Have a blessed Friday.
She wasn't least interested especially at such time to worry why Humna needed to know about her existence in her own house. So, she leaves them to do what they want which was him closing the door on her face and her hiding her smile.
She looked at Shariah sleeping peacefully and Shaikhah looking around in the house. She holds Shariah hand which were cold warming them. She hated how because of her heart she never truly enjoyed her life. Her food and playing was lessened because of it.
"How did you find them?". He asked softly holding Shariah sleeping body on his lap
She looked at him blinking her eyes, "You didn't find it out?".
"What? You want me to know something so important from other people instead of you?". He asked
She shakes her head comprehending her answer, "After I left-". She pauses looking at his pain expression, "I mean after everything I went to that part of the town because of the scenery I used to look at in my free time. I had enough money and plan so I bought the bakery. After a year, one day it was late at night when I found some sounds outside my bakery. That was until, I stepped outside to find two young girls standing there alone holding each other hands. One looked broken while others looked hurt but still holding on".
"Then?". He said controlling his anger
"Obviously, I took them in and then for a month we tried to find their parents. But, we came to know soon that they were...". She took a deep breath,"..Abandoned by their parents and no one was going to take them in beside orphanage. The day they came to know about orphanage I could look in their eyes the fear they hold with their insecurities. So, I asked them to hand their responsibility to me since I still had your name- it was easy".
Most of the part he was sore but he smiled at the last line, "So, they have my last name?".
She nodded, "They have your name, Ibrahim".
"Shaikhah Ibrahim and Shariah Ibrahim". He repeated their name on his tongue
He liked the sound of it and the way his heartfelt content.
"Arib Ibrahim". He said smiling looking at her
That was the best sound.
"Why do you think our parents abandoned us?". Shariah asked Shaikhah as they were doing their work
Shaikhah shrugged, "I don't want to think why they did it when they didn't even think before doing anything".
"But-". Shariah said
"Do you see how much Ammi is doing for you maybe even more than what she does for me. Then, why can't you forget our parents who left us?". Shaikhah said, "I am grateful that I found new parents who are better".
"I am scared they might leave me because I am sick". Shariah said sadly
"Do you really think I will leave my child because she is sick?". Arib said walking inside with their snacks
Shariah looked at Shaikhah for help but she shrugged moving away.
"Shariah". Arib said softly, "Some parents are cruel to their own children and no one can make sense of it. The more we think about them the more we suffer. But, the true parents are not the one who leaves their child in pain but the one who stays with them no matter what. I may not be your real parents and I never intend to be one but all I want to be is your someone you could trust".
"I trust you, Ammi". Shariah said
Arib kissed her forehead, "I know, Meri Jaan (my life)".
Shaikhah sat in the garden looking at the sky alone until he sat beside her.
"What's wrong?". He asked softly
She sighs, "Sometimes I feel Ammi love me less".
"Why is that?". He asked confused
"Because Shariah is always her priority". She replied looking at her hands, "I know she is not well and she is also my sister. I feel bad about thinking this way but-".
He holds her into a tight hug, "How about you be my first priority?".
She pulled back smiling and nodding.
She placed her hand on Shariah head gently making a circle. Her heart aches each time she feels her body being weak all she wishes was her body being stronger.
"Why are you sad?". He asked sitting beside her holding her hand
She sighs, "Will she be fine?".
He held her hand tighter even he was scared maybe more than her, "Yes, she will be. All we have to do is be strong, wait and pray for her".
"I just want her to be better". She whisper
"She will be". He said, "What about their parents?".
"I don't know and I don't want to know. You have no idea how much she suffers because of them. Shaikhah was still stronger and willing to live she looked broken and so lost. I couldn't even make sense for her why her parents did what they did". She said angrily
"What if-". He started
"No, I don't want to talk about any "if". She said
"You know you have changed!?". He asked
"For the better". She said walking out of the room with her hand still in his
He nodded smiling, "For the better. And they are exactly like you. You used to be simple, sweet and just go around and now you are stronger and know what you want".
"Which one do you like?". She asked curiously
He grinned, "I love both of them. They make you, you".
She hides her grin but she would be lying if her heart didn't skip a beat. It was like those old times they would be looking at one another or a simple word from him would have his heart skip beats.
She always liked it.
She briefly wondered if the pain in her heart is to be shared and that pain had her pull herself away from him and moving in other direction leaving his calls for her.
He watched her walk away and he could swear he saw something in her eyes. Maybe, he miscalculated what he did wrong to her. Maybe, there was more to it than he knows. But, he was sure that was what had been stopping her.
