It was 9:00 pm,I was in my room doing my homework. When a rattle on the window made me jump. I opened the curtains to see Tom standing on a ladder. "What are you doing out here?" I asked. "I'll tell you if you come down." He replied. "Alright ." I said. I climbed down the ladder. Sun and Tim were here as well. "What are you all doing out here?" I asked. Tim straightened up and said, "My brother and I have decided to challenge you to a nighttime walk through the forest." "Unless, you to much of a chicken to accept it." Tom added. I accepted it, I would never miss a challenge.
Especially, when the boy is going to chicken out. "Not a single one of our parents must know about this." Sun stated. "Agreed." We all replied. We walk to the forest.
   It was dark, there was some light from the setting sun. The forest was a lovely place, but at night it was like an haunted forest. We walked through the trees, crunching on leaves. "This isn't to bad, what's the point of going out here?" Sun asked. "There is rumor that a monster roams in the forest at night." Tim said in a spooky voice. "Monster, really Tim, we are not five-year-olds." I said. "Hey it could be true." Tom protested. "I don't believe in monsters." I said. All of a sudden, a loud coughing moan occurred. We all  jumped back. Tom and Tim screamed and ran. "That sounded more like a wounded animal." I thought. Sun was about to run but I grabbed her arm. "Let go, this thing is getting to scary!. She exclaimed. "Hey, it could be a wild animal that's hurt, we need to go help it." I said. "Okay." She said nervously. We walked through the forest, following the moaning sounds. Sun followed close behind me. We came across a old, dry, creek bed, in the middle of it was a deer on the ground. I looked at it, the deer had a big bite mark on its neck. It had gotten infected and had flys all over it. It was still alive, barely. "Let's go, we can't save it." Sun begged. "What would do this and leave it?" I said. I looked into it's  eyes, pain filled it. It let out another moan."oh, poor baby." I said to it. As I was reaching out to touch it, a loud thump and snapping of branches. I darted underneath a dead oak, Sun hid behind a tree.
    The stomping got closer and closer. Then it stopped, whatever it was it snorted and started to eat the deer. "Gross."  I thought. It stopped eating, the sound of sniffing filled the air. It walked over to where I was hiding. I got a good look at it. Standing four times bigger than me, it had scales and a lizard like body. It was black as night. It had wings too, they had small sliver scales that looked like stars. It gazed at where I was hiding. I was praying that it would not notice me. It snorted and walked off. I crept out of my hiding place. Sun came to help me up. "We are going home right now." I said. "Good idea." Sun replied. I got up and froze. There was something behind us, something big. I turned my head and saw the same beast looking at us."RUN!" I screamed. We blasted off running as fast as we could. The monster roared and charged at us. I was rushing thought brambles and get hit in the head with branches. I didn't dare stop.
Then something grabbed me. I was about to let out a scream but a hand cupped my mouth. "Shush." An old voice said. The beast rushed right past us. The man that was holding me let go and I turned around. I looked at an old, white haired man with a grim expression. "Who are you and what was that thing?" I asked. "I will tell you my name when we get to my house, but for the second question, that... was a dragon." He answered. "A dragon? But they...." I said. " I can explain when we get to my house, where it's safe." He said. I nodded and walked with him.
We walked to an old brown house. He opened the door and I came in. He showed me to a table. Sun was sitting there. " Sun!" I cried. She cried as well and we both hugged. "Well now let's sit down, and talk about what happened." He said. I sat down. "Okay, I'm Paints Grandfather." He said. "You are?" Sun said. "What was that thing back there, dragons don't exist." I said. "Well you just saw one." He said. " well it could have been a trick of the light or this could just be a dream." I said. "Elizabeth, I wish there was a better time to explain but there isn't. So lat me tell you this, dragons exist." He said. "I'm just confused...."I said. "Come on let's go home." Sun said. "Okay." I said and we went out the door. We walked home, and I walked inside my house. Luckily my parents weren't home yet. I went upstairs and went to bed.
