Sophomore Year: Five

Sarada was hungover again. She'd been waking up hungover since the night of the dinner last week. Really hungover. So hungover that she would've told you the room was spinning before she opened her eyes.

She woke up with a brain-splitting migraine and her alarm clock didn't make it any better. She thanks God for drunk her because her blinds were drawn and there was a bottle of water and pain medication on her bedside table. She slapped her phone a couple of times until she hit the dismiss button and sat up. She dry swallowed the pills then drank the water in two gulps. Sarada knew today was going to be a long day.

Boruto watched as Sarada glided down the hall with the confidence he knew was an act. She was trying too hard and everytime a locker shut she flinched. Her eyes were covered by a pair of sunglasses that were, clearly, expensive, she had on a large gray sweater with a pair of black ripped jeans. She was wearing red uggs and her hair was up in a messy ponytail. He wanted to go see what was up with her but if the way things played out during dinner the week before and her avoiding him more than usual were any indications of their current relationship, he knew his worry was unwelcome.

"Boruto, you're staring again." Mitsuki chuckled as he walked up to the blonde. Boruto shrugged and turned to look at his best friend, the worried face he had becoming blank. Mitsuki smiled but didn't get one back, not that he was expecting to.

"I wasn't staring..."

"Then what were you doing?" Mitsuki asked as he leaned against the lockers with a quirked eyebrow. The blonde hadn't talked to him at all since the dinner and he was glad that the silent treatment was over. Boruto hesitated before shrugging again. His blue eyes wandered back to where Sarada was, only to see that she had disappeared.

"It's none of your business." He finally answered, never fully turning back to the other boy. Mitsuki started to respond but the bell rang. Boruto didn't stay to hear the response or say bye before he walked off to class. Mitsuki stared at the retreating figure and sighed in defeat. Not only had he lost Sarada but was he losing Boruto, too? The blunette ran a hand through his curls, his eyes falling shut in defeat. If they needed space, he'd give it to them. He just hoped this didn't last longer than it needed to. He pushed off the lockers and headed towards his class.
************
"You good?" Kobura asked as her cousin threw his bag on the floor and slammed his bedroom door shut.

"This is all your fault. And Yurui and life." He sat down with his chin in his hands.

"Jee, thanks." She gasped with fake hurt before rolling her eyes. She didn't care enough to ask what was up so she leaned back in her seat and started scrolling through her phone.

"Why do I even try?" Mitsuki continued, not realizing Kobura wasn't trying to be in this conversation.

"I don't know, I've stopped doing that a while ago."

"Sarada's a mess."

"Mmm." Kobura liked a post on Instagram.

"She's been drunk, high, or hungover everyday this week. I'm surprised no one's picked up on it yet."

"That's crazy."

"She's ignoring me again. But it's my fault for being a dick."

"Mhm."

"Boruto's a stalker. He knows where, when, and what Sarada is doing. He's obsessed, it's not healthy."

"Not at all." Kobura giggled at a video that played on her feed.

"I think I'm going to kidnap them and torture them until they admit they're in love with each other."

"Fun, fun."

"Yeah, you're not listening. Why am I not surprised." Mitsuki stood up and left the room, his cousin didn't notice because she was watching conspiracy theories on Youtube. Mitsuki was tired of all the drama. Why does becoming a teenager change so much? Unnecessary drama that he's so over with. He just wanted his friends back so everything could go back to normal. All his efforts, however, seem to be ignored or combabted. Maybe he should just stop trying, like Kobura. She seems so unbothered and has no stress. Mitsuki sighs for what feels like the hundredth time that day. "Yeah, I'm gonna stop trying. They don't need my help, so I should stop offering it and wasting my time."

He was fifteen, he didn't need this much stress. He most definitely doesn't want to die a premature death because his friends can't sit down and talk their issues out. He's done trying because both Sarada and Boruto seem to have stopped trying a while ago. They'll just have to figure it out on their own. He's surprised they survived the way they did with his absence because they're so used to him fixing everything. He's their glue but he won't be anymore. They're on their own this time. He needs to focus on himself and that's what he's going to do.
