The Tail of me

I swam through the reef trying to contain my excitement. Father is gone! He's gone to another sea to visit its ruler, with less guards I finally managed to sneak out undetected. My violet colored tail twitched with excitement. I hadn't been out of the castle for some time, breathing fresh water not crowded by other mers was a relief.

Playing with the dolphins I was unaware of the danger approaching. It wasn't until the dolphins swam away along with a large school of fish, did I notice how still the water became.

I cried out! as I felt something suddenly weight down on me before constricting me on all sides, and then I felt myself being pulled. Seeing as struggling made the restraints tighten I stopped and watched, as the ocean's surface came closer and I prayed someone was nearby- before darkness came over me.

"Pretty mermaid.... exotic too, she'll make a hefty profit"

"Aye"

They took me three years ago when I was fifteen, it was then I knew what it was like to truly have no freedom. Then, I met him- Jack Doyle.

At first, like anyone in my situation, I didn't trust him, but after a year we somehow fell for each other. Love was a beautiful thing to have in that god awful place.

"Don't worry my little mermaid, one day we'll escape and you'll be free. No more tanks, no more disgusting men ogling and torturing you, no more starving-" He stopped wiping away my sadness. "-no more tears, I'll make you the happiest mermaid on sea and on land."

I foolishly believed him as what I long ago discarded resurfaced- hope. But the world never works like you want to, considering I'm now swimming in my lovers blood.

I don't know how they knew, how he knew- he just did. We were foolish to believe we could keep our relationship a secret, much less out plans of escaping. Nothing gets past Dave O'Konner, he would barely be able to run this operation if they did.

"That atta teach ya, no one escapes this life, I'll leave you to relearn that." With that he closed the latch leaving me in darkness with Jack's body.

Boy did I learn.
