Confronting The Flutters
I walked up to the Qudditich bleachers and stopped dead in my tracks. What was I going to say? I felt really bad for just brushing him off before. What would he think? I just showed up? I just changed my mind? I Shook my head. Maybe it wasn't to late to turn back before he sees me. Draco looked over at me and I knew it was to late. I felt my legs start to give out from under me. I looked to the seats under me, shuffling the walk of shame as I neared Draco. I looked up from the seats as Draco's crooked grin became apparent.
"I was beginning to think you just blew me off" Draco announced cooly. I looked down at the ground, ashamed.
"I wasn't needed where I was going," I started, "Apparently" I added. I looked to him finally. "Sorry... I had wanted to come, really, but I had already agreed to do something" I stated. Draco looked at me, at first with concern, then it melted away into a teasing smirk. I shoved his shoulder playfully. "Don't give me that look, I came didn't I?" I asked.
"I guess you did, but I could have done with out the teasing from the Quidditch team" Draco scoffed. I blushed.
"My apologies, next time why don't you ask before someone else does?" I asked. He blushed again.
"I didn't think that you'd have any plans on the first day... thats all" He rubbed the back of his neck. I snickered at him.
"Aww, is somebody embarrassed?" I asked, nudging Draco slightly with my elbow.
"Well I.. I just..."
"Hey, It was a sweet gesture... Adorable in fact..." I announced, A blush dusting over my cheeks, as a smile crept on to my face. Draco looked at me.
"Adorable? Did you just call me adorable?" He scoffed.
"Wh- No! I said your gesture was adorable!" I responded. He chuckled.
"Then by extent I'm adorable, Yes?" He asked.
"I-I don't know... in a way I guess" I stammered, blushing darker. "Why is this the topic we are talking about?" I asked.
"Don't get mad at me, You brought it up... but... In a way... I guess I could find you the littlest bit adorable" He responded. I widened my eyes.
"You... You could?" I asked. He nodded. I watched as a blush crept up his face. I don't know what it was about Draco, but seeing him blush makes me laugh. I feel like I can confide in him because I know exactly how he feels. I shook my head. It just stirrings... nothing special... Draco's just a guy I thought. I tucked my hair behind my ears and looked up at the Quidditch team.
"You know, I play for the team." Draco stated. I looked at him admiringly.
"Really? Wow! Oh what would I give to play Quidditch with you guys" I sighed, continuing to watch as the quaffle was passed from Chaser to Chaser and tried to score on their Keeper, while the Beaters each hit a bludger away from the other team mates. But nothing compared to the excitement I felt when I watched the snitch zoom by, with the Seeker close on its tail.
"Whats your favorite position, Corrine?" Draco asked. I guess he felt my jolt of excitement as the seeker passed by. I debated in my head between Seeker and Keeper. Which one did I like better?
"Can I have two answers? I have good reasons for both... and I can decide which I like better... maybe you could help me sort it out?" I asked. He side nodded and I started my rambling. "Well Im stuck between Keeper and Seeker... Keeper is very important, blocking the quaffle from the rings and making sure that their team has possession of the quaffle after its been shot and he/she has blocked it. But Seeker is as well important because he/she is the game changer, Seeker can make or break a close game, thus making he/she one of the most necessary players on the team. Both very important, but nether towering over the other in power or responsibility. Have any words of wisdom, Draco? Anything to help me out of this dilemma I'm in?" I asked. His jaw was long unhinged from his upper lip. I waved in his face. "Hello? Earth to Draco, do you copy, com in Draco, over?" I joked. I saw the life flash back into his eyes and he cleared his throat.
"I thought you were lying about liking Quidditch, Corrine... I didn't know you actually knew anything about it..." Draco blushed. I snickered. Then patted his back.
"Ouch... That kinda hurts Draco, To think I'd start our friendship off in lies, that shows me exactly how much trust you have in me" I joked, sticking out my lip, to add to the affect.
