Chapter 5: Birthdays And Beginnings

Alexandra POV:

It's my sixteenth birthday today, it would be Annie's eighteenth, but - I choked back tears, as I heard John sitting up, behind me. I stood up and started to break camp, when John walked over to me and asked, "Hey, what's wrong?" He knows you too well, I thought. He won't believe any lie you tell him. "N-nothing." I stuttered, before breaking down completely falling to the ground, with tears streaming down my face and I was shaking uncontrollably. John sat down next to me and started rubbing circles on my back and whispering things that I couldn't hear, but he said them in such a soothing voice that I managed to take a few deep breaths and calmed down a bit. "I-I'm f-fine." I stuttered again, curse me and my stupid stuttering. "No you're definitely not fine." John said, a slight smile on his face, then he seemed to realize something, and his face went pale. He looked at my tear-stained face, right in the eyes and asked, "This isn't about her? Is it?" He knew, by now, not to say Annie's name because everytime he did, I broke down. I just nodded my head and John started rubbing circles on my back again, so I knew I looked like I was about to break down again.

After about half an hour, I was breathing normally again and I stood up and brushed the dirt off my butt. John did the same and we broke camp and headed North, according to John. "Why do we have to head North again?" I asked. "Because there's something about going North, I think that's like 'you can't go wrong, if you're heading North' or something like that. I don't really remember." He shook his head as he said the last part. I just rolled my eyes at his stupidity, "Whatever you say." We managed to get a few more yards before I heard a loud groan, from directly behind me. I turned around and saw a giant Cyclops.

I wanted to scream, to start crying again, from all the memories that came flooding back, as my two eyes rested on it's one. I stood there, frozen in shock and only faintly noticed John pulling out his swords and charging. It wasn't until I saw someone else, running up behind the Cyclops that I managed to get my body to work again. I unsheathed my dagger and charged the monster, along with the other two people.

I ran around the monster's legs, slicing and slashing at it. Finally I decided to climb it just like I did that sad, sad day that was exactly eleven years ago, today. I try not to sob as I climbed the Cyclops so fast he didn't even realize I had moved until I was on it's shoulder. I slashed at it's neck and throat, while trying to hold on and stay steady and still holding back tears. I wasn't surprised when a giant hand came towards me, in the right position to flick me off. I went to stab it's hand with my dagger, but the Cyclops flicked me off it's shoulder, like it did this everyday and was just annoyed that I was standing on it. I fell off a Cyclops, for the second time in my life and my vision went dark.

Annabeth POV:

I decided I would visit my dad's house the day before my eighteenth birthday so I my dad could celebrate my birthday with me, but I could still spend my actual birthday with Percy. So, I got Percy to let me borrow Mrs. O'leary so we could shadow travel together. I spent the night at my dad's house and left on my actual birthday, so he could say 'happy birthday' to me on my birthday. Then, I called Mrs. O'leary and she shadow travelled us to the road that's just outside the woods around camp. I had been about to start heading towards Thalia's pine tree, when I heard something behind me, which struck me as odd because I was sure Mrs. O'leary had shadow travelled off to gods-know-where. I turned around, cautiously and gasped when I saw who I was looking at. "Mom, what are you doing here?" I asked. Athena smiled at me, in amusement and said, "Can't a mother come to the mortal world to say 'happy birthday' to her daughter who's finally becoming an adult?" "I-I guess." I said, still confused. My mom seemed to remember something at that moment because her eyes lit up and she quickly reached for the dagger that was hanging in a sheath, at her waist. She unsheathed the dagger and I drew in a breath, it was my dagger, the same one that I had lost in Tartarus.

"H-how did you get that?" I asked my mom. She laughed a little and said, "I have my ways, but I think you should take this. You may want it later." She winked at me and I turned away as she showed her true form and disappeared. I just kinda stood there, shocked and holding my dagger in my hands, for a while. Then, I heard a Cyclops and naturally went towards the threat. Gods, I thought. Dating Percy has really taken it's toll on my intelligence. When I got to the Cyclops, I realized why instinct told me to go there. I saw a boy charge the monster, while a girl just stood there staring at the giant in front of her. I didn't have much time to process all this, though because instinct took over again and I found myself charging the monster, dagger already in hand.

