Chapter Twenty Six
"Oh, Miss Delphine! I hope you're ready for more torture unless you're ready to give me the location of the trident!" Queen Esme called out as she came down the stairs. "Hide!" Delphine hissed. Me and the others quickly swam towards the other end of the hallway, and we carefully poked our heads out, and we saw Queen Esme with two other sirens with her. They appeared to be her daughters.
"Are you ready to give me the location of the trident?" Queen Esme asked. I couldn't hear much of what Delphine said. But from the sound of her sobs and the pain that was on the edge of her voice. She was begging for them to let her go. "Give me the location of the trident, and I will let you go, It's that simple," I didn't believe Queen Esme for a second. I knew that if Delphine did tell them where the trident was, they would kill her before going after the trident.
I was pleading to Pontus that she wouldn't give them what they wanted. "No, never!" Delphine said with a strained voice. "Suit yourself. Emily, you know what you need to do," Queen Esme sighed. "Mother, I don't feel comfortable doing this," Emily admitted. I looked over at Veronica, and she had a surprised look on her face. Maybe this Emily is not like the other sirens. "You will use your abilities to torture her right now! Or else Rose will do it for you. And you know how rough she can be with her powers," Queen Esme threatened her daughter.
"Mother, once is enough!" She protested. The Queen of the Sirens pushed her daughter against the wall, and I could hear her struggling to breathe. "Oh, my dear Emily, you are just like your stupid father. Olaf was too much of a coward to marry the siren queen," She growled. Queen Esme then looked over at her other daughter, and she swam towards the cell and opened the door. I had to make it stop, but I was so powerless against three sirens.
Delphine's screams of anguish filled my ears, and passed through the seaweed earplugs and filled my head. She was begging for the pain to stop, and I could hear Rose grunting as she made sharp scratches on Delphine's skin. "STOP!" Emily screamed. Suddenly, the screams stopped. "Are you going to finish the job?" Queen Esme asked. Emily nodded her head slightly, and Esme released her from her tight grip.
Emily entered the cell, and Rose exited it, wiping her hands on her blood-red tail. A minute later, the sounds of Delphine's screams filled my head, but this time, they were slightly quieter. Maybe Emily has some sympathy for Delphine and doesn't want to hurt her too badly. "Alright, that's enough, Emily," Queen Esme sighed. Delphine let out loud pants of relief that the pain was finally over, and Emily locked the cell door behind her. "We'll be back in an hour, and if you don't give us the location of the trident, the pain will be even more excruciating next time," Esme warned.
I watched as the Siren Queen and her daughters swam up the stairs. And I was too afraid to come out until I was sure they were out of earshot of the dungeon. I looked over at Quigley and Sunny, who were holding each other tightly, and I could hear Sunny let out small, quiet whimpers. I gently tapped Veronica's shoulder, but she didn't flinch.
"Veronica, are you okay?" I asked. She shook her head slowly, then looked up at me. "I can't believe it, I have a stepsister," she barely whispered.
