Freshmen Year: Eight

Boruto was setting the last bowl of chips on the counter when Sumire walked in. She was carrying plastic bags with soda bottles.

"Where's the birthday girl and her parents?" She asked as she placed the sodas in the fridge. Boruto hugged her from ehind and sighed.

"Her dad's out of town and her mom took her to do some last minute birthday shopping." Sumire hummed before stepping away. Boruto tried to reach for her again but she stepped around the counter. "Hey. What's up?"

"Um-" The purple haired girl started but was stopped when the front door opened and a laughing Sarada and Sakura walked in. In their hands were a bunch of shopping bags. When they looked up they made eye contact with Boruto. Sarada sensed the awkward atmosphere but she smiled bright.

"I'll take your bags up to your room and then head over to Boruto's house. Don't mind me." Sakura said before leaving the three alone. Sarada's smile turned to a smirk.

"How's the lovely couple?" She asked as she walked over. She grabbed a potato chip with her perfectly manicures, white tips and threw it in her mouth.

"We're fine." Boruto blurted out quickly while Sumire looked away. Sarada saw this but made no comment.

"Bye guys!" Sakura yelled as she walked out the door.

"Bye mama. Love you!" Then the door closed. Sumire shuffled on her feet awkwardly. "Well, I'm going to go change. Don't mess anything up and thanks for doing this or whatever." Sarada gave the couple one last glance before rolling her eyes and heading up the stairs to her room. The awkwardness didn't lift but Sumire was saved from her boyfriend's questioning gaze when the doorbell rang, alerting them of the first guests.

"We'll talk later. I promise." Sumire rushed out as she went to open the door. Boruto sighed and grabbed a handful of doritos.
************
The party was in full swing. Everyone from their class was there, including people they've never talked to before. It was no surprise though, Sarada Uchiha was a popular girl. The music was loud and everyone was having fun.

"She's coming!" A girl shouted as she ran down theq stairs. The music lowered. Sarada rounded the banister to the top of the stairs. Her hair was up in a messy bun with loose strands framing her face. She was wearing black high-waisted jeans, a red crop top that said 'Birthday Queen' across the chest in golden glitter, and black platform sneakers.

"HAPPY FIFTEENTH BIRTHDAY, SARADA!" Everyone exclaimed. Confetti and balloons were thrown, airhorns were blown, and poppers were popped. The birthday girl smiled and walked down the steps. When she reached the last one, the crowd parted and Boruto walked forward with a cake in his hand. The candles were burning. The lights dimmed, the only faces seen were his and Sarada's. For the first time in months, they made eye contact. Boruto would've dropped the cake in fear if it wasn't for the way she looked at him. Her dark eyes were glowing, with an emotion he couldn't place, in the fire light.

Sarada froze when her eyes met Boruto's. Everything came rushing back and it felt like it was only the two of them there. Time was still until Sumire came up behind Boruto and placed her hands on his shoulders. She gave Sarada a smile.

"Make a wish, birthday girl." She whispered. Sarada blinked out of her haze and quickly blew out the candles. The crowd cheered and swallowed her up, making her loose sight of Boruto.

This night is going to. Be interesting.
************
Kobura looked around the hallway before slipping into the the bathroom. She locked the door as she removed the purple wig from her head. The wig cap she had under it was slightly damp from the sweat she was quickly accumulating from the crowded party.

"This is Sumire's last appearance. You can do this..." Kobura placed the wig back on and gave herself one last look with her artificially purple eyes. When she opened the door Mitsuki was standing there with a knowing look. However, the was no sympathy whatsoever. Only amusement. Kobura scowled in a very non Sumire way. "This still isn't funny."

"I didn't say it was." He responded as he handed her a red solo cup and they walked downstairs.

"Your face did." She replied as she roughly grabbed the cup, some of its contents spilling onto her hand. "Fu-."

"Hey, Sumire!" The cousins looked over to see Metal Lee struggling to open a bottle of Sprite.

"Uuuuuuu-Hi!" Kobura smiled turning on her Sumire voice.

"Can I get some help, please?" Metal asked as he attempted to twist the cap once more. She wanted to say no so badly but Sumire wasn't like that and Kobura hated it so much.

