It was beautiful swimming underneath the waves, and I could see all sorts of underwater plants and animals. The moonlight helped light our way through the deep, blue water. We swam for about an hour, and then I started to grow hungry even though it had been two hours since I ate dinner. "Guys, I think we should stop for now. I'm starting to get hungry," I groaned. "I agree. We need to eat!" Violet nodded.

We all came to a stop and swam down to the ocean floor in search of food. "Ugh, seriously? We have to scourge the ocean floor looking for food?" Isadora sighed as she searched through a sea bush. "We're not on land anymore, Isadora," I answered.

I found a few pieces of delicious seaweed, but that wasn't very filling. Soon, I came across a small school of tropical fish swimming around in circles. Looks delicious. I carefully swam towards them, but then I felt someone grab my arm. "You're going to eat fish? Isn't that cannibalism?" Klaus asked, looking at the small fish. "I thought the same thing when I read that mermaid book, but it's only considered cannibalism if you eat other mermaids," I clarified.

Klaus nodded his head slightly and swam away to find more food. I eyed a small red and orange fish, and as I reached my hand out to grab it, someone quickly swooped in and took my food from me. "Hey!" I protested. When I looked up, I saw a girl with long black hair, brown eyes, and a dark green tail devouring the small fish. "Sorry, I didn't know you were going to eat that one," she said, wiping her mouth with the side of her hand.

I just stared at her. She looked very similar to a mermaid, but the only problem was that she didn't have the kind smile that a mermaid would have. She seemed menacing, but as my mother always said, "You shouldn't judge a book by its cover," so I thought that maybe I would try to get to know her better and see if she was one of us or something else.

"What's your name?" I asked. "Fiona,  what's yours?" she asked. "Delphine Snicket," I answered. She brushed a small piece of her hair to the side and locked eyes with me. "You must be a long way from home. Are you a siren or a mermaid?" Something inside of me was screaming that she could be a siren, but I wasn't too sure whether or not I should come up with a lie and say we were sirens or say that we were neither.

"Um, this is going to sound weird, but we're neither, we turned into one of you, and we're looking for the trident to free us from our powers," I answered. She looked confused, but a smile spread across her face once more. "I know where the trident is! Follow me and I'll lead you to it," she offered her hand out to me. "Delphine, who is this?" I heard Veronica ask as she put a hand on my shoulder.

"This is Fiona Widdershins. She said that  she might be able to help us find the trident. But, I don't think we can trust her," I whispered to Veronica. Her eyes grew wide, but I silently told her to act like there was nothing wrong. "Really? Are you sure you can take us to the trident?" Veronica asked. Fiona nodded her head, but I could see past her smile. She did not want to take us to the trident.

"I don't know. I think we'll try to find the trident ourselves," I said, getting ready to swim away from this siren. "Oh, please don't go, we'll take you to the trident! We promise!" Fiona begged. We turned around, and we saw there were two other sirens next to her. One had orange and red curly hair and a dark pink tail, while the other had brown hair and a dark and light blue tail. "I'm sorry, but we really must be going," Klaus said as he swam towards us.

"You're not going anywhere! You're coming with us back to our queen!" the girl with the blue tail cackled. "Luna, I'm the one who talks to them, not you!" Fiona scolded. "Sorry," she muttered. Violet, Sunny, and the others swam towards us and tightly grabbed our hands. "You cannot escape the sirens," the pink-tailed girl claimed. The three sirens looked at each other and began to sing.

Veronica and I knew that the sirens were going to try to lure us into coming with them, but the only way to escape them and their deadly voices was to outsing them. Klaus started to swim towards them, but Veronica and I quickly grabbed his arms and held him back. "Cover the boy's ears! We have to outsing them!" I shouted to the others. We all covered Duncan, Quigley, and Klaus' ears, and we began to sing as well, trying our hardest to outsing them.

Veronica and Delphine: Follow, sweet children
I'll show thee the way,
Through all the pain and the sorrows

Isadora and Violet: Weep not, poor children

For life is this way,

Murdering beauty and passions

Sirens (higher): Hush now, dear children
It must be this way
To weary of life and deceptions

Mermaids: Rest now, my children
For soon we'll away
Into the calm, and the quiet,

Come little children,

I'll take thee away
Into a land of enchantment

The time's come to play,
Here in my garden of shadows,

We kept singing until the sirens gave up and began to swim away in defeat. But before they swam away, Fiona turned around and glared at us. "You haven't seen the last of us! We will back and stronger than ever!" she swore. We waited until the sirens were gone and released Klaus. "What happened?" he asked. "Sirens," I answered. We looked back at the others to make sure they were okay. Everyone seemed to be fine, but we were all shaken up by the events that occurred.

"We should probably get moving, it might take us a while to find Atlantis, and frankly, I don't want to run across any more sirens," Duncan sighed. "Agreed, besides I've had enough for my share of sirens for one night," Violet said. We swam close to the surface, and we continued moving forward, hoping to find Atlantis soon.
