Maria and I stayed at Aggie’s for another hour before we headed out. I promised Maria that I would  bring her back soon. Now that everything I had to do was done and over with it was Maria’s time to do what she wanted. She had chose to go to the park since it had been a while since we had gone there. The down side to that was Xavier decided to tag along. Okay that’s a lie, Maria had asked if he wanted to come with. Why did my little sister have to be so nice? Oh yeah, cause I was always nice and she picked it up from me. It didn’t help that I had always told her to be nice to people.

While Maria was running around squealing her little head off I was stuck with Xavier. The two of us walked along the walkway not uttering a word. When it came to him I hardly ever knew what to say. Half the time we couldn’t even hold a regular conversation. Come to think of it we haven’t really have a normal conversation since that night at the club; even at dinner last night.

I didn’t want to just walk around with him and say nothing so I decided to start up a conversation. “Did you bring all of those gift’s to Aggie’s? I asked; it was a safe topic and one that I was rather curious about.

“Yes. I did.” he said with a nod.

“Why?” I asked curiously

“I’m not as heartless as I seem you know.” he said

“I didn’t...”

“Don’t worry about it, it’s just after I followed you there that one day I thought it would be a good thing to get those kids something for Christmas. Everyone deserves to have a nice Christmas.” he shrugged

“Yeah they do.” I agreed “I just didn’t expect to see you there today, with a bunch of gifts no less and playing with the kids. How do you even have any experience with kids anyway?”

“I do some charity work here and there. Mostly, the make a wish foundation.” he replied

“Oh, wow. That’s....wow.” I didn’t know how to respond. Who knew that Xavier Chase was into charity work. I know I sure didn’t; I wonder if the girl knew about this. I hadn’t really asked them anything about him.

“Is it really that surprising?” he asked

“Just a little.” I admitted “I didn’t peg you as the charity type.”

“No one ever does so it’s no big deal.” he shrugged; well this was going better than I thought it would.

We walked in silence for a while more. Until Maria wanted to go on the swings. I pushed her on the swing for a little bit. She got bored with that quickly and ran off to the play ground. Xavier and I sat on one of them any benched situated around the little play area. There were kids off all ages playing here and there. Parent’s or nannies talking with each other.

“Maria is just a little ball of energy, isn’t she?” Xavier asked nodding to where Maria was running around playing with another little girl.

“You have no idea.” I laughed lightly “She can be a real handful when she want’s to be. One day I had offered to keep an eye on her while my parents went off to do something with work and I ended up getting a ‘princess make over’, then got stuck playing babies and tea party all day. It’s safe to say I didn’t watch her for a full day again. There is only so much babies and tea parties I can take.”

“Must be nice have a sibling though.”

“It is.” I nodded “What was it like growing up as an only child?”

The thirteen years that I spent as an only child were boring. I spent most of my time with nannies and let’s just say it wasn’t all that great. Especially when I had to go with my parents to formal dinners and parties. You’d think I would have an okay time with the other kids that were forced to go, but I didn’t. Most of them were to stuck up and chose to stay with their own little groups to care about anything else.

“It was okay, I had Liam and Cole with me most of the time since our parents worked together. So, I was hardly ever alone. It would’ve been nice to have a little brother or sister though. But, my parents were content with one kid.”

“So...” I scream cut me off.

I looked around the play area for Maria. She was sitting next to the slide crying and holding her arm. I shot off the bench and ran over to her.

“What happened Ria?” I asked gently taking her arm in my hands.

“A bee.” she sniffed “It hurts Ree.”

Looking over her arm I saw a small red bump. Red splotches were forming around it and in other areas. She had never been stung by a bee before, but I knew she was having an allergic reaction. Her breathing became quicker and shallow.

“What happened?” Xavier asked crouching down next to us.

“Bee sting.” I replied panicked “She’s having an allergic reaction!”

“We need to get her to the hospital.” he said scooping her up into his arms and running to his car. I sprinted after them.

I climbed into his car and he set Maria onto my lap. After getting in himself we sped off to the hospital. Maria was having an even harder time breathing and I didn’t know what to do. I was scared out of my mind. Xavier got us to the hospital in no time. He took Maria from me and ran into the emergency room shouting out for help. A nurse came up to calm him down.

“Sir, please you can’t be shouting in here. Please have a seat.” she said

“Are you blind?” he shouted “This little girl is in the middle of a damn allergic reaction to a bee sting!”

“Oh, oh I’ll get a doctor!” she said and hurried away.

“It’s going to be okay, sweetie.” I sniffed rubbing my hand over Maria’s cheek which was hot to the touch.

“I’m scared Ree.” she gasped out.

“I know, baby. The doctor will make it all better.”