What is he missing?.
They sat at the breakfast each feeding a girl who is happily eating in their own world. Shariah placed a hand over her chest in pain that had Arib worried.
She sat on her knees in front of her, "Is it hurting?".
"Just a little". Shariah said painfully
"The doctor said that it will hurt her some time. I think it's better if she stays home for now". He said smiling tightly
She nodded, "Shaikhah, would you like to stay in?".
Shaikhah nodded walking into her mother hand, "I don't want to leave Shariah".
She kissed her cheeks, "Eat your food then you can play".
"What is it?". She asked as she walked inside his office
He sighs, "I know you told me you don't want to know about their parents-".
"I don't want to hear it". She said angrily
"No, listen, they are searching for them". He said halting her steps
She turned around shocked, "Looking for them after all these years?".
He nodded taking steps closer to her holding her to himself, "They are looking for them to take them back and I heard they already know because of your moving here that they know they live here".
Her heart stopped as she held onto him, "No, they cannot take them, Ibrahim. They can't take another child away from me".
"What?". He said confused, "What another child?. Who took who?".
Her eyes widen as she stepped away from him.
"I-It's nothing-". She started
He holds her hand pulling her back to him, "What do you mean?".
"You don't know?". She whispers confused
"What is that I don't know?". He asked
"That day I left there was some paper on the table. Did you look at them?". She asked
He pulled away from her angrily, "Yes, I did. I will never divorce you, Arib".
She gasped, "What divorce?. There was no such paper. There was the one last picture of our baby".
His heart stopped as he looked at her falling on the ground with tears falling down her face.
"What?". He said barely audible as he sat in front of her holding her face
"We were going to have a baby but you were so busy so I wasn't able to tell you anything. Then, you went on a trip and I started having a problem with my health and then-". She paused, "Then, he passed away".
His eyes widen as he registered the information slowly.
He had a baby.
He lost it.
They lost it.
"He died?". He asked and she nodded, "I had no idea. I never saw any paper. That day I came late and..".
"And?". She asked
"I think I know what happens to those paper". He said standing on his feet holding her hand making her stand too, "I have to go but I promise this is the last time I will ever leave you at last hours. I will never ever neglect you for work. I am so sorry for everything, my love".
He walked inside Hamna house looking at his external relative after so long. Hamna was supposed to be married to him since they were the only family left of him he didn't say much in beginning but he was never interested in her nor he gave any signs.
He even ran away for his studies so he wouldn't have to deal with her for years. That was how he found his wife and he was more than thankful for the suffering he bears to be away from Hamna.
"What is it?". Hamna father asked
He looked at him, "You know I respect you right?".
Hamna father nodded knowing it was serious as Ibrahim continued looking at Hamna, "Where is the paper?".
Hamna looked at him shocked but covered it, "What are you talking about?".
"Where are those paper, Hamna?". He asked again
"I don't know-". She started
"Bring them". Hamna father ordered
Hamna walked away and Hamna father looked at Ibrahim, "I don't know what those paper are but I am guessing they mean the most to you".
He nodded merely.
He sat in his car as tears filled his face looking at the picture in his hand. Even if the baby was barely visible to know that he ever existed and he never even knew hurt him the most.
Maybe, he wasn't a good father.
"It wasn't your fault". She said softly sitting inside his car
"How do you always find me?". He asked chuckling lightly
She shrugged, "You are predictable".
He shakes his head, "It was my fault. I made everyone suffer even our unborn child".
"He had to go and we had to break, Ibrahim". She said holding his hand
"Why?". He said trying to stop himself from crying
"Because if we didn't break then we wouldn't have found two beautiful girls who needed us the most. We wouldn't have been sitting here in your car thinking about what we did wrong and what we will do in future. Our time stopped back then but our world was running. We were weakened back then, Ibrahim that was why we had to be away. If we didn't we could have ended up being worse". She said smiling
He smiled, "Did I tell you that you have changed?".
She grinned, "A couple of time".
He chuckles, "I take it back you are still the same philosopher".
"Haha". She said rolling her eyes moving back and out of the car
He quickly leaves the car moving to her side holding her hand and pulling her back to him with no distance in between.
"So?". He asked playing with a strand of her hair
"Well, for starter, we have to go back home because your friend isn't our children guardian". She said softly smiling
He smiled, "I like the sound of our children".
"Of course, you do. You lost your mind when you saw them". She said pushing him away as she walks
He laughed holding her hand walking by her side, "That was love at first sight".
