Once there were two sisters, Annie and Alex Chase. They weren't twins, but they could've been, with them sharing a birthday and all the same features. They both had the same eyes, gray as a storm cloud and shining with intelligence. They both stood at the same height of 3ft. 6in. and were inseparable. Annie, the older of the two, was seven and Alex was five. This day, in particular, was July 12th, both of the girls' birthday.

The girls were playing together outside, hoping they might meet their mother at some point in the day and trying to ignore their stepmother's yelling, from inside the house. Then, at around two in the afternoon, they heard it – a loud roar that got louder, quicker than the girls anticipated. Then, they saw it – a giant ... thing walking, more like stomping it's way towards the two girls.

Annie acted first because she was older and wanted nothing more than her younger sister to be safe. So, Anna grabbed the largest stick she could find (since the sisters didn't have any weapons on them) and charged the monster. Annie knew she couldn't kill the thing with a stick, (she would need Celestial bronze or Imperial gold) but she intended to try anyways.

Though Annie had reason for acting out towards the monster, a second after Annie charged, Alex was running towards the tallest tree by their house, The Climbing Tree. For Alex, climbing trees was how she worked in monster fights; that way, she could sneak up unnoticed and catch the monsters by surprise.

The monster stopped, right in front of Annie, and laughed at the sight; a puny little girl, holding a stick and trying to kill an immortal. In the few seconds the monster was just standing there, Alex got a clear view of it's face and saw that they were dealing with a Cyclops. However, Alex wasn't at all surprised that the monster only had one eye because she knew Cyclopes were real, just like most of the things that are talked about in Greek mythology.

While Alex was waiting for the perfect moment to strike, Annie took a different approach and started climbing the Cyclops, itself. When the Cyclops saw what Annie was doing, he started swatting at her, trying to get her off of him. But Annie was still pretty good at climbing, even if she wasn't as good as Alex, so Annie managed not to fall off of the monster.

While Annie had the Cyclops' full attention, Alex took her moment to shine. Grabbing a branch from the tree she was hiding in, Alex jumped on the monster's face. She landed right next to the giant eye and, using all her strength, shoved down the stick right into the monster's eyeball.

The Cyclops let out a small yelp and stumbled a little, but, other than that, the monster seemed unfazed by the poke to his eye. So, Annie climbed, quickly, up to the Cyclops' eye, to help her sister out. Both girls raised their sticks, counted to three, silently, and shoved their sticks into the monster's eye, in unison. This time, the Cyclops fell down, and the sisters both had to jump off of him.

Surprisingly, the Cyclops started to get back up again, before either sister had the chance to start running towards it's face. With his blurry vision, from the multiple stabbings to the eye, the monster couldn't clearly tell if he was seeing double or if there were actually two girls. The little girl on the monster's right seemed less blurry, so he charged her first. But, as soon as the Cyclops moved toward her sister, Annie yelled, "Run, Alex! NOW!"

So Alex ran, not having to be told twice. The Cyclops, noticing that there were, in fact two little girls, not just one, thought for a bit. Finally, the monster decided he could always come back for Annie, but he wouldn't let Alex get away from him that easily. So, without very much thought, the Cyclops started the way Alex had run.

Sorry for the shortness of this chapter, it's just kinda something that happened, to give some background knowledge. Also, I already posted the next chapter, just thought you guys would wanna know what happened before the story started.
