Chapter 29

"Yes."

As she said that, Grace's smile widened and her hug tightened as tears escape from her eyes. My heart just melted with overflowing joy because she's saved. We proceeded on praying and I waved goodbye to both of them.

I searched for Denver over by the fountain. Seeing as there was no sign of him, I walked further until I heard his voice. I followed it and it led me to him and Charlie evangelizing a bald man. I hid in order to avoid distraction.

The man had a smile plastered on his face as he was listening to Denver preaching about God. I couldn't really hear much but I could tell that the man was not just a listener.

I waited for him to finish and as soon as he said farewell to the stranger, I swooped in.

"Denver!" I waved. He turned around and as he saw me, he replied with a wave. I ran to him and gently smacked his shoulder once I arrived.

"How did your evangelism go?" I asked.

"It went well. I've already evangelized two people. They were both very submissive and were participating well. How about you?" he asks in return.

"It was very amazing! I made a non-believer become a believer again! God is so amazing! They were mother and daughter."

"Wow! Okay, so let's try over there by the bleachers beside the stage." He suggests. I nod and I follow him, Charlie is still with us. He just silently follows us. Once we arrive at the bleachers, we saw a man who, judging by his appearance, looks like a 40-something guy. He looked serious as he stares into the stage.

"Gray, you take this one. I'll watch" Denver says.

Without a moment's hesitation, I get up on the bleachers and sit beside him. He sees me and immediately avoids eye contact. He looks irritated by the sight of me. I look at Denver and he gestures for me to go on with the evangelism.

"So how are you?" I ask.

He doesn't answer for what I believe is the longest time ever and finally he says a cold "I'm fine."

This is a test. I have short patience and I know that this is a test. I shake off the thought and still remain smiling as I ask, "Do you mind me preaching to you about the Lord?"

He turns away and says "I don't have time."

At that moment my heart shattered. I was rejected by him. I saw Denver look at me with a compassionate look knowing that he knew what just happened because of my broken facial expression. He gestured for me to come down and I did, leaving the man with a "God bless".

Denver saw that I was about to cry so he comforted me. Call me a baby or whatever but after a successful evangelism with two people, I wasn't prepared to be rejected. Those four words he said shot through my heart like a very sharp spear. Not only did he reject me, but he rejected the Lord as well.

I sat down at the bench where I first evangelized the three children as I watch Denver evangelize another man not far from where I'm sitting. This time, he's evangelizing a senior citizen.

After some time, I grew tired of waiting so I searched for Janette and Jet. I searched for them and I saw them beside a tree evangelizing two people at the same time. Just like with Denver, I hid to avoid interruption. I couldn't hear them talking but I could tell they were having fun because they were laughing with the people they're evangelizing.

As I return to where I sat, I saw Denver already there looking defeated. Charlie went home at that point so it was only Denver. I ran and sat beside him. He had the same expression as me when I was rejected. I could tell that he was fighting the urge to cry.

"What happened? You seem to have had a successful evangelism with that man. Why are you sad?" I ask, laying my hand on his shoulder.

"Evangelism turned into a debate." He said. "He was contradicting the word and he forced to prove that his religion was real. I've had enough and just thanked him. He left and I just sat here."

Wow. He had it harder than me. Not only did that man reject him, but he even debated with him. I guess it just goes to show that not every evangelism is successful. Like Jesus, there are those people that will reject us that is why in the midst of rejection, we must stand firm and not appear broken. I mean, Jesus did not only get rejected, he was killed!

After I've comforted him, we approached Janette and Jet who were already done evangelizing and were just telling stories with the people they've met. We sat beside them and just chatted.

In the middle of our conversation, I saw Colin and Benjamin approach us.

"Hey, guys! I heard you were evangelizing today. Mind if we join?" Benjamin said.

"Oh sure! We're almost done, though." I reply.

With that, we each started to search for people to evangelize. I again became silent and asked God. I don't want to be rejected again.

There.

I heard that as I set my gaze upon another woman who was carrying a big basket of food. She approached me and sold me some of her products. I happily bought a piece of rice delicacy. She put down her basket and rested beside me taking deep breaths.

I began evangelizing her and she participated. It was amazing because according to her, our conversation was the first that she's had this day. After our concluding prayer, she waved goodbye and left to sell her products.

As I was making my way back to the others, Charlie returned and asked "Hey, do you have food? I evangelized a woman over there and she's hungry. She hasn't eaten since breakfast."

He was all sweaty and was panting from all the running he's done. I check my bag to see the delicacy I bought and gave it to him. He thanked me and ran back. I walked back to the group who was already finished evangelizing.

I sat beside Denver and wiped the sweat from my forehead with my handkerchief. This day has been super tiring but fun!

Not so long after that, Colin approached me holding something behind his back.

"I have a surprise for you." He said.

"What?" I asked with a puzzled look.

He showed me the item he's been hiding and...

Wow.