"Well... You'd be the first girl I've met who hasn't had to watch a Quidditch game to be able to talk about it openly" Draco stated. I looked to him and punched his shoulder, playfully.
"I watch Quidditch all the time back at home, so I can't say I haven't watched it before, you are gravely mistaken, my friend." I replied. He laughed.
"I mean, haven't had to see a school match to know how to play, Corrine. Anyway, I think the Seeker is the most important." Draco stated. I got on the bleachers where your feet normally go, turned around and placed my elbows on the bleacher that Draco was sitting on. I waved my hand.
"Proceed with your argument my friend, If you can persuade me, I'll claim the spot of Seeker as my favorite. If you fail, you won't have helped me at all, and you'll have to live with it" I stated. Draco sighed.
"Seekers have the ultimate responsibility, they have to be swift, fast, strong, and subtle all at the same time. On top of that, Seekers have to watch the entire field to protect their players, while keeping an eye out for the snitch" Draco stated, crossing his arms. I nodded.
"Very valid point, Draco, but Keepers have a strong job as well, seeing to the fact that they are the last line of defense before the hoops, you think Seekers have pressure? Ha! I laugh at your ignorance! Keepers have to keep the ball from the hoops, that can be stressful all on it's own. Then they have to deal with the pressure of the entire rest of the team counting on them to block every shot made by the opposing team, yeah, no pressure." I commented. Draco, however, was not giving up that easily.
"If Seekers didn't go after the snitch, the game would go on for an eternity! The Seeker is the game ender!" Draco exclaimed. I leaned back, shocked by his outburst. I nodded.
"Okay, Okay, you win. Seeker has now claimed my favorite position. There. Happy?" I asked, scared that his next move was a slap or a punch. I guess he saw that he had scared me, because his face and eyes softened from their harsh, clenched state. He smiled.
"Quite so, that's the position I play" Draco smirked. I blushed.
"You tricked me" I sneered.
"All is far in love and war, Corrine." Draco stated simply, giving me a smirk.
"Who said anything about love, Draco?" I asked, now smirking at him. He widened his eyes. I saw a blush dust his face once more. I can't seem to keep him from blushing.
"Well... I meant in a... Brotherly kind of way... You know... I have your back" he stated. I snickered.
"That's not how my little brother acts, Draco, though it's good to know that someone has my back" I announced, bumping my shoulder into his. Draco's blush faded from his face, and he smiled.
"You'll root for me right? When I'm playing as a Seeker?" Draco asked. I smiled.
"What kind of friend doesn't root for her friend? That's a new level of shallow, Draco" I teased. He smiled.
"Yeah, I guess you're right... I'm glad to have a friend like you, Snaproot, it makes school a little less dull" he commented. I nodded.
"Ditto, Draco" I stated simply. Then the bells sounded for dinner. I stood up.
"Corrine? Care for an escort?" Draco asked, gesturing to his open arm. I laughed.
"Keep doing this for me and people will start thinking we're dating, Draco" I announced, accepting his offer.
"Well you aren't exactly denying it yourself, Corrine." Draco stated, once we got off the bleachers. I stopped suddenly and dropped my arm from his. "What? It there a bug on my robes?" He asked scanning his arm. I shook my head.
"No... I just think it would be better if we just walked... Savvy?" I asked. He nodded. And so we walked. But he did the strangest thing as we entered the dining room. He grabbed my hand. I shook his hand off mine and looked at him horror struck. "Draco... Look... You're a sweet kid... And I'm not saying no not ever... I'm just saying... For now I'm just... Not ready... Ok?" I whispered. His face dropped.
"Yeah... Sorry" he apologized. I nodded.
"But hey, there's still an open seat next to me if you're interested." I perked up. He nodded. I can't believe I just did that... Man the fluttering in my stomach was crazy. What the bloody hell was I thinking? News flash. It's Draco Malfoy. Get over yourself, Corrine.
