Chapter IV

The doors to the Clock Tower creaked shut. Tatl examined the intricate patterns painted in the wood, and then turned back to Link. "I don't remember that much, but I think I'm beginning to understand some of your crazy talk."

Link smiled, "Well, perhaps you shouldn't doubt me so much." He traced the chipped paint, the Clock Tower had certainly been the entrance into this unknown.

"What do you expect me to believe? I'm not some gullible fool."

Link chuckled at that, "I beg to differ. I remember you being Skull Kid's pawn, or Majora's, I guess."

"Wait, wait, hold up." Tatl said. "I have no idea what you're talking about, just because I'm starting to recall some things doesn't mean I suddenly know everything."

"You'll understand soon."

The sun was beginning to fade into the horizon.

"I sure hope so."

"What do you remember?" Link inquired.

"Well, I know you. You're the one Skull Kid told us to attack. And I remember the Carnival of Time, but... The moon is going to kill us all."

"Yeah the moon does that a lot."

"Link, I can help you, but we need to stop the moon!"

"What?" Link asked. "It's almost night, the first night. That gives us two days. Let's just do it next time."

"Next time?"

"I told you, it's a curse. You'll keep moving forward, but after the three days are up I'm forced back. If you stay with me though... Maybe then you'll feel the curse too."

"No matter what you say, I can't believe that, it's too absurd." Tatl said. "But I want to help you, I just--we need to save Skull Kid and Tael first."

"Did I ask for your help?"

This took the small fairy by surprise, "Don't you want to go home? I can probably find some way to be of help."

"I'm pretty sure you just want to use me to save your friends. I don't blame you."

"I'm not just using you! I remember what I did to you in the forest, and even if those memories feel as if they happened in another timeline I--I still feel the guilty for them."

"Those memories you have did happen."

"I can tell that much, I just don't know when."

"It was ten years ago, in the Lost Woods, you abused me with your brother and stole my ocarina." Link told her.

"So this time loop you claim..."

"It's real. Your memories can serve as some type of proof, I suppose." Link nodded. "You remember things that didn't happen to you, but they happened to me."

"Wait so... What you're saying is that you're the only one stuck in a time loop or whatever, and everyone else is just moving forward?" Tatl asked for verification.

Link nodded. "From what I can tell. The only reason you even had memories of that buried in your mind was because you went through time with me, at least you did for a while."

"Oh."

"I guess you can stick around, it's better than being alone." Link shrugged.

"I--thanks. I have no where else to go."

"What happened that separated you anyways?"

"Oh, I guess I got distracted and they left me." Tatl replied. "We've gotta save them Link, we gotta save Termina."

"It's going to be fine," Link laughed. "I told you that already."

"But the moon!"

The moon hung low in the sky, peering down into Clock Town. It was set to destroy, to consume all of the residents here and in any neighboring places.

It threatened everyone, a valid reason to fear.

"And?"

"Can we at least look for Skull Kid and Tael to make sure they're alright? I can't completely trust you, I barely even remember anything."

Link sighed, "Well that's reasonable. Annoying, but I would do the same thing in your position. Alright."

"...thank you."

Link took off, leaving the center of town to help Tatl. He had already known where they were, so it wasn't much of a search for him. For Tatl, however, it was important. In a way, that made it important to Link too. She had traveled with him, albeit her memories of it are vague, but he grew to like her.

Town was just like Link remembered, he'd seen these few days so many times after all. There was still a few days till the moon fell, so people here were lively. They would flee soon.

Link led Tatl to an alleyway, blocked by a young child. Link's eyes softened, he has always felt for these boys. They didn't even have anywhere to go after everyone else has fled, a troupe of kids feigning toughness in the midst of danger.

"Halt! Jim said I can only let members in."

Link replied, "23541." He had known this code ever since he first traveled here, he wouldn't be so foolish as to forget.

"Oh, so you are a member," the boy marched to the side, allowing Link and Tatl to enter the alley.

"Thank you," Link said as the proceeded.

The place was dark and murky, sewer waters squishing in the bottom of Link's boots.

"I'm glad I'm a fairy," Tatl laughed.

Link scowled at this, "Well I'm not the one who decided to make the observatory entrance the sewers."

"Observatory?"

"Yeah, that's where I'm taking you."

"But why?" Tatl buzzed in front of Link as he jumped on some platforms to avoid the dirty waters.

"You ask to many questions."

They continued into a large room, a Link popped the balloon placed by the bomber children with ease.

After climbing the ladder the balloon had blocked the dark colors of the walls changed into vibrant colors.

A cheerful straw man stood to greet them, ready to spill secrets.

Link walked right passed this, it was a rather messy scene with boxes piled everywhere and old trinkets covered in dust.

Tatl zoomed right past Link.

"Where are you going?" Link jogged up a vibrant staircase behind her.

"They must be here right? That's why you took me here."

Link reached the top of the stairs, a telescope and an old man in the center of the room. "Well, not exactly."

"Oh, you must be one of the bomber kids. Want to take a look?" The old man advised Link, not having taken notice of Tatl.

Link motioned for Tatl to look.

"Link, I really don't see a point to this," Tatl mumbled, but did it anyways.

The old man was a bit shocked a fairy flew over instead of Link, but after his initial shock said, "Young miss, you can zoom in. Do you see anything of interest?"

Tatl shot back, away from the telescope. "Link!"

"I know," he laughed. "Want to go?"
