A: Are we all calm now?

[pause]

A: More water?

[pause]

A: Are you going to say anything?

B: What is there to say?

A: That's for me to decide. I think we're coming to the last part of this interview. Don't worry, another hour max and it'll all be over.

B: Okay, what do you want?

A: I want you to tell me the truth about what happened after you heard the knocking.

B: I told you. I sat on the sofa.

A: For the whole day?

B: No, I went to my room.

A: Can you describe your room?

B: Bed. Chair. Oh, yes. Silly me. I forgot. Desk. Lamp-

A: In detail.

B: There's a picture. It's a little faded.

A: On the wall?

B: Yes.

A: What's this photo of?

B: I never said it was a photo.

A: Picture, photo, same thing.

B: No, a picture could be of anything, a photo is camera-produced.

A: Well, what's the picture of?

B: You tell me.

[pause]

B: Got no snarky comment?

[pause]

B: I've had this sneaky feeling all day that you're not actually an officer. And I think I'm right. You know about this crime more than you let on.

A: That's ridiculous.

B: I can prove it.

A: How?

B: When you detained me earlier you shouted 'Officer'.

A: And?

B: Normally at a station you'd know all your colleagues' names by heart, and yet you were acting like you didn't know that man at all.

A: He's new.

B: He might be new, or you might be lying.

A: This is ridiculous.

B: And those socks? They were to provoke a reaction out of me because you well know about the picture on my wall.

A: Enlighten me.

B: I want to hear you say it.

A: This is a formal inter-

B: You keep saying that and yet you've spoken to me informally, you asked me leading questions, you've paused the interview every five minutes. This is far from formal and you know it.

[pause]

A: You're a prime suspect, you know.

B: Tell me what about the photo on my wall.

A: A main suspect.

B: Say it. What's the photo on my wall of?

A: The ONLY suspect, even.

B: Say it. Please say it.

[pause]

B: Just say it.

A: You've got the socks in your photo.

B: Yes, go on. What else?

A: The photo is of me.

B: Yes. And who else?

[pause]

B: Don't cry. Who else?

A: My daughter.

B: Mhm.

A: And I'm wearing the socks.

[pause]

B: I got no tissues, sorry. Would you like some water instead?

A: No. I want to pause this interview.

B: Can't do that, I'm afraid.

[pause]

B: I'll give you time to compose yourself. Ten whole minutes if you want, like you gave me.

[pause]

B: Are you okay?

[pause]

A: I'm fine.

[pause]

A: You think you had me worked out, but I worked you out a long time before that.

B: When?

A: As soon as you set a foot into this room. It was all a setup.

B: I know. There was no sign on the door when we came in after lunch and that guy you had drag me out was certainly an accomplice. This obviously isn't a police station.

A: I just need to hear you confess.

B: To what?

A: You know what.

[pause]

B: To what?

A: Don't make me say it.

B: Does mentioning it make you cry?

A: Please don't.

[pause]

B: I'm here as a prime suspect for the kidnapping and suspected murder of your daughter on 7th July.

[pause]

B: I said it.

[pause]

B: Are you happy now?
