Prologue
Sands squelched between Surf's talons and a cold breeze swelled her nostrils and gills. She coiled her tail and slapped the water. White sand drifted in the sun and illuminated purple and blue scales. The fish-like fin on the end of her tail swayed in the current. Where was Barracuda? Was she too early? Gold and silver scales flashed in front of her violent eyes. Who was their? Who would dare to be on her territory?
A tall sleek dragon, about ten years younger than her strode across the beach. A Cloudwing on her beach? Playing in her waters? Why would a pretty and perfect Cloudwing come on a Tidewing's territory when they always shunned her tribe?
"This means war," Surf muttered under her breath and then turned towards the dragon. She coiled her claws and lifted her sharp tail. Her white teeth shimmered malevolently in the morning sun and before the younger dragoness could move Surf slashed at her throat and killed her in one fowl swoop. "Now come on that was almost too easy!" She whined over the dragon body and pushed it into the ocean.
