46.4:"The strangers".

"You know I said that so he can leave. I am sorry if I stirred more problems". He said after he watched that man leave

"You didn't stir anything". She said shrugging, "But now you just took a pass to take what life gives me to come to you too".

"You mean that man?". He asked snickering, "I can take him down just fine".

"Ek toh tumhari akar hai na kum nahi hoti". (This- your arrogance never gets less)

"Kyun karoon mai kum?. Ab apni tareef mai nahi karoon ga toh aur kon kary ga?". (Why will I lessen it?. If I won't praise myself who will?)

"Kis liye zarorat hai tumhae apni tareef karny ki?". She asked as she turns to open her house door (Why do you need to praise yourself?)

"Kisi ki nazaro mai ana chahta hoon, meri saadgi dekh mai kia chahta hoon". He said mumble as she went inside (I want to be seen in someone eyes, look at my simplicity what I want)

"What are you going to do now?". She asked standing in the doorway, "You haven't rested well in two days".

He shrugged, "I am fine staying outside here".

She looks at him concerned, "But, it's cold".

"I can handle the cold just fine. I don't look tough but I have been in worse conditions". He said smiling as he watches her still frowning in concern

"You didn't sleep well too". She added

"I can stay awake for a week without a problem". He said softly

"True. Once, I had competition with my husband about who can stay awake the longest". A beautiful smile graced her lips

"Who won?". He asked watching the different shine on her face as she remembers her time with her husband

"Obviously, he did. I barely functioned properly after the second night and he was the one teasing me--". She started but cut herself off when she remembers she was sharing about her husband

"Why did you stop?". He asked confused

"I shouldn't be talking about him". She said sighing

"If it makes you happy, why not?". He asked and she shrugged walking inside coming back with a pillow and a comforter handing it to him

"If you are cold and it gets hard, knock on the door, ok?". She said pressuring her words so he calls her, "Don't hesitate".

"This is new". He commented watching as the confusion overtake her features, "You worrying about me".

"You helped me, Badar". She said smiling as she went back inside leaving him with his thoughts

He sits under the window occasionally looking around the house to make sure no one enters inside.

Suddenly the window opens startling him as he sits upright to find her standing there. He felt his throat dried as he looks at her sleepy bare face and puffy cheeks that have a slight blush on them.

"You are done sleeping already?". He asked as she forwards him a big mug of hot tea in this cold night he was craving

"I told you I sleep for a couple of hours". She said shrugging, "You didn't sleep?. Do you want to sleep in?".

"I don't think it's appropriate". He said softly as he drinks the tea making him feel warm

"I will carry a knife with me just in case I have to use it". She said smiling

He chuckles shaking his head, "You know you are weird".

"Come on in". She said moving to open the door as she navigates him through the dark towards the empty room

She went back to her room working on some of her things as she has to prepare for work for tomorrow. She heard the sound of someone screaming and instantly she went in a panic thinking someone came in until she realised the sound is from him.

She took slow steps towards the room she let him be to find the sound getting louder. She gently opens the door peaking inside to find him whimpering in his sleep and with his hand on the place where his leg used to be at, she knows exactly what he must be dreaming about.

His last moments of when he saw his leg before it was gone.

She stayed there thinking about what she can possibly do for him but there wasn't anything she could actually do so she went inside the room leaving the door wide open as she sits beside his bed on a chair humming a soft tone until she finds him relaxing. She continued to hum as he sleeps in more peace this time and she fell asleep on the chair.

He opens his eyes feeling the sunlight entering inside the room making him groan. But the first thing his eyes fell on when he opened them was her sleeping on the chair in front of him.

His heart starts to beat rapidly as she continued watching her head dangling from side to side while she sleeps.

He closes his eyes when he finds her stirring in her sleep as he waits for her to leave. She opens her eyes watching him sleeping with the comfort off him so she went to place it properly before shutting the curtain leaving the room.

She went to her room preparing for the day and made his breakfast placing it on the table. She looks at the time as she rushes out of the house towards the one place she wants to go after her dream yesterday.

She enters inside the cemetery walking towards Meer's grave with his favourite flowers as she set them down on his grave. She doesn't even know why she comes here for anymore. She shouldn't even come here but she just felt this is the only place, she could feel him.

She sighs, "You told me to look at things differently. You asked me to do more and I don't know what you meant by that. If you want me to do something or if there is some way for me, show me so I know. Make my heart turn to it so I can be drawn to it. Tell me what it is, please".

