Chapter Thirty Two
My mind couldn't wrap around it, Delphine had saved me, but she ended up getting stabbed. I held her body close to me, trying my best to stay strong for her. "N-no, Delphine. Stay with me, your alright, you're going to be fine!" I stuttered. She weakly lifted her hand, and I felt her gently caress my cheek. "A-Arthuas, t-thank you," she stuttered.
I was confused. What is she thanking me for? "For what?" I asked as I gently ran a hand through her hair. "I-I l-lo," blood began to pour out of her mouth, and I felt her go limp in my arms. Tears began to sting my eyes, and I felt my body shut down. I couldn't move an inch. All I could do was look down at the girl who stopped my heart, and now her heart had stopped. And in that moment, it felt like I was already dead. "no... NO, Delphine! Please don't leave me," I sobbed as I hugged her gently, not caring if Queen Esme was watching me mourn.
I closed her beautiful blue eyes and gently laid her down on the ground. My body began to quiver, and all the sadness I had vanished and was replaced with rage. "Such a shame. A promising life, wasted because of her love for you," Queen Esme taunted. "You would do well to watch your tongue," I growled. "Ooh, Prince Arthuas, talking like a man now. What are you going to do to me? Are you going to send guards to take me to the dungeons? You're so weak. It's no wonder your father doesn't allow you to leave your castle," She taunted.
My hand gently touched the small blade that I had found in Delphine's cell and I prepared to attack Esme with it. "You know, you may be right," I sighed, acting like I was depressed. She swam closer to me, and I took the opportunity to stab her in the stomach. She let out a small gasp as I pierced her skin with the blade, and she looked up at me with fear in her eyes. I took out the knife, and I stabbed her again, but this time in her dark heart.
"Look at me now, as blood spills from your heart, just look at how weak I am now," I growled as Queen Esme struggled to control the amount of blood she was losing. She looked up once again, but instead of looking at me, she looked over at her dead daughter. "Rose," she said before falling onto her back and dying. Suddenly, I felt the castle shake, and when I looked up, I could see bits of the glass dome breaking off and falling to the ground.
I quickly moved out of the way, and I carried Delphine's body out of the crumbling castle. By the time I had reached the entrance, everything behind me had begun to fall, destroying everyone and everything inside it. I swam towards the castle gates, and I could see that Emily, Veronica, and the others had made it out successfully.
"Arthuas! You made it!" Violet smiled. I tried to smile back at her, but every time I tried, it turned into a look of shock and sadness. "What's wrong? We won!" Veronica asked as she swam towards me. She looked down at Delphine, and the smile on her face turned into shock, and she let out a scream. "Delphine! What happened to her?" she said, her eyes quickly filling with salty tears. What's going on? Is Delphine okay?" Violet asked, pulling Veronica into an embrace. "S-s-She's d-dead," I stuttered.
The others let out small gasps, and Violet, Veronica, and Isadora all burst into tears. Klaus, Duncan, and Quigley held them in their arms and looked away from Delphine's body. Their shoulders were shaking. I buried my face into Delphine's neck, and I treasured every second of holding her in my arms for the first and last time.
"She sacrificed herself to save me," I muffled into her hair. "It should have been me who died instead of her. I said that I would protect her and I didn't," I sobbed harder. "Arthuas, you did everything you could. That's the best you can do," Emily said, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "I wanted to tell her I loved her, but now it's too late," I said as I wiped away a few falling tears.
"Well, there is one way. One way we can bring her back,"
