Chapter 21
Chapter 21
When Beige fell. We were kind of shocked to see that the wall had split into two. We checked it down, and found out that it was an old, looking abandoned, basement. It was full of boxes and really creeped me out. It looked like it hadn't been visited for a very long time. Despite that, the basement seemed suspicious and weird for me. There were a lot of boxes, and they were scattered around, but they were completely closed and sealed. I wondered what were the things inside those.
Something caught my eyes and I focused my gaze on it. Despite its color, which was black, blending with the dimness of the basement, I could still see it. It was a blanket, draped on top of something big. It really seemed suspicious to me. My eyes focused on it for a couple of seconds while they were checking the basement out, their eyes roaming around but my eyes never left the object in front of me. I voiced out my thoughts that something was weird.
I had told them to back away just a bit, and they obliged. Though they seemed hesitant, they did it. Everybody looked at me, curiosity evident in their faces. I lifted my hand up, opening my palm and focusing my eyes and mind on the blanket. I lifted it up, placing it somewhere around the room and it revealed a doorway, and it was glowing, which was too weird for me.
A gasp escaped our lips as we couldn't believe what we were seeing.
The doorway was something magical. It had a blue swirling thing inside. I stepped back a bit, but nobody noticed the little action that I had done, and I was glad for it. They were all looking at the doorway with amazement and curiosity, and the first one to make a step forward was no other than Dave, who had a determined look on his face.
Dave walked slowly and cautiously, his eyes trained on the doorway as he took each step. I could practically hear the beating of his heart, pounding against his rib cage as he walked forward. I watched it, expecting something would happen. Dave turned his head around, looking at us with something in his eyes that I couldn't quite determine due to the dimness of the basement. Something flickered in his eyes. He slipped his index finger through the doorway and his index finger was suddenly gone. We waited, and waited, and waited for something to happen on Dave, but it never came. In fact, Dave seemed more intrigued when he looked at us again. This time, he slipped through the doorway, and he was gone.
Everyone's mouth hung open as we looked at where Dave was standing a few seconds ago before he slipped inside the weird doorway. We waited again for a couple of seconds before Dave went back in with a huge smile plastered across his lips. Dave shouted, stating that he looked the portals and my heart pounded against my rib cage, ringing in my ears.
Dave said that there were zodiac signs glowing, and my mind reeled back at the time when Dylan was eaten by a desert, and we followed him. We ended up finding the portals that led to each place of the Zodiac sign, and we used the portal that led to the Pisces town.
Commenting, Dylan had told everyone that we had actually been there and I told them that it actually happened not a long time ago. I could still remember like it had just happened yesterday. It was fresh in my memory, embedded. We slipped right through the weird doorway portal, and we were transported into the library which we were in before.
Their eyes travelled around like we did when we first got here. It was still the same, just from what I could remember.
Dylan stated that there was a wolf glowing on the wall and I scrunched my nose up in confusion. I watched him, arching a brow and his eyes were focused on the wall. I followed his sight of direction and when I did, he was right, there was a glowing wolf symbol engraved on the wall, and not only a wolf symbol but there was a glowing shield symbol as well. There were a lot of symbols carved throughout the wall, but two of them were only glowing.
Dave's eyes flickered, like he was recognizing the symbols. I watched him for a while, studying him. There was nothing really weird about him, but he just got this aura around him that screamed superior. But I wasn't threatened at all.
We are both Guardians, a voice in my head told me.
Dave began to say things that didn't make any sense at all to us. He said something about the symbols being something else. The wolf referred to the werewolves, and wing referred to pixies, and so on and so forth. It was really crazy. He spoke this with a serious face, and his face hardened when he realized that we weren't believing him. Dave began to say things about Earth, about how there were other creatures and that he was a werewolf, which we didn't believe. But we did eventually, when his eyes glowed a royal blue and the surrounding aura thickened. It was really something.
Dave spoke, but it sounded different. It was like someone was taking over his body, and as his eyes glowed, he stared at us deeply, naming himself as Peitho, the wolf of Dave. We were too shocked and couldn't speak. His eyes had gone back to its original color, but we were still looking at him with wide eyes.
Beige muttered a shit, and Dave told us to find the portals that led to Earth, or to other worlds, but there was something inside my head that told me that he was actually finding a portal that leads to a specific world. He seemed really excited, and I wasn't about to pop it away.
When we realize that the signs are the only portals that lead to the zodiac hometowns, Dave is kind of disappointed. His lips puckered as he glares on the shelf that is full of books. Beige looks at him worriedly, and I suppress a chuckle at how childish Dave looks. He looks like a kid that has not been given something he really loved. It looks like he's about to throw tantrums.
I tell them that there's a hallway and perhaps we might find something there. Dave's eyes flicker with hope again, but it dies down as soon as he realizes that he had hoped earlier after finding out, or after he thought, that he had found the portals.
What can I say? Life is full of disappointments and bullshits.
We begin moving forward across the hallway. I'm not really expecting anything, but it would be good when we find something that will value our hard work. We are just so tired and exhausted and we could use some long rest.
Perhaps after this, I could convince Albert to be around me 24/7. That way, I'd find everything relaxing. He's fun to be with, and he never really bores me, like, at all. I could just stare at him all day and never get bored with it. I would always admire his face and everything about him. From his creepiness to how beautiful his smile is to how soft his lips are.
There's a door at the end of the hallway and this time, I take a lead.
Placing my hand on the doorknob and looking over my shoulder to watch them, I turn the knob hesitantly and open the door slowly. When I open it, it's just another library, but this time, it's an empty room with lots of doorways. There are at least 7 doorways, and they reflect something. In the center is a book.
The book has a hardbound cover; the edges are covered with dirt. The book is thick, looking like it has thousands of pages. There's no title and the name of the author. The cover is black. I run my hand across the cover, dusting it. Opening a few pages, I read a few and I can't seem to stop. Every second my eyes get wide as my eyes go back and forth across the pages.
The house wasn't made for Penthra Kaztala.
It was a home of the Guardians.
The Land of Second Chances is a place where the Good Goddess shall verdict on a person.
From werewolves to vampires, each creature has a role laid for them. They were made to protect the works of the Goddess and to prevent it from harm, and a Guardian shall guide them.
The Guardian's role is to monitor the peace. A Guardian is born after the next one took its last breath, and there will be a cycle. Starting with the werewolves and ending with the pixies, once the cycle has been completed, it will loop back from the start.
Without a Guardian, everything will not be in balance.
In a near future, Guardians will rise and others will fall.
I flip on the next page.
Guardians will rise,
and so will the opponents.
Good will rise,
and so will Evil.
- The Guardian of the Angels, Keith Steel.
Dave found the portals.
