Chapter One
Ethanial
I sighed as we passed the trees that seemed to surround the town that we're going to. Moving to a new town and going to a new school is a pain in the ass. Especially since it's my last year of what I like to call hell. But, I didn't have much of a say in what's going on. My family decided to have a meeting and outnumbered me.
'Oi! I didn't get much of a say in this either! So don't say that it's just you,' A British voice, pretty much the reason why we're moving, said. I felt my right eye twitch in annoyance.
'You do realize that it's your fault and that you were the reason for the meeting in the first place, right?' I asked. The voice just scoffs and says, 'The jackass started it! If he thought that he could jump you with his buddies and get away with it, you were sadly mistaken!'
I just closed my eyes and hit my head on the seat rest a couple times. All I ever want at times is just some peace and quiet, but that doesn't very often. 'I had that under control!' I told it.
'Please, you had as much control as Elvis did when it came to eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches,' it sassed back.
I just sigh. 'Jack, I know you were just looking out for me,' I said, 'but unfortunately, it only made things worse instead of better.'
"Ethan, are you even listening to me?" I heard my mom say out of the blue.
"Nope, not a word," I said monotoned.
All I heard was a sigh. What did she expect? We're moving just because people found out about Jack. Big whoop. It's not like someone isn't going to find out about him in the future anyways. It's just kind of pointless.
"Look, I know it's hard on you and your sisters, especially since it's your last year," Mom started, "but you need to know that what Hyde did wasn't right in the slightest."
"Oh, so I was just suppose to sit back and watch Ethan get beat to a pulp by those wankers while everyone else that was nearby just stood by and watched," Jack snapped, taking control automatically.
'Jack! What the hell?!' I said.
"Hyde, you went overboard! You sent them to the hospital!" Mom scolded.
"They would have done the same, maybe even worse!" he yelled.
"ENOUGH!" my dad yelled throughout the car. Sure enough, they both stopped yelling. "Hyde, give Ethanial back please," he ordered.
Jack just scoffed. "After what just happened, fuck no," he replied. "You forced us to move just because I decided to defend him. You probably would still in that homophobic town even if Ethan ended up in the hospital or worse, dead!"
"Hyde! Enough is enough!" Dad yelled.
"Just ask one of the twins their opinion on this! See if I'm right!"
After he said that, Jack put in my earbuds, played Do Re Mi by blackbear, and turned the volume all the way up. It's funny how the one person that apparently isn't suppose to exist knows more about me and what exactly I need to hear more that my family. Of course, he does live in my head in a way. After what seems like forever, we finally reached to where we were going to live for the rest of our lives until they decide to move again because of Jack.
At some point Jack had given my body back. The funny thing is when he takes over, you can definitely tell that he did, and it's not just his attitude. My body changes as well. My "emo" hair, as my sisters call it, goes from pitch black to snow white. My skin goes from looking like a surfer to someone who never sees the sun. Instead of my oddly fascinating heterochromia eyes, the left being an ice blue and the right an emerald green, both eyes turn into a glowing violet. For some reason, when he gives my body back, my hair stays white for an hour. And on top of all of this, he has a British accent. Trust me when I say this, we're confused about it as well.
We reached the sign to the town where we'll call home for the rest of our life or until someone finds out about Jack. Who knows. As we passed the sign, I looked at it to see what it said. Both Jack and I were confused at the name of it.
'Paradise Falls?' Jack asked confused. 'Why didn't they just name it Paradise?'
Dad drove down the street that our house was on and parked in front of a house. I got out of the car and looked around. The place looks quiet enough, but I have the feeling that we're being watched. The town must not get a lot of new people. Or at least in this part of town. It reminds me of the fancy parts of every town we've been. How we got a house this nice is beyond me. It looked like it was part of the Victorian age. I looked at my identical twin sisters before sprinting to the front door of our new home.
"HEY!" they both yelled, and I'm guessing that they're right behind me.
I burst through the door, quickly slamming it shut before running up the stairs to claim a room. I scan the hallway before sprinting to the last room on the right. Looking around, I was glad that I picked it. The room was bare with the exception of a bed that had royal blue covers, but the walls were a crimson red color with black vines that had leaves painted, swirling all around the room. It also had a windowsill.
