Samantha and Cody then turned in the direction of the voice to see a dark skin boy who seemed older than them sitting with his legs crossed on a rocky platform.

"I'm Cody from Viridian City, and this is my twin sister Samantha, and we challenge you to a gym battle!" Cody sated.

"Fine, I accept your challenge, but which one of you will be going first?" He asked, looking at Cody and Samantha.

"I will because I will become the most excellent Pokemon trainer!" Cody said with determination.

"You know that Gym battle differs from normal battles, right?" The gym leader asked.

"Yes, we know that," Cody said."Gym leaders have the arsenal of Pokemon at their disposal, and while not strong as the Elite Four, they are still at a high-level ranking, "He stated.

"Alright, you seem to be a sharp trainer Cody. This will be a two-on-two battle, and the first to lose both Pokemon will lose," Brock said.

"Good luck Cody," Samantha said, walking towards the stands.

A referee that looks a lot like Brock came out as both trainers took their spots."The two-on-two between Brock at the gym and Cody from Viridian City will begin. Only the challenger may switch Pokemon!" He announced as he signaled for both trainers to send out their Pokemon.

'Wonder what Pokemon is he is going to start on off with?' Samantha thought, waiting for Cody to send out his first Pokemon.

"Geodude, let's go!" Brock called out as he tossed a Pokeball, and out came a grey boulder pokemon with two muscular arms.

"Geodude," It cried.

"A Geodude," Cody said as he took out his Pokedex and scanned the Pokemon in front of him.

"Geodude, the rock Pokemon. A Rock and Ground type. Geodude is found in fields and mountains. Mistaking them for boulders, people often step or trip on them. Commonly found near mountain trails, etc. If you
step on one by accident, it gets angry."

"Alright, Alvara, lead me your fighting spirit!" Cody command sending out his Mankey.

"Mankey!" Alvara cried out as she came out of her Pokeball, jumping around with her fist pumping the air, eager for a battle.

'A fighting type, not a bday move but let's see how well he train his Pokemon for the gym.' Brock thought seeing Cody was off to an excellent start in choosing his Pokemon for the gym battle.

"Geodude, use Rock Throw!" Brock ordered.

"Geodude!" Geodude cried out as it threw rocks at Alvara.

"Alvara, dodge it and then use Leer!" Cody command.

"Mankey!" Alvara cried out as she dodged the incoming rocks before her eyes gleamed at Geodude.

'A leer to lower Geodude's defense. Not bad, Cody. However, will it be enough?' Samantha thought as she waited for her twin brother's next move.

"Now use Low Kick!" Cody shouted.

"Mankey!" Alvara cried out as it kicked Geodude, but it didn't do much damage.

"Geodude Rock Throw again!" Brock commanded.

"Alvara, jump and then use Low Kick!"

'What is he planning to do this time?' Samantha thought as Alvara jumped using the rocks.

Suddenly Alvara landed towards Geodude and sent a kick directly under it, sending it flying.

"Geodude!" Brock gasped at Cody's plan.

"Geodude!" Geodude cried out, getting back on up.

"Alright, Geodude Dig?"

Geodude use it two arms to dig underground.

"Alvara, keep your ears open and listen for Geodude to figure out where it will come up!"

Alvara looked around as she kept her ears focused, trying to pick up on the sound of Geodude's movements underground.

"Geo, dude!" Geodude cried out as it came from underground, sending Alvara straight into the air until she fell on the rocky platform.

"Alvara, get up. We're not done yet!' Cody shouted.

"Mankey!" Alvara cried out as she got back up and suddenly charged at Geodude, slamming a fist on Geodude's head.

"Amazing Alvara, you learned how to use Karate Chop!"

"You can do it, Mr. Hotshot. After all, you keep saying you're going to become Champion," Samantha cheered at a medium-level voice.

"I will be champion. Just watch me!" Cody shouted with a determined expression."Alvara full power Karate Chop!"

"Mankey!" Alvara cried, landing another Karate Chop and taking out Geodude.

"Geo. Geo-dude..." Geodude said as it fainted from the powerful Karate Chop.

"Geodude is unable to battle! The battle goes to Alvara!" The referee announced as Brock looked at Cody, intrigued.

'He has the fighting spirit of a fighting type, just like his Mankey. The two have bold determination, not great strategies, but he definitely has strong willpower. This boy might become a strong champion with that willpower.' Brock thought.

"Alright, Geodude, return," Brock said as he returned his Pokemon to its Pokéball."Go, Onix!" He called out, sending out his next Pokemon.

On the field was a large Pokemon that resembled a giant chain of boulders that became smaller towards the tail form a snake. There was a rocky spine in its head and a pair of black eyes right beneath it.

"Onix!" The Pokemon roared loudly, ready to battle.

"An Onix," Cody said, scanning the Pokemon with Pokedex with a slightly nervous expression.

"Onix, the Rock Snake Pokemon. A Rock and Ground type. It burrows at high speed in search of food. The tunnels it leaves are used as homes for Digletts. As it grows, the stone portions of its body harden to become similar to a diamond, but colored black."

"Alright, Alvara, this is going to be a challenge, but I know that we can pull through with your fighting power!" Cody shouted, making eye contact with Mankey.

"Mankey!" Alvara cried out, punching the air, ready to continue battling.

"So you plan to continue sticking with Mankey," Brock commented."Onix Bind!"

"Onix!" Onix roared as it wrapped its body around Alvara, pulling her into a tight hold.

"Alvara, break on free with Karate Chop!" Cody said.

"Mankey!" Alvara cried out slowly, bringing her fist up and smacking Onix's tail, breaking free from the bind, panting.

"Alvara, hang in there. We can do this!"

"Onix Rock Slide!" Brock commanded.

"Alvara, dodge!"

"Mankey!" Alvara cried out as several rocks fell on her as. She failed to dodge them.

"Alvara!"

"Mankey," Alvara cried out, slowly getting back up.

"Yes, we can do it, Karate Chop!"

Mankey charged at Onix with her fist out, ready to fight.

"Onix Body Slam!"

The two attacks collided, sending Onix sliding back and Alvara flying and crashing into the rock platform.

"Ma-Mankey....." Alvara cried until she passed out.

"Alvara is unable to battle the winner is Onix!" The referee announced.

"Alvara, return," Cody said, returning Alvara and strapping the Pokeball on the belt.

'He has one Pokemon left now. Which one is he going to use now.' Samantha thought, looking over at Cody.

Cody reached down at his belt with narrow eyes thinking about his next Pokemon.

"Alright, Arthur, it's up to you!" Cody shouted, sending out his male Nidoran.