After a while, the girl pulled out a dagger and started climbing up the Cyclops with speed that I've never seen before in my life. The boy had two swords and was slicing the giant's legs and feet and I was about to start climbing up the Cyclops too, but something fell off of it and with a horrible feeling in my gut, I realized it was the girl. Before I knew what I was doing, I started to climb the monster and I shoved my dagger right into it's eye, which brought back memories and made me want to cry. But, I had to stay strong, so I walked over to one of it's ears and shoved my dagger as far in as it would go, hoping to hit the juices that keep your balance. I succeeded in doing this and jumped off, landing on my feet, as the monster fell to the ground. The boy turned at looked at me, a little bit of awe showed on his face, but not much. I smiled at him and ran over to cut the monster's face so much he wished he wouldn't be able to regenerate and possibly have to face me again. Of course, the boy ran over to help me do this and we managed to slice it into a pile of golden ichor. I turned to take the boy to camp, when I remembered we had an injured demigod laying on the ground.

I whistled for Mrs. O'leary and shadow travelled the two demigods to Thalia's pine tree. The boy didn't question me at all, I was actually starting to wonder if he could even talk. He helped me carry the girl to the infirmary and lay her down on the bed, where he stayed as I went to get a healer. I walked into Will, who saw my expression and asked, "Where's the injured camper?" I smiled a little at how he just knew what I was going to ask him, and showed him to the bed, where I had left the girl.

John POV:

Man, these girls were stupid. I mean, I barely even saw the older girl who came to help us fight that monster and I knew she was Annie. Though part of it might have been the fact that she climbed just slightly slower than her sister and they both fought with their daggers, exactly the same. When Annabeth came back with a blonde boy that looked almost like J-no I can't think about her right now. The boy smiled at me and said, "My name's Will and I'm here to help, can you please get off her bed so we can heal her?" He said it so gently that I had to obey and I stood up, letting him near the only person I had left. I smiled a little when I realized he must've been a son of Apollo, based on his healing skills. And when he stepped away from Alexandra, I couldn't help but ask him. "Are you a son of Apollo?" The boy nodded and shoved me onto a bed saying, "You have injuries too" I sat down on the bed and said, "You know, I'm a son of Apollo too." He smiled at me and said, "Well, I guess I'll be giving you the tour later then." Annie just stood there, watching Will work on me until Will finally asked, "Annabeth, why don't you go say hi to Percy, isn't he the reason you weren't with your dad for your birthday?" Annabeth just nodded and walked out of the building.

I kept looking back over at Alexandra, waiting for her to wake up. Will caught me looking a few times and smiled his blinding smile at me. When Will finally let me get off the bed, I walked as quickly as I could to the bed that was like five feet from my own, that was holding Alexandra. I just stood there, waiting for her to wake up and after about an hour (after about fifteen minutes, Will shoved me into a chair) she finally did. Her eyes fluttered open and I quickly ran up to her. so she wasn't too confused. "W-where are we?" She asked, looking up at me. I looked at Will, as I realized I didn't know. Will smiled and said, "Welcome to Camp Half-Blood, one of the only two safe havens for demigods." I looked back at Alexandra and smiled down at her, "Well there you go."I said. "This is your birthday present from me." She punched me at that and sat up, but her eyes drifted to the entrance, where two people had just walked in. "Annie." Alexandra said, in barely a whisper, but Annie seemed to have heard it or just saw me because she ran over and stood next to me, looking down at her long lost sister. "Alex." She whispered back and Alex pulled her into an embrace.

Percy POV: (surprise)

When Annabeth pulled away from the girl I could only assume was her sister, though I can't figure out why Annabeth wouldn't tell me she had a sister, Annabeth helped the girl stand up. Looked from Annabeth to the girl and realized they looked almost exactly alike, except the girl - Alex, Annabeth had called her - had a faint bridge of freckles across the top of her nose. I couldn't think of anything to say to either of them, as they walked off.

I turned to the boy that had just been standing there, just like I was. The boy held put his hand and said, "John, son of Apollo." I shook his hand and said, "Percy, son of Poseidon." Then I realized Will was just staring at us, amusement clearly showing on his face. Will then grabbed one my wrist in one hand, and John's in the other and dragged us outside to follow my girlfriend and her newfound sister.

"Annabeth?" I asked, gently tapping her on the shoulder. "Why didn't you tell me about her?" I gestured to her sister. Annabeth turned towards me and said, "Well first off you didn't ask." I opened my mouth to respond, but Annabeth didn't stop talking. "And second, I thought she was dead." I nodded my head, "Okay, you just weren't planning telling me about your past." I said, then I walked back to my cabin.

I made the chapter a little bit longer than I usually do, (I think) but I hope this makes up for all my lateness in updating.

Thanks for reading my terrible story and bye until next time.