'This is the best room ever!' Jack exclaimed. 'There is no way that the other two are going to get this room!'
"Mom! I found my room!" I shouted in excitement. I can hear the complaints from my sisters about me not being fair and how I used Jack to cheat. I just laughed it off as they both came to my room. Their jaws dropped at the sight of the room.
"Now I definitely know that you used Jack to cheat," Vanessa said.
"Yeah, there is no way that you got this room without help," Lillian agreed.
Jack, deciding to defend himself, switched with me and said, "I resent that statement! The only thing I helped him with is making sure he stayed in this room."
They both rolled their eyes and said, "Whatever, loser."
We rolled our eyes together in the annoyance of our sisters. They're the only ones in our family that treat Jack like a person instead of a disease. To them we're just twins that're stuck together in a weird way.
I quickly shove Jack aside. He seriously needs to to learn how to calm down. I don't want to have his hair the whole day. It drives me insane when he decides to take over at random. As much as I love my beanie, I don't want to wear it until I have to sleep.
"Ethanial! Girls! Hurry up!" Mom yelled. "The movers need help with some of the things we have!"
We just sighed and went downstairs to grab our stuff. Before I went down, I decided to take off my beanie and drop it on the floor, smirking. Now the twins can't get the room while I grab my stuff. As the girls race past me going back up, I just smirk at them. When I got to the bottom, I heard them complain about unfairness.
See, when we were younger, dibs just didn't cut it. It always became first come, first serve. So, we decided that if one of us wanted to claim something, we would use whatever was on our person to do so. And we always honored it by not touching the object, no matter how much we bitched and moaned about how unfair we thought it was.
I grabbed a box with my name on it. I turn around to head back upstairs, but I see the movers looking at me weird out of the corner of my eye.
It was kind of creepy, so I look at them and said, "What? Got a problem with me or something?"
They just kept on staring at me and sniffing the air as if something smelled bad. Since I know it wasn't me, I just made a face at them and mumbled under my breath how much of a weirdo they both were.
As I was about to take the box up to room, I heard a deep voice say, "What are you doing here, pup?"
I turned towards the movers, confused and slightly offended on what he just said. "Pup?" I said. "Do I look like some sort of dog to you, asswipe?"
I examined the movers just in case something happens and the police get called. Both of them were male, one was taller than the other, but not by much. I'm assuming that the taller of the two had the deep voice. They both had black hair with green eyes and were built. In fact, they look related. I would actually consider flirting with them if it weren't for the fact that they were being weird.
The taller one looked at me in shock while the shorter of the two growled like some animal. "What did you just say? You should know better then to speak against a high ranking member of the pack, pup," he snarled.
I just snorted and said, "Yeah, and I'm a vampire that sparkles in the sun like someone decided to pour glitter all over me." I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "Now if you assholes excuse me," I sneered, "I have to put my stuff away before I get into trouble with my parents. Hopefully, you can keep your weird, cosplaying asses to yourself, not bothering me unless you're asking where about where to put my furniture. And yes, I know I sound like a spoiled brat, but I'm just telling you to do your jobs and not ask personal shit that's none of your business."
"Hyde, you shouldn't be rude to these nice gentlemen!" Mom chastised from behind.
I could feel Jack wanting to come out and yell at Mom, but the last thing we need is these nutcases to find out about the family's 'dirty secret'. "Wow, how about you blame Jack for everything I say and not assume that I'm just speaking my mind," I said, feeling pissed off that everything 'bad' done is blamed on Jack.
I turn to the stairs and go up them, ignoring the confused looks on the movers face. I could hear Mom using the sob story how I have a 'split personality' and how I have 'so much trouble controlling it.' Why not tell them I belong in a mental asylum while you're at it? I could hear Jack swear like no tomorrow and imagine strangling her for saying shit like that. I don't really blame him. She uses that excuse every single time I say something that she doesn't like.
I put the box in my room and just repeated the process of going down the stairs, grab my box, and put it in my room. Fortunately, the movers only talked to me when they had furniture and they weren't sure where to put it. The growling one kept sending glares my way, so every once in a while I gave him the bird while smirking. I don't start something if I know I can't finish it. The more responsible one would hit the other on the head if he gets caught and scold him. Oh, it is the best feeling when the short one looks like a child who got in trouble.