"I told you to not come here alone". She heard Badar's voice as she turned to him shocked, "Do I look like a ghost that you are looking at me like this?".

"I-I-". She stuttered as she stands from her position, "You told me you will protect me".

He smiles beautifully making her heart shake for the first time in forever, "I tend to keep my promises".

"There goes your bragging ruining the mood". She said rolling her eyes as she pushes past him, "Who do you come here for?".

"My Baba Jaani". He said smiling as he thinks about him, "I couldn't spend much time with him so now that I have time, I feel like I should spend it even if it's in this way".

"Why don't you look sad or anything when you speak of him?. Why are you always smiling even when sharing a painful memory of your father?". She asked genuinely as she sits in the taxi with him following behind, "And why are you entering in my taxi?".

"I will send you off to work, I have some work at orphanage later". He said smiling, "And I don't want to remember him in pain. I want to remember him in those precious smiles, those words and the things he taught me in his time with me. He wouldn't like me remembering him in a painful memory. Even if his death was painful, he can stay in my memory as a happy man who loved me not a man who died for his country because that's how other people will remember him".

She nodded stopping at her workplace as she leaves to the office while he waits for her to head in before he left for the orphanage.

He enters inside to find everyone busy in their room so he went to the owner office where she has called him.

"You are here". The owner said smiling, "How have you been?. I didn't get to ask that last time since you were busy with your fighting".

He chuckles, "I am doing good. Better these days".

"You look like better too". The owner said smiling, "I got an offer so I was wondering if you wanted to take a chance!?".

"What is it?". He asked taking the leaflet from her hand watching a teacher required to teach self-defence, "Do you think they will want someone like me?. I don't look that trustworthy".

"They are someone I know from long ago so I spoke to them explaining everything beforehand". The owner said softly, "I thought you could use this opportunity to do something and maybe make something of yourself".

He smiles, "I guess I can do it".

"I didn't think you will agree after almost rejecting every other offer". The owner said taken back, "How come you are in this offer?".

"I didn't have a reason to do anything before". He said as he turns the leaflet in his hand, "I have a reason now".

"Did you meet Sanam after that day?". The owner asked sitting on her chair

"Did you call me here on purpose that day?". He asked

The owner smiles, "I thought you two can lean on one another a little to lessen the burden you are carrying by yourself".

"I have to say I am thankful for it". He said smiling, "If I have a chance to do something for her, don't worry I will do it in a second".

"Don't die on her". The owner said sadly, "That's the only thing I can ask from you after watching her suffering all these years".

"That's not in my hands but I can pray that my Lord doesn't do that to her again". He said smiling as he leaves the orphanage to find the place he is supposed to teach

He finds the school after a short time which is near her workplace so it is convenient. He didn't want to work before because the money he gets from the army relief pack was enough to feed him and that is it.

Now he needs to earn so he has something to offer to her if he wants to pursue her. He doesn't have any saving or anything for her. What does he even have to deserve her?.

For the first day, he was just introduced to everyone while they all ask for his story which he explained briefly and it isn't even something new. He learned to hide his emotions back in his army days so it isn't much of an issue if he has to speak about his haunting experience without any emotions involved.

Since they all seem impressed he exits his workplace slowly heading to her workplace. He waits outside for quite some time after he spoke to the guard about the closing of the office.

She exits her office and her phone doesn't stop ringing with her husband's mother and brother calls. She just wishes they would leave her alone for some time until she figures her new path.

She halts when she finds him standing in the cold trying to warm his hands as he shivers in his oversized jacket. It must have been 8 hours since she last saw him, how long did he wait here?.

As she starts to take another step someone stepped in her line of vision and since she was mainly focused on the man waiting for her, she didn't realise until a tight slap restored to her face as she fell from the impact of it.

She feels her eyes closing as her head hit something and her name being called in the distance.

He watches her fell as he runs to her as fast as he possibly could only to find her on the floor. He turns to Usman standing there shocked and he felt the burning raged he had never felt before inside of him as he held Usman collar punching him repeatedly just how he had learned in his army days.

It wasn't until someone called the police and an ambulance and she was taken away while he was pulled away from a bloody Usman, that he came back to his senses as he sits beside her in the ambulance while they place the oxygen mask on her.

He saw the bleeding on her head which only made him anxious as he tries to stay in his sense but everything is simply betraying him.

She was taken in the emergency room.

He stayed behind limping around in worry of her health. He feels the fear inside of him as she imagined losing her before he even took another step towards her and that's when he realised how it must be for her to lose the love of her life without even having a moment with him.

