In the middle of the night a babies cries could be heard as it took it's first breath. The exhausted mother was smiling down at her newborn child. It's father was standing proudly beside his wife. As soon as the nurse returned with the now cleaned baby and wrapped in a warm blanket, it was handed to it's mother, who happily stroked through it's pitch black and blood red fur. "He's beautiful, Crimson." the male said, watching his child nuzzling into his wife's bosom. 

The mother had beautiful red fur, it looked like rubies when the sun shone on her fur. She wore a white hospital gown and her golden eyes were fixed on the newborn as she held him secure in her arms. Her red hair were in a pony tail, sweat still damping her body after giving birth to her son. 

"I know Terios, but ... how should we name him?" Crimson asked, not once tearing her gaze away from her child. 

Terios' fur was as black as the night and had a tuft of white fur on his chest. He wore a green t-shirt with black jeans and a black leather jacket to match. His magenta eyes were staring at his son in concentration as he was thinking about a name for his child.

Terios put a hand on Shadow's chest and stroke through his son's white tuft of fur. This seamed to awake the baby and the young one opened his eyes slowly, revealing blood red eyes.  "How about ... Shadow?" Terios suggested.

"That's a nice name. You hear that my little child, from now on you'll be called Shadow." the red hedgehog replied and kissed her son on the forehead.

A week later, Crimson was sitting in a armchair, feeding Shadow with a bottle. Terios was kneeling beside his wife, watching her feeding their child. The dark hedgehog would have watched them longer if his phone wouldn't have started ringing. 

Terios looked at the numbers ID to see who's calling him. The ID read John, Terios best friend. 

On the phone:

"Hey John, what's up." Terios said cheerfully. 

"Terios, you and Crimson need to leave your house. Immediately." John replied hectically.

"Why? What's going on?" the dark hedgehog asked worried. Crimson looked up at her husband with a confused look on her face.

"G.U.N. They are after your son." John replied even more hectically than before.

"Why are they after Shadow." Terios asked, he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"They know that the two of you are really powerful hedgehogs, now imagine Shadow's powers when he gets older. He'll be even more powerful then you and Crimson combined." John explained.

"Okay, we'll leave. Thanks bud." Terios replied and hung up.

End of the phone call

"Terios what's going on?" Crimson asked worried. "We have to leave, G.U.N. is after our son." Terios replied, already running upstairs to get a few things. 

Crimson jumped to her feet and wrapped Shadow into his red blanket. The black and red hedgehog confused looked up at his mother, he didn't know what this sudden rush was all about.

Terios ran into the kitchen, helping his wife packing all the baby supplies in a bag. Then they put on their jackets and were about to leave but they stopped as hard knocking was heard on the door.

"This is G.U.N. open up immediately." a deep voice commanded.

"To the garage, quick." Terios whispered and the hedgehog family silently went to the door which lead to the garage.

Terios jumped in the driver's seat and Crimson sat in the passenger seat, holding Shadow for dear life. For their luck, Shadow didn't make a sound, as if he knew he had to be quite.

The sound of breaking of the door was heard and Terios started the engine.

"They're in the garage." another soldier shouted and Terios speed out of the garage.

"HQ this is agent Andrews. Suspect has escaped. They are driving on Emerald street. I repeat, suspect has escaped. They are driving on Emerald street. Over" Andrews said into his wrist communicator.

"Suspect is in sight, we'll cut them of in Casino Street. Over." another agent replied.

In the mean time Terios was driving as fast as he can. Suddenly a car came from the left and the dark hedgehog wasn't able to stop the car in time and crashed into it.

In the mean time, two streets away from Emerald street, a royal blue hedgehog, known as Sonic, was walking on the sidewalk, enjoying the peaceful evening. At least is was a peaceful evening until he heard a loud crash.

The curious hedgehog he is, he speed off to the place the sound came from.

Sonic soon reached the place he was looking for. The two cars where damaged badly and the blue hedgehog looked shocked at the two vehicles. He pulled his phone out to call the police and ambulance but was interrupted as he heard babies cries. He quickly rushed to the white car, where he saw someone moving. He opened the door.

The driver had blood all over him and was lying motionless against the wheel. The female hedgehog however moved and looked up at Sonic with pleading eyes, a baby held close to her chest.

"Please take my child, don't let them get him. Make sure he's okay." Crimson said with a pleading voice and handed Shadow to Sonic with the last bit of strength she had. She smiled a last time at her child before her eyes closed forever and Shadow's cries become louder. The little black and red hedgehog reached out to his mother.

Sonic inspected the other car in the meantime and noticed the logo on the side of it.

"G.U.N." Sonic whispered and looked back at the crying child. He wasn't a fan of the government. The blue hedgehog made up his mind and speed off, taking the baby hedgehog with him.

"I'll take care of you, I promise."