"Sure thing!"

"Thanks." Mitsuki chuckled quietly to himself but Kobura noticed. When she handed the opened bottle to Metal she went back to her cousin.

"I swear I'll have split personality disorder or something after this..."

"Don't joke about mental disorders, Cobra." Kobura rolled her eyes and chugged down the drink in her cup only to choke on its unexpected burning sensation.

"What the shit was that! Alcohol?" She whispered furiously. Mitsuki shrugged.

"Hey, you're acting like it's your first time. If I remember correctly, you drank a whole bottle of Hennessey on your thirteenth birthday. How it happened? I don't know. Why did Inot stop you? Because I like seeing you suffer."

"Dude, it was a dare and I was stupid."

"It still happened." Kobura shoved the cup into her cousin's hand.

"Who else?"

"Basically everyone at the party."

"Damn."
************
Sarada took up another cup and gulped it down. It was her fifth, possibly sixth, most likely eighth. Boruto was watch from the side while Yodo and Tarui cheered her on. They weren't as drunk as the birthday girl. They knew how to hold their own when it came to alcohol, their parents didn't care.

"Holy shit, S! Who knew you could drink like that?" Yodo gasped when Sarada started dancing around her, not stumbling at all.

"I don't know but I might take advantage of this new skill." The Uchiha answered with only a slight slur in her voice. "I'm gonna go see if there's more in the kitchen."

"Have fun." Tarui cheered after the girl. Boruto followed her as she pushed through the crowd of sweaty teenagers. When he finally caught up to her she was already opening a can of beer, or trying to. Sarada was fumbling and her nails weren't making it easier.

"Fuck." Boruto halted. He's never heard her curse before. They made eye contact. Sarada was sucking on her finger because it almost broke on the can.

"Lemme take that. I think you've had enough." The blonde tried as he reached for the can. Sarada pulled it back from his reach.

"No. Don't tell me when I've had enough! You don't know anything."

"I'm just tryna help y-"

"I don't need your goddamn help! I didn't need it when you decided to plan this stupid party with the purple haired idiot, who's hair is obviously dyed, and I most definitely don't need it now." Boruto took a step closer, still reaching for the beer.

"I'm sor-"

"You should be! You and everyone else have already replaced me with Little Miss Perfect!" Everyone near them got silent.

"Sara, everyone is watching us."

"I don't care let them watch, dumbass. Let them know about how my best friends ignored me for the new girl that barely knows you guys!"

"That's your fault. You changed up your look and started hanging out with them." Sarada blinked and it was as if she wasn't drunk at all. All the alcohol blur was gone from her eyes.

"Are you serious? I didn't know changing clothes made your friends stop talking to you." The crowd of people started getting bigger but neither of them noticed.

"It doesn't but-"

"All I did was walk into the building with him then we went our seperate ways. When I went towards you guys all you did was ignore me. For the rest of the day yall avoided me like the fucking plauge. Even Chouchou." When she said this Sarada looked right at the girl who somehow gravitated to the front of the crowd but she went right back to looking at Boruto. "And then I was like fuck it!" Sarada shouted as she slammed down the beer on the counter.

"We thought-"

"Real friends would've asked." The birthday girl was calm now. All the anger leaving from her face. Her face looked calm but she was giving off a scary aura. Then she smiled, the aura growing scarier. "But you have Sumire now."

"Sara-"

"Don't call me that anymore."

"We didn't mean-"

"Of course you didn't. Leave."

"But-" Boruto attempted to reach out to her but stepped around him, finally addressing the crowd.

"All of you, leave now." Everyone scattered and was out the door before Boruto could say another word. "I said now, Boruto." The Uzumaki let out a sigh and left. When he shut the door Sarada burst out into to tears. She fell to the floor and clutched her knees to her chest. Sarada spent the last hour of her birthday rocking herself in the middle of her dark kitchen.
************
When Sakura got back, the house was spotless. Nothing was out of place. Sarada was in her room asleep. Or that's what she thought. Sarada was crying with her baby blanket held tightly to her chest.

"Happy birthday to me."

And my eyelashes were neon green! Wowzers! I think this is my longest chapter in this book. I reached 1000 word. I haven't done that since the first book.