I made sure that Jack came out once in a while for a second because if the movers start asking why my hair is a different color after an hour, then rumors would spread and we might have to move. Again. And I honestly don't want to move again.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, everything was put where they were. Sure, a lot of our stuff was in boxes, but it's better than nothing. Once everything was done, I went into my new room to figure out what goes where. I pick up my beanie and put it back on. I never thought that I'd miss wearing my beanie. I think it comes from being around weirdos for so long. As I try to figure where things should go, I heard a knock on my door frame.
I turn around to see the tall mover standing there. Safe to say that I'm shocked that he would be standing there. I thought he would have left with the growly one by now.
"Can I help you?" I asked cautiously. I tell Jack to stand by just in case shit goes sideways.
"I would like to apologize for earlier," he said as he was coming in a bit. "We don't get a lot of new comers in this town, so we're a bit out of practice. You see, we have a lot of traditions that usually have us connect to the wolves that live here."
I think about it for a moment before saying, "It's fine. I guess I should apologize too for be a bit of a dick. I've been kind of pissed lately, so it didn't help being called a pup by two complete strangers."
"Ah, that's right, your disorder," he said.
At that moment, no one could have predicted what happened next. Between Jack and I, we might as well be a volcano. But, while I was the simmer, Jack was the explosion.
"What did the bitch tell you exactly?" he rhetorically asked. "Did she tell you that I'm just some sickness that can't be cured? Some sort of mental disease that 'makes it so hard on him because he's just a sweet little boy'? Or did she tell you that I was just some sort of parasite?"
By the time Jack was done, he was breathing heavily. The mover just looked at us in shock. I face palmed at how stupid we were for letting our anger get the best of us.
'Way to go, dumbass,' I said, 'Not only did we get mad, we also freaked out the guy in front of us.'
Jack just stopped for a second before letting out a string of curse words under his breath. "You've got to keep me a secret," Jack said, "because the last thing we need is for our family to find out that I got out in front of a complete stranger."
He just stood there for a few moments before slowly nodding his head. Can't say that I blame the dude though. I'd probably be the same if I were him. Jack decided to switch with me while he stood there. I just let out a sigh of relief.
"Sorry about that," I said embarrassed as I rubbed the back of my neck, "We get in enough trouble as it is for saying things that I say. If this got out, I don't know what will happen."
"Ethan!" the twin screamed. They both came stomping to my room when they seen the mover standing in the room. Vanessa and Lillian had identical smirks on their face and walked up next to him on either side.
"Hello," they said flirtatiously, making him jump a bit.
"How are you?" Vanessa asked on the right.
"What's your name?" Lillian asked on the left.
"What's your favorite season?"
"What's your favorite color?"
"How tall are you?"
"What's your phone number?"
"What's your zodiac sign?"
"Do you have any siblings?"
"Do you masturbate?"
"How big is your dick?"
"But most importantly...."
"Are you dating anyone right now?" they asked at the same time.
The poor man's face was visibly red by the time they were done. My own face was red from secondhand embarrassment. The girls looked at him for a moment before frowning.
"Jack!" they said angrily.
That snapped the mover out of it. "Why do you assume it was him?"
"One, you're less shocked than normal people are when we do this," Vanessa said with a finger up.
"Two, you haven't even attempted to answer any of our questions," Lillian said with two fingers up.
"And three," they said with three fingers up, "you didn't ask who when we said Jack's name."
He just stares at them. I, on the other hand, just sigh. "Look, can I just put my stuff away then worry about school in two days?" I asked in annoyance.
"We're going to get his name first," the twins replied. He looked a little uncomfortable at this point. "Its, uh, Caleb," he finally said.
They both nodded before saying, "Are you gay?"
Knowing immediately why they asked, I yelled, "Out of my room!" while shoving them out. The girls protested while poor Caleb went back to being the equivalent of a confused puppy. I finally got them all out and closed the door, turning around and leaning against it.
'I'm going to take a guess and say that this is going to be a VERY long year,' Jack told me exhausted.
I signed for what seems like the millionth time today. 'I got the feeling that you are absolutely right on that one,' I told him tiredly.