"Sure. Love at first sight". She said
"You cannot blame me. I met you after so long with two kids". He said defensively
"I would love to see that expression on your face again". She said laughing
"It's not funny". He said softly narrowing his eyes
"Ibrahim". He heard his friend say as they stopped in front of their house
"What is it?". They both asked
"There is someone-". His friend started but they walked inside
She saw two people sitting in the lounge who looked similar.
"Who are you?". She asked confused
"We are the parents of the kids you have taken". The man- Ahmed said
Ibrahim holds her hand when he feels her shaking.
"Taken?. You are the one who left them". He said angrily, "What right do you have to enter our house like this?".
"I don't care what we did when we were desperate. We need them back and they are our child. You cannot separate us". The woman - Jahra said
"They were your children who you left when you were desperate now they are our kids. So, leave before I call the police on you". Arib said angrily
"You cannot do this". Jahra yelled as they walked out
"There is no way she is taking my children". She said angrily
"Our children". He said smiling
"Yes, yes, our children". She said rolling her eyes, "But, what do have in plan?".
"How do you know I have something?". He asked
"I said it before too, you are too predictable, my dear husband". She said pinching his cheeks
He grinned, "Fine. But, it depends on you".
"We never left our children she took them". Jahra yelled at the policeman
"Here". Arib said forwarding her hand with a flash drive
They all looked at the footage of a few years back where they saw their real parents stopping and leaving them there.
"It is clear who is the one who is wrong. Do you have something more to say?". Policeman asked
Jahra shakes her head.
"I have". Ibrahim said moving forward, "I never want to see them around my house or kids. I want full custody on paper saying that they will never try to pull this act again".
"You came prepared". Arib said moving close to him
"I guess, I am not too predictable". He said chuckling
"You know they are not your real parents. You are just a burden to them". They heard Hamna angry voice
They both took a step inside their house to find Hamna with their kids as they looked ready to cry.
"Which one are you?". Hamna said holding Shaikhah shoulder
They took a step forward to stop her but Shariah pushed her away from Shaikhah before them standing in front of her.
"You are not being nice". Shairah said upset, "Our parents love us and we love them. They don't have to be our real parents they love us more than them or they would have left us too. Don't make my sister cry".
Hamna raised her hand but before she can hit any of the kid her hand was stopped by Arib.
"I told you to stay away from us. Didn't I?". She said angrily pushing her hand away," Or is your small brain not able to process a small thing?".
"You-". Hamna started
"Leave our house, Hamna and never come for my family again". Ibrahim said holding Shariah in his hand while Arib hold Shaikhah
She holds Shaikhah in her lap playing with her hair, "Do you think I love you less?".
Shaikhah shakes her head, "No, Abbu told me that you love us all but Shariah needs you more so I made a deal with him".
"What deal?". She asked confused
"He said since you are booked for Shariah he will be booked only for me". Shaikhah said grinning happily
"No way, he can't love you more than me". She said with fake anger
"Yes, I can". He said smiling as he walked in with Shariah
"Abbu". Shaikhah squeal running to him
His eyes widen, "D-Did she just called me..".
"Abbu". She said nodding
He grinned happily flying Shaikhah in the air as she laughed.
"Will she make it?". She said holding her hands tightly looking at the white ceiling
He sighs holding her shoulder pulling her to himself, "She will make it".
She nodded.
They heard the door opening and the doctor walked out looking at them.
"She made it". Were the words that had their eyes tearing up
"You should be listening to me". She said angrily
"There is no way I am listening to you". He said horrified
"I am the one who is carrying your baby so you better be listening good mister". She said gritting her teeth, Eat this chip with mayonnaise or I will kill you".
"I don't want to eat it". He whined to which his girls giggle, "You think it's funny?".
Shaikhah and Shariah nodded.
"It's not that bad, Abbu". Shariah said laughing at her father expression
To both, Arib and Ibrahim, it was a blessing that her life was granted again to be better. They saw a different girl coming out of the surgery. She started talking, laughing and playing around which they couldn't get used to.
"I am doing this because my girls said it, not because of you". He said eating the chips
"See, I told you it's tasty". She said grinning
He wanted to say 'no' but he gulped the chips down looking at her beaming face that always had his heart skip a beat.
Even after years, their children remain growing but they all grew together. To this day, they never brought the past in between them again and started fresh.
He was always in love with the woman he had found by faith and to this day he still loves her and each day even more.
She had never stopped loving him even after the pain. The pain was a way she always remembered him but each day he had been on her mind and her love depended evermore.
They loved each other even more.
Struggling are meant to be there, the one who fought them are the one who stays forever.
That was them.
Arib and Ibrahim.
