The Tables Have Turned

Chapter 21

“Alex!” Chase yelled. I pushed Alex away, stopping him from kissing me longer. We had just returned from our spot and we were now with Paul and Chase.

Alex said that we’ll tell them later about our relationship but “later” was apparently sooner than I thought.

Chase was staring at us wide-eyed while Paul just smirked. I blushed and Alex shrugged.

“What? Am I not allowed to kiss my girlfriend?” He said coolly and my heart skipped a beat when he called me his girlfriend. I can’t believe how much I loved hearing him say that.

“Girlfriend?!” Chase said, obviously surprised. He gave me a look that held so many thoughts. I kind of had an idea about what they were.

“Don’t act so surprised,” Paul said, rolling his eyes. “We all knew it was coming soon.”

It was not my turn to be surprised because of what Paul said.

“You did?” I blurted out.

“Yeah,” Paul replied. “It was obvious that Alex treats you differently.”

I glanced at Alex and he smiled shyly. He looked just like he did two years ago. Chase thought that he was now a player but that was just a façade. I knew he was still the same person deep down.

The bell rang and we lazily went up to class. The teacher wasn’t there yet so everyone was talking and laughing loudly.

We walked in and Paul shocked me when he yelled, “Quiet everyone! We have big news!”

Everyone immediately shut up as they stared at Paul curiously, waiting for him to spill.

“Guess who the new couple in class is?” He said and I was even more shocked when everyone screamed ‘Alex and Hailey!’

Paul nodded with a grin on his face and everyone’s attention focused on Alex and I. Alex grinned and wrapped an arm around my waist.

I heard a few ‘aww’s from the girls and several guys nodded at Alex proudly. I almost rolled my eyes at their typical reactions.

I sat in my chair when the teacher came in but I couldn’t concentrate the whole period. Of course, I was thinking of that blue-eyed boy sitting behind me.

I was tempted to turn around and look into his blue eyes but I would look like an idiot and I would end up blushing as he laughs at me. I could imagine in all in my head and I definitely didn’t want it to happen.

I sighed and rested my head on my hand as I stared at the teacher who was talking and talking and talking.

I jumped when a paper hit my head and fell on my desk. I heard Alex snicker behind me and I turned around to shoot him a glare. I was actually happy that I had an excuse to turn around. Stupid, I know.

I opened the paper and read his note.

Thinking about me too much? ;)

 I blushed because he was right but I wasn’t going to let him know that. I put my cold hands on my cheeks to get rid of the blush as I wrote my reply on the paper.

Not really, but obviously you’re thinking about me ;)

I turned around when my blush was gone. I looked into his blue eyes and he smiled at me. I smiled back before throwing the paper at his face. It hit his forehead and his eyes widened in shock. I coughed to hide my laugh as I turned to face the teacher again.

The bell rang before Alex could send me another note. I stood up and went to put my things in my cubby. I sat on the floor and started fixing my books since my cubby was the last one down.

I took out my Physics copybook and stood up. Immediately, two arms were wrapped around my waist and I yelped, surprised.

“I was thinking about you,” Alex whispered in my ear and I blushed.

“I know,” I replied, turning around to face him, and I gave him a cocky smile.

He laughed at me then pinched my cheeks just to annoy me because he knew how much I hated it when people do that to me.

“I love making you blush,” he commented and I slapped his hands.

Before I could reply, Paul came and wrapped his arm around my shoulders.

“You’re not going to start ignoring me now that you have a boyfriend, right?” He asked.

“No, of course not,” I said. Then I added, just to tease Alex, “Alex does not deserve all my time, anyway.”

Alex’s eyes twinkled with amusement and Paul laughed.

“I’m much better than him, anyway,” Paul said, winking at me. “Dump him and I’ll be your boyfriend.”

“Hmm,” I said, thoughtfully. “That’s a good offer.”

“She wouldn’t dump me!” Alex said.

“Is that a challenge?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest and giving him a confident smile.

Suddenly, he put his hands on my waist and pulled me closer to him.

“I wouldn’t let you,” he said in a low voice and I couldn’t reply because of the way his blue eyes were looking at me.

Just as his lips were about to touch mine, Paul’s voice yelled, “Rule number one: No PDA!”

I burst out laughing as Alex scowled at him.

“That includes all the kissing/hugging and even mushy talk,” He continued, making me laugh even harder.

“That’s none of your business,” Alex told him. “If you’re that jealous of our relationship then you can cry on your own at night.”

I snickered and Paul shot me a glare. Then he smirked and told Alex, “I can’t cry at night because that’s when your girlfriend pays me a visit.”