Tears were pouring down my face. This was my little sister and she was in trouble. I was on the verge of having a panic attack. My breaths came out in pants as I thought about all the things that could happen. I really had no idea what would happen. But, I was pretty sure that it wasn’t all good. A doctor came running out of the doors ushering us to follow him. We walked quickly to a little area surrounded by curtains. After setting Maria down on the bed Xavier stepped out to call my parents and let them know what happened. The doctor got to work and I couldn’t tell you exactly what he did. I was focused my Maria’s face and telling her everything would be alright.

Xavier came back in to let me know that my parents were on their way before walking out again. I didn’t know where he was going nor did I care. My sister was all that mattered right now. The doctor said she would be fine and they may keep her over night for observation. Now all we had to do was wait for my parents. It was almost an hour later when my parents walked in. In that time Xavier hadn’t returned. My parents talked to the doctor and after another few hours Maria was released.

My parents hadn’t said a word to me as we drove back to the park to pick up my car. I stared out the window as Maria was fast asleep with her head on my lap. My thoughts were all over the place during the drive. I was so happy that my sister was okay and that nothing serious happened. Every time I would think about what happened in the park my thoughts drifted to Xavier. Now that we were out of the hospital and every thing was good with Ria I couldn’t help but wonder about him. Where had he gone after calling my parents? Why hadn’t he come back?

I know it wasn’t his responsibility to stay with us. I just figured since he had rushed us there they he would want to stay and wait to find out about Maria. Guess I was wrong. Or maybe he just had somewhere he needed to be. He is the CEO of his father company which would mean that he is pretty darn busy. Once we got to the park my parents drove off right after I got out of the car.

What loving parents they were. Or should I say what I loving mother I had since she was the one driving. If I didn’t know any better I’d think my mother hated me. After all she was the who was forcing me into the marriage. She didn’t like my friends and always had some thing negative to say about me.  I can’t even remember the last time she said anything remotely nice to me. I’d probably have a heart attack if she did.

I drove back home in silence, not even music filling the void. My mothers car was in the drive way when I pulled up which was a surprise. I would’ve thought that as soon as she got home she’d make sure to have someone to keep an eye on Maria before going off to do whatever it is they do now days.

“Mallory Sofia Blake! Get in here right now!” my mother called out from the den as soon as I opened the front door.

I sighed and tipped my head back. She never calls me by my whole name unless she’s about to start a whole lecture or something. I put my bag and keys and the foot of the stairs and walked into the den.

“I cannot believe you allowed that to happen to Maria!” she hissed; she wasn’t honestly blaming me for this! “Do you have any idea what could have happen?!”

“Are you really blaming me for this?” I questioned

“If you hadn’t taken her to that damn park none of this would have happened!” she yelled; I guess she was.

“Honey, calm down.” my dad said

“How can you expect me to calm down? Our little girl was in the hospital because she,” she hissed pointed a perfectly manicured finger at me. “Didn’t have the sense to keep an eye on her sister.”

Oh she is so not going there. She is unbelievable! How the hell was I supposed to know this would happen? I am in no way a freaking psychic!

“For your information I was watching her! How the hell was I supposed to know that she would get stung by a freaking bee?! And how was I supposed to know that she is allergic to them if she had never been stung by one before?”

My mother looked furious at my words. I didn’t even see the slap she delivered coming. My head whipped to the right on impact. My hand flew up to cup my stinging cheek. I looked at my mother with wide eyes that was the first time she had ever hit me in my life. I couldn’t have been more shocked. She didn’t even look sorry that she had done it.

“Go to your room, I can’t stand the sight of you.” she said stiffly

I looked over at my father who had his eyes cast to the floor. Was he really going to side with her on this? Was he really going to let the slap slide? What happened to my dad, he would have never let something like this go. Everyone was surprising me today. Before the tears that I could feel building could fall I ran to my room. For the first time since I had found out that I would be marrying Xavier I was actually glad I would be. At least I could be out of this house and away from my mother. I let a few tears fall that night before I fell asleep.

The days leading up to Christmas was spent in my room. Jean had been coming up to bring me my meals. I didn’t want to see either of my parents. Not after what happened with my mother. Ever night when I was sure they were all asleep I would sneak into Maria’s room and lay with her for a while. I hadn’t seen Xavier since that day either though if he had come by the house I wouldn’t have known.

It wasn’t until Christmas morning that I wandered out of my room and to some place other than my sisters room. I dressed in a knee length red dress. It was fitted at the bust before flowing out. There was a forest green sash under the bust that tied into a bow at the back. I may not have the whole Christmas spirit going on, but I might as well dress the part, right? Voice floated to the top of the stairs where I had been standing for a almost ten minutes. Look’s like Xavier and his parents were here again.

