked again. I just turned my back and answered, "I accompanied Ivory to the mall because she bought something."
"It's always like this! You come home late and never get things done! You're *beeping* worthless!" she yelled.
I just smiled without her seeing it as I made my way through the stairs. For more than half of my existence I've experienced multiple insults. I just got used to it. Sure, it leaves a pang in my heart knowing that my own mom would call me worthless but really, I just went with it. I remember that moment when I completely snapped at her insult when I was 10 years old. I received a slap from her. As I grew older, I knew that fighting back is futile so I just endured the insults, no matter how painful they were.
It's not like she's the worst mom in the world. She still cooks our food, buys me my things and still cares for us. The only issue is the mean insults she pierces through my heart. Not only mine, also at my little brother and my father.
We sometimes get along. We laugh, we tell each other stories. We're like best frienemies. Even though her words are hurtful, I know that she loves me and I love her too.
I went inside my room and laid my backpack on the chair beside the window. I changed into my home wear and just sat there, thinking of something to do. Well, I have homework but that'll have to wait. My usual homework schedule starts after dinner.
Since there's nothing to do, I just prepared my stuff so when I do my homework, it'll be easy to grab. Also, it's a good time to start remembering all the homework that's going to be submitted for tomorrow.
As I unpacked my things, I saw the Bible. All of the things that happened today came storming in my mind again. Giving me mixed emotions. I'm happy because my dream was a waiting reality and sad because I might face the bitter part of that soon to be reality. I placed the Bible at my bed because there's no more space at the table because it's loaded with paperwork, books and notebooks.
"GRAY!" I jumped in surprise as I heard the mention of my name. I hurried down the stairs and into the kitchen where my mom has just finished cooking dinner. "Yeah?" I asked. "Call your brother and start arranging the table for dinner." she commanded.
"MATT!" I yelled. I stared at my brother, who is in the living room, from the kitchen. He was playing with his tablet while NOT watching TV. Unbelievable. I yelled a second time and that's when he sighed and slammed the tablet on the couch and he headed to the kitchen. "You don't have to yell!" he sneered. "Well, you don't have to be a lazy slob!" I fired back.
Ah, yes. That's brotherly love.
"You're a loser!" he scorned. See? Perfect picture of love.
Anyway, when we finished setting up, I called dad so we can all eat together. We ate silently, only the noise of the steel spoon and fork clashing with the glass plate can be heard along with the sound coming from the TV.
After eating, I place my plate on the sink, washed my hands and hurried upstairs. Once I entered my bedroom, I quickly plugged in my laptop and turned it on along with the pocket wifi. I went over the stuff I had put out to figure out what I'm going to do first. I chose to do my science homework first.
I checked through my Facebook first to just, you know, be updated with the certain issues people are going through. Basically, it's just full of selfies and some statuses stating their desperate need for love. Disgusting.
As I was doing my research on genetic something, I heard the familiar Facebook chat tone. I checked to see who it was and to my surprise, it was Vince. He usually doesn't chat me. When he does, he just asks what the homework is. But this time, it's different.
Vince: Bro! Hey there, just wanted to check on you. Are you okay now? I also read the Bible here at home. I read through Revelation. It's amazing! Especially chapter 22! Anyways, I hope you're feeling okay by now.
Chapter 22? Well, now that I think of it, I did not continue to chapter 22. I just stopped at chapter 21. I turned to face my bed and saw the Bible just sitting there. Because of my curiosity, I decided to read the chapter. Then I noticed that chapter 22 was the last one! That only got me more pumped to read it.
As I'm reading, I couldn't help but smile. I visualized everything that was stated in there. In Heaven, there was full of joy and sorrow will be completely gone. Forever will be in paradise.
After I finished reading, I couldn't help but stare at the one statement that was repeated three times in the chapter.
I come quickly.
I couldn't help but think that Jesus was talking to me. It's like He's sending me a warning of some sort. I felt that strong feeling especially at a specific verse:
"And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be."
-Revelation 22:12
I really digested the things I've read and closed the Bible with a smile still plastered on my face. I put the Bible beside me and went back to doing my homework on my laptop. But before I resumed, I replied to Vince. It would be rude of me if I didn't reply.
Gray: Hello, bro! Actually, it still hurts now but when I read the last chapter, it's was if I was given hope! It was amazing. Hope you're doing fine as well! Get on with your homework! Haha.
After that, I focused on finishing the heap of homework waiting for me and as soon as I was done, I shut off the laptop and I excitedly plunged into my bed.
Tomorrow, I'm gonna get the interpretation I needed.
