It's Friday today and it's finally dismissal time. Again, I have nothing to do and I don't go home until about 6 p.m. or so because the keys to our house are with my mom. 

I'm sitting on one of the steps of the stairs as of the moment while waiting for Denver to finish cleaning up the classroom. I was just scrolling through my phone when suddenly I felt some flesh touch my hair. I looked up to see that it was Gray.

"Hey, bro! You look so lonely! Haha! Well, I'm going home now. Bye, bro!" he said as he destroyed my hair. I waved back and gave me a smile. I watched as he walked, his figure getting unrecognizable as he gets further.

It was then that I realized that his birthday is next week.

I entered the classroom and grabbed Denver, excusing him from the rest of his members to talk about the important matter. Gray has never been surprised for his birthday before and maybe now's the time for him to finally get the feeling of being surprised for his birthday.

I gestured for Denver to sit on the floor and when he did, I did the same. "What's up?" he said, giving me a puzzled look. "It's Gray's birthday next week. I was thinking of surprising him. We have to do this. After all, we're his best friends." I told him. His eyes widened as he was hit with realization. Jeez. What kind of friend doesn't know his friend's birthday? Obviously Denver.

"So what are you planning?" he asked. I thought for a second and said "We have to get the entire class on board. Let's create a group chat later and talk about it." he nodded and then we parted ways.

Once I got home, I turned on my laptop and made a group chat with all my classmates (except Gray of course) included. I grabbed a pen and a piece of paper to write down the plans.

Vince: Hey guys! So as you may all know, Gray's birthday is coming up fast. We have to surprise him because he has never been surprised before. Denver and I need your full cooperation in order for this to work. 

Janette: Cool! I'm in! What are we supposed to do?

Denver: On the day before his birthday, the surprise will take place. His birthday is a national holiday so yeah. Better make it advanced.

Vince: Right. So what should we do?

Emily: I know! We should first ignore him until lunch. Let's create that intense feeling.

Ivory: I think that's a bad idea. Knowing Gray, he'll leave at lunch when he's not in the mood.

Denver: Then let's make him stay for lunch!

Janette: How do you suppose we do that?

Vince: When recess hits, Gray is always on the hurry to buy food at the canteen that he always leaves his wallet in his bag. Denver and I will get the wallet when he leaves the room.

Jet: I like that! But the problem is, he is always with the two of you when he goes to the canteen. Don't you think that he'll notice?

Denver: That's when the good part begins. The two of us will ignore him. He'll get curious and knowing him, he'll sneak up on us. We'll get Ariana to tell us if Gray is approaching us because her classroom is in the second floor which gives her a perfect view of the computer lab building. Once we're alerted, we'll pretend to talk bad about him. You know, mess him up a bit.

Ivory: Ariana's phone doesn't function well tho.

Vince: You go with her, Ivory. Text us when he is sneaking up on us.

Christina: Wow. You two really think that Gray would fall for that?

Denver: Of course, Tin! He's our best friend! If anyone can fool him, it's us!

Ivory: Exqueeze me!? You two aren't the only best friends he has!

Vince: Yeah, yeah. Whatever.

Denver: Okay so the next part is when he leaves at lunch.

Julia: What's the plan?

Vince: He'll leave in a hurry, that's for sure. He'll cross the pedestrian lane to wait for a jeepney and he'll notice that he doesn't have his wallet then he'll come back.

Julia: What if he just notices that the wallet is gone when he's near his house? Wouldn't that blow everything?

Denver: No, no. Gray doesn't ride a jeepney without checking his money first. 

Julia: Oh. So what happens while he leaves?

Vince: We set up the classroom. I talked to the creative people in our class to prepare a happy birthday sign. Once he leaves the room, we'll hang the sign and organize the food.

Julia: Who's in charge of the food?

Regina: We are! Vince and Denver are going to collect some contributions from the class to buy the food. We'll hid the food at Ariana's classroom and get them at lunch when he leaves. We may have less drinks because the cake takes up most of the budget.

Ivory: Nah. Ariana and I shall take care of the cake! We know his fave flavor! He'll flip when he sees it.

Vince: Okay then! We're all set for next week?

Ivory: Totes!

Julia: Yeah!

Jet: Uh-huh.

Janette: Yaaaaas.

Regina: Yas boo. Slay!

Denver: Great! Thanks for your cooperation guys! I'm so excited! Hahaha!

After our conversation, I shut off the laptop and went to sleep.

This is the day we're going to surprise him. I went to school early to remind everyone about the surprise and check if everything is set. Ally, Jet and Janette created a wonderful happy birthday sign, Regina, Christina and Karina hid the foods upstairs, Ivory and Ariana bought the cake and everyone knew what was the plan.

As we were all talking about our homework, Marielle suddenly entered the room. "Guys! He's coming! Get ready!" she alerted us. We all got ready to fall silent when he enters. After a few seconds, the door opened to reveal Gray. 

Let the games begin.