I gasped and Alex punched Paul. He wasn’t hurt from the punch, like I expected, instead he laughed his ass off!

His laughter was contagious so I joined him while Alex just looked at me as if I had lost my mind.

“Come on, Alex, lighten up,” Paul said when we stopped laughing. “I was just joking.”

“Whatever,” Alex muttered, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Your boyfriend is angry,” Paul whispered to me but I was sure that Alex heard him.

“And I care because?” I said, trying to hide my smirk.

“Why are you guys making fun of me?” Alex said in a pouty voice and I had to control the urge to hug him because of how adorable he looked.

“You’re such a girl, Alex,” Paul said, rolling his eyes at his friend.

“I am not!” Alex said defensively.

“Yes, you are,” Paul replied.

“You’re both acting like little girls!” I said and they shut up.

I snickered at their faces and went back to my desk. I put my Physics copybook on my table and went to the classroom door to see why the teacher didn’t come yet.

There were a few girls standing on the door too so I smiled at them. I noticed that all the students from the other classes were also walking in the corridors.

“Where are the teachers?” I asked.

“I think they have a meeting or something,” Carson said and I nodded.

“Hailey,” Mariah said with a smile on her lips. “Tell us everything about you and Alex!”

I chuckled and blushed as all the girls squealed happily. I caught a glimpse of Emily’s blond hair and thought that I should tell her first. I mean she was the one who knew all about me and Alex and our past.

“One second!” I told the excited girls as I ran to the class next to mine.

“Hey, Hailey,” Emily said, smiling at me.

“Guess what?!” I said.

“What?” She asked; her blue eyes wide with excitement.

“Alex and I are back together,” I said. Her face was neutral for two seconds before a wide grin spread on her lips.

“Seriously?!” She squealed and I nodded, now grinning as well.

“I’m so happy for you Hailey!” She said, hugging me. “I’m so glad he forgave you and you put all that crap behind you.”

“Thanks,” I said, smiling. “I’m glad, too. I didn’t expect him to forgive me but he did!”

“He’s such a sweetheart,” Emily said. “You should’ve known he would forgive you.”

I grinned and nodded. Before I could say anything else, she pointed to somewhere behind me and I turned around to see my Physics teacher walking to my class.

“I’ll see you later!” I called out to Emily as I ran back to my class.

Mariah narrowed her eyes at me when I came in right after the teacher and I smiled apologetically. I was actually glad that I didn’t have to tell them about that because I didn’t know if I should lie about Alex and I having a history together or not.

This way, I would have more time to think about it.

I took my seat and opened my copybook as the teacher started writing some notes on the board.

I copied the notes and the hour passed slowly but I kept on motivating myself by saying that it’s the last period of the day and I get to go home after that.

When the final bell rang, I suppressed a happy dance as I packed my books and closed my bag.

Alex stood next to my desk waiting patiently for me to finish.

“Tomorrow, you two are sitting during break time with us to tell us everything,” Mariah said, narrowing her eyes at us.

Alex laughed and nodded as he wrapped his arms around me.

“Okay,” I said, smiling at her.

“Bye!” She called out as she left the class and we waved at her.

“What do you want to tell them?” I asked.

His eyes darkened slightly and something flashed in them before quickly disappearing. He then smiled warmly and said, “We’ll tell them everything.”

“Everything?” I echoed.

“Everything,” he replied firmly and I nodded. I was okay with that because they were like a family to me and as much as I wanted to forget about what I did two years ago, I had to tell them.

“Can I take you on a date tonight?” Alex asked.

“Don’t you have practice today?” I asked.

“Yeah, I’ll pick you up when I’m done,” he said and I nodded.

“Okay,” I replied, smiling. “Where are we going?”

“Surprise,” he replied and my grin widened. Unlike most girls, I liked surprises so much! He used to always take me on surprise dates and I used to love them!

“Dress casual,” he said and I nodded, already thinking of what to wear.

I stood on my tiptoes and gave him a peck.

“I’ll see you later,” I said. “Chase and Emily are probably waiting for me.”

“Wait, Hailey!” He called out and I turned around to give him a questioning look.

He leaned down and gave me a proper kiss leaving me breathless. “I’ll pick you up at seven thirty,” he said, out of breath and I just nodded as my cheeks flamed.

I ran out of the building and gave the siblings an apologetic smile when I saw them waiting for me.

“Sorry!” I said as I jumped in the car.

The both smirked at the same time. It was creepy.

Then we drove home in silence and I couldn’t stop the excitement I felt.
