Chapter 9: Just a Little More of Time in the Infirmary and We're Off

Alex POV:

We were all really worried when John passed out in the middle of our conference, but Will and I were scared the most. I don't know why Will was so worried about John, but I know I grew up with him and probably knew more about him than even he did. He was like a brother to me-no, he was way more important than a brother to me. So you can imagine how scared I felt when he passed out for no reason. Will and I immediately ran forward to carry John to the infirmary, where Will immediately set to work trying to figure out what was wrong. Meanwhile, I sat in a chair, holding John's hand the whole time he was out, which was about an hour.

Finally, when John did wake up and looked like he was about to cry, other people came in. Annie, and her boyfriend, Percy, and Nico, and a few others I didn't recognize and Will was already there of course. As far as I could tell there was no reason for John to just pass out like he did and I was worried for him and when he woke up he seemed fine. He didn't look sick or hurt or anything. Though he did avoid Will, I wonder what happened there.

After a minute or so, Will started asking John questions like, "Do you know what happened?", "Are you hurt?", and "Are you feeling alright?" John rolled his eyes and said, "No, I don't know what, happened, yes, I feel fine. I just had a flashback, that's all." At those words, I noticed the sadness in his eyes and voice. "Do you wanna talk about it?" I asked him, hoping he heard the caring and gentleness in my voice. He looked right into my eyes and shook his head, then he looked away and asked, "Can I leave yet?" Will looked at John, who clearly didn't want to see him and looked away, "Fine, but we still don't know what happened." John, still looking at a wall said, "I had a flashback, that's all." Will sighed and said, "Fine I guess we can go get packed for the quest."

"Speaking of," Annie piped in, "we decided we're going to have to journey to the Underworld for our quest." I nodded, "Makes sense. So we're all going to prepare for this quest then?" Everyone nodded and we all went off to our cabins to get ready.

I walked back to cabin six, with Annie and sat down by my new bed. I grabbed my bag that I hadn't unpacked from my travels with John and threw it on my bed, "I'm done." Annabeth looked up, surprised and smiled. "I forgot you and John haven't unpacked yet." I smiled, "I didn't. Now can I go talk to John?" She smirked and nodded, "Of course, go talk to your boyfriend." I punched her, playfully, and walked outside.

I saw John walking out of cabin seven and started walking in his direction, right as he started towards me. We met in the middle ... no joke, we met in the center green, right by Hestia's hearth. He still looked pretty shaken up, so I sat down on the edge of the hearth and pulled him down next to me. "Do you wanna talk about your flashback now?" I asked and without answering my question, he started talking, "I-I saw him, once, as a child. M-my mom wasn't home yet, s-so I w-went to her house. I m-met her mom and her b-brother and ... it's him." I didn't need him to specify who he and she were, I knew.

I started rubbing circles in his back and he leaned his head on my shoulder, "It's okay. My promise still stands." I thought back to the promise I made years ago.

----Flashback----

We had just gotten back to our campsite after I got my dagger. "Hey, uh, John?" I asked and he looked up at me, "Yeah?" I remembered when I ran into him, a few hours earlier. "Remember when I ran into you?" He nodded, looking a little confused and I continued. "Why were you crying? I mean I know I just lost my only sister, but what about you? What's your story?" He looked down again and said so quietly I couldn't barely hear, "Ours stories don't seem that different. I just lost my sister and best friend." He looked like he was about to start crying again and I stood up, "I promise I'll help you get your sister back, and until then, I'll be your best friend." He looked at me like I was crazy, "She's gone, you idiot. Are you sure you're a child of Athena?" I smiled, "Yes, I'm a daughter of Athena and like I said, I promise I'll help you get your sister back. Not even death will be able to separate you two."

----End--Flashback----

He smiled up at me and, for a second, I thought his eyes moved to my lips, but I must've imagined it. Then, before I knew what was happening, my lips were on his and it was the greatest thing I'd ever experienced. But it was over as soon as it started and I was left, wanting more, but I also didn't want to ruin our friendship. I decided to pretend it never happened since I saw Nico walking out of his cabin and Will, Percy, and Annie followed from their own cabins a moment later. John and I quickly ran up to them and Annie spoke first, "We are going to leave tomorrow, first thing in the morning. I hope I can trust you all to be at the Big House by 7:00 am." We all nodded and the conch horn blew for dinner.

----Time--Skip----

I wake up and check the alarm clock, 6:45, it read. I sat up in bed and pulled on some jeans and a camp t-shirt. I grabbed my dagger and pulled on my combat boots. I pulled my hair back in a simple braid, running down my spine and grabbed a light jacket and slung my backpack over one shoulder. Then I followed my sister outside and to the Big House. The rest of our team was soon to join us and soon we were off, in a car that Argus was driving.

A/N I apollogize for my terrible, short bit of fluff, but I've never actually kissed anyone before, so I'm pretty inexperienced and that's all based off of stuff I've read.

Also, how do you like my first straight ship I've written? Do you ship Jalex?

I'll try to update soon. Byeeeeeee!