It’s now or never I thought myself and walked slowly down the stairs. I chose to wear black ballerina flats instead of heels so I didn’t have to worry about falling on my face. I had put on come cover up since the slap I received had given me a bruise on my cheek-thanks to my sensitive skin. Before I could even step down from the last step my phone vibrated in my hand. I looked down and it was a text from Corrie. Opening it I saw that it was a picture of some tabloid. There was a link attached to it so I opened it. I sat on the last step and waited for the page to load. It was a little article about Xavier. The headline read:

Xavier Chase Is At It Again!

The rumor mills are at full speed! Xavier Chase aka The Billionaire Heart Breaker is back at it people!

Xavier was spotted this weekend at one of the hottest night clubs in LA with a very beautiful and very leggy blonde. On lookers said that the two looked rater cozy as the sat in the VIP section. Some even said that on more than one occasion Xavier and the unknown woman were found lip locking.

This news had come as a bit of a shock since sources close to Mr. Chase have said that the most wanted bachelor in the country was off the market. According to these sources there have been whispers that he is set to be married in just about two months.

Are there really wedding bells for The Billionaire Heart Breaker in the near future? Or is it just a rumor? It seem to us here at Gossip Weekly that it is just a rumor. Every heart breaker has to have a heart, right? If he was really set to be married we highly doubt that he would be out partying it up with some girl who we found out he had just met that night.

Check out our website for more photo’s of the hot and heavy duo!

I looked at the picture once again. Xavier and the girl were clearly having a ‘hot and heavy’ make out session in it. I couldn’t believe it! I may not have feelings for him, but the least he could have done was respect me and not make his little escapades public knowledge. And how the heck had Gossip Weekly found out that he was getting married? Not very many people even knew about it! At least they didn’t know who I was. Who knew what kind of spotlight that would bring my way. I saved the picture to my phone and straightened my shoulders. The worst thing about it was the fact that it happened the night that Maria was in the hospital. Now I know where he ran off too.

I walked into the den and greeted everyone before sitting with Maria on the couch. She was doing so much better and I was glad for that. She was itching to open her gifts and now that I was here she could. When she finished opening the millions of gifts the got my father passed me mine. Every year was the same thing when it came to gifts from my parents they always gave my an unlimited credit card since they never knew what to get for me. I gave my dad a small forced smile and thanked him for it. Mr. And Mrs. Chase handed my a square leather box with a bow on it. I opened it and gasped. Nestled in the box was a beautiful Harry Winston diamond necklace.

“It’s beautiful, thank you.” I smiled up at them.

“I’m glad you like it dear, think of it as a sort of early wedding gift.” Mrs. Chase said

“Let me help you put it on.” Mr. Chase offered holding his hand out for it.

I handed it to him and pulled my hair out of the way so he could secure it around me neck. I reached my hand up to touch it.

“I knew it would look beautiful on you.” Mrs. Chase cooed “It will go perfect with whatever dress you decided to wear.”

“I’m sure it will.” I nodded.

“What are you waiting for Xavier, give the girl her gift.” Mr. Chase said

I glanced over at him for the first time since I walked in the room. He handed me a small box. I had a feeling I knew what the box would hold. When I opened it I was right, sitting there was a huge diamond ring-a Harry Winston ring. Also known as an engagement ring. It was beautiful, but he was dead wrong if thought I was going to wear this thing. Not after the article I had just read. Closing the box I held it out to him with a blank expression.

“I can’t accept this.” I said

“Mallory!” my mother chided

“Don’t start with me today mother.” I sighed “Please, take it back. I will not be wearing a ring that signifies my engagement to you.”

“Why are you acting like a brat?” he questioned

“What is the meaning of this?” my mother asked

Choosing to ignore my mother I brought up the picture on my phone. “We may not technically be together Xavier. But, I thought you would at least have some respect for me even if you have none for yourself.” I said handing him my phone. “Next time you want to get your kicks with some girl you just met, you might not want to do it in public. Once we get married and the news about it get’s out I do not want people on my ass about a cheating husband.”

I stood taking my phone from his hands replacing it with the ring box.

My mother grabbed me by the arm. I wouldn’t doubt that it would leave a bruise. “That attitude is unacceptable young lady.” she hissed “You will accept the ring and that is final.”

I yanked my arm out of her grip and glared at her just as Xavier’s parents were doing to him. “I may have to marry him mother, but that does not mean I have to wear his ring. I will not be one of those wives that just sits back and let’s her husband do whatever the hell he wants with no consideration of her feelings. If he wants to mess around with other women then so be it. I just don’t want to see it on the front page of every tabloid.”

I gave the Chase’s a quickly apology before leaving for my room. He could do whatever the hell he wanted. I was not going to stop him. I just hope that next time it happens I don’t have to read about it. As messed up as that’s sound I just couldn’t bring myself to care. Why should I when he obviously didn’t.
