Chapter Twenty Two
Even though we agreed that we were going to the siren kingdom to save Delphine, we still needed a plan on how we were going to sneak in and find her. It was too risky to come up with a plan in my chambers while my father was still awake, so we needed to meet up at a different location. Klaus and Veronica suggested that we meet up at the Atlantis library. It was perfect, we had a location on where to meet up, and I was hoping that nothing would get in the way.
That night, I patiently waited for my father to fall asleep. He never slept in his chambers despite his mermaids in waiting, insisting that the throne was not a comfortable place to sleep. But, he never listened to them. I carefully poked my head out into the hallway, keeping an eye out for any guards that may swim past at any moment. Violet and the others had taken the trident and the map when they left the castle earlier that day.
The coast was clear, and I carefully swam down the hall, and trying to be careful not to cause a lot of ripples in the water, giving away my position. I looked out into the hall, and still nobody was there. For a castle, this place should be full of guards. They're probably beginning to grow lazy. Eventually, I made it out and swam over the palace walls.
The bright lights of the city that night made it hard for me to see, but soon I approached the front doors of the Atlantis library. I gently knocked on it, and the door slowly opened, revealing the others sitting around a large table. "Ah Arthuas, is here. Come, come," Veronica said, motioning for me to join them. I sat down in one of the dark wood chairs, and the doors of the library slowly but surely closed.
"Okay, now that we are all here, we need to come up with a plan," Klaus said, bringing the meeting to order. Quigley pulled out the map that was taken from the castle library and unrolled it on the table. "Alright, the border is about ten to fifteen miles from here, so now we need to figure how we are going to sneak over the wall and get into Queen Esme's castle," Quigley said, his finger quickly skimming through different areas of the map.
The others began giving their suggestions. Duncan suggested that we swim over the wall and try to avoid any contact with the sirens. But, Violet suggested that maybe we could try to blend in with the sirens and try to avoid any conflict with them. But despite those good suggestions, there were some things that they did not know about the Sirens.
"Guys, I think there's something you need to know about the sirens. There's a lot that you don't know about them," I spoke up. Everyone at the table became silent, and all eyes fell upon me, wanting to hear about the information I was about to give them. I took a deep breath, and I mentally gathered all the information that I had gathered about the sirens from a book I read called, The Incomplete History of Sirens.
"The Sirens are not like mermaids. I know you guys may think that they're just creatures that lure people to their deaths, but that's not all they do. They each have a different ability," I began to explain. "What kinds of abilities?" Veronica asked. "Some possess the powers to deceive others, spread untrue rumors, and sometimes the power to cause pain to their enemies,"
Half of them let out small gasps. and the other half's eyes grew wide as saucers. "The power to cause pain to others is rare, and it's a power that mostly royal sirens possess," I added. "So, not only do we have to be careful not to get hypnotized by the siren's voices. We also have to be careful not to rub them the wrong way that would cause them to hurt or kill us?" Klaus briefly recapped.
I nodded my head slightly, and everyone let out small sighs of disappointment, I hated to burst their bubble if they thought rescuing Delphine was going to be easy, but unfortunately, it wasn't. "Did you gather any information about the trident?" Veronica asked, pulling out the trident, and gently leaned it against the table. My eyes grew wide when I saw that they had brought it with them, and I was hoping that we were not thinking about taking it into the Siren kingdom.
"Don't tell me your thinking about taking the trident with us! Don't you understand the danger you will put us in if you take the trident with us?!" I whisper shouted, trying not to make too much noise even though the library was empty. "Arthuas, we can't leave the trident here, someone could take it for themselves, and then we'll never be able to go home. Besides, doesn't the trident have other powers?" Violet protested.
She did have a point there, but I was still nervous about Esme possibly getting her hands on the trident. "The trident also can take energy from our enemies and use it ourselves to defend our people," I explained. "We could use the trident to take the siren's powers, and we could use those powers to get Delphine back if we have to fight our way out of there," Isadora suggested.
We put the decision to a vote, and despite that I was still worried about Esme and the trident, I agreed that we would use it to take the siren's powers. We also decided that we would try to sneak past them to avoid confrontation. "So it's settled. We have a plan," I said. The others nodded in agreement, and we got our stuff, and we were ready to begin our quest to rescue Delphine.