The fear, the need, the promises and everything that one dreamed off breaking apart in a few seconds isn't easy to move on from.

The doctor came out informing that she made in after five long painful hours of his darkest thoughts. She needed rest for two days before she could continue to her usual life. He groaned holding his head because the worry from earlier and the ease from knowing she made it had him tired and a headache forming.

He went to pay the hospital but he didn't have enough money to do that so he thought of the way he can have some money. He went back to her home, looking through his luggage when he finds the awards he collected in his school and army days. He went back out selling them collecting as much money as he could and a little money he has on him paying the bills.

He really didn't have anything to deserve her.

The more he thinks the more he starts to move away from her. Why would he complicate her life with himself?.

Maybe he shouldn't.

The next day she opens her eyes feeling a pain in her head as she looks around only to find him sleeping on the chair. She looks around the hospital then back at him because hospital bills are always skyrocketing.

How did he pay them?.

She starts to worry about the cost when he opens his eyes and a smile which didn't look good appear on his face.

"What have you done?. How did you pay?". She asked stressed, "Don't tell me you did something you shouldn't have".

"Allah! Kitni tension layti ho tum". He said jokingly, "Kuch bhi nahi kia maine bus cheezein thi, beech di".

(God! You stress so much) (I didn't do anything big I had few things, I sold them)

"Konsi cheezein?". (What things)

"Medals".

Her eyes widen because she has her husband medal in her house and close to her heart, "Damag kharab hai tumhara?. Kyun kia yeh?. Woh tumhari mehnat ki--".

(Are you out of your mind?. Why did you do that?. That was your hardwork-)

"Sanam". He said pausing her mental breakdown, "Tumhari jaan se zayada zarori kuch nahi tha. Cheezein toh zindagi mai ati jaati rahy gi agar tum chali jaati toh mai kia karta?".

(Nothing was important than your life. Things comes and go in life but if you were taken away from me, what was I supposed to do?)

"Woh kyun?. Meri jaan se tumhara kia vasta?".

(Why?. What do my life have to do with you?)

"Sahi mai. Vasta hona nahi chahiyeh tha. Mujhe pehle he sochna chahiyeh tha yeh sub". He said shaking his head, "per kia karoon k dil nae sochny ka mauka he nahi diya, k woh khud he is raste per chalna shoro ho gaya?. Khuda k kaam bhi bohat ajeeb hoty hain. Hum mile ajeeb se, hum saath rahy ajeeb se aur ab yaha hai ajeeb se situation mai".

(True. I shouldn't have any connection with your life. I should have thought about all of this before) (but what do I do that my heart didn't allow that, that it starts to walk on this way on it's own?. God works is strange. We met in weird situations, we stayed in strange circumstances and now this is even more weird situation)

"Mujhe kuch samjh nahi a raha?. Yeh kia bol rahy ho?. Kuch howa hai?. Tum theek toh ho?".

(I don't understand what you are saying?. What do you mean?. Something happened?. Are you ok?)

"Agar jeene ka poch rahi ho toh haan jeen loon ga. Agar yeh poch rahi ho k jee sukoon se loon ga, toh us ka kuch kah nahi sakta mai".

(If you are asking will I be able to live, then yes I can. If you are asking if I will be able to live in peace, I can't be sure about that)

"Badar, kia howa hai?". (Badar, what happened?)

"Tum". He said looking at her, "Tum ho jo mere pass ayi aur sub kuch badal gaya. Ab mai kia karoon?. Mujhe kuch samjh nahi a rahi. Tumhae khona mai bardasht nahi kar sakta aur tumahe hasil karny k liye mere pass kuch hai nahi".

(You). (You came to me and eveything changed. What do I do now?. I don't know what to do. I can't lose you and I can't have you because I don't have anything for you)

"Mujhe hasil karna?". (To have me?)

He chuckles because he is losing his mind every minute, "Mujhe tum achi lagti ho, Sanam". (I like you, Sanam)

"What?".

"I want to be with you". He said smiling sadly, "But I don't have anything to have you".

She tilts her head looking at the sadness lacing his eyes that she has in her eyes all the time.

"I want to go to the cemetery". She said as he nodded

She sits in front of Meer's grave looking at it.

"You showed the way, Meer". She said softly placing her hand over the sand of his grave, "I will take it for you".

She moves to the side when he came back with the flowers she asks for. She takes the flower placing them on the grave beside her husband's.

"Who is this?". He asked confused

"This was my son. He was born dead". She said sadly as she looks at her son's grave
