It's A Circus.

You have to cover your mouth in order to stop your laughter from ringing out across the café, the blonde telling you little stories about his life, you've gathered that he's pretty into family - however his biological brother and adopted brother do not seem to get along.

He was also adopted as a child himself after his parents passed away but he seemed reluctant to speak more on that matter and instead just told you all about how his adopted father, Sengoku, likes animals.

And how his little brother, Law, has seemingly picked up this little quirk also.

Although he keeps turning the subject onto you every chance he gets, seemingly interested in learning more about you and your life but you're honestly not sure what to tell him, you don't really consider yourself all that interesting.

"I must ask," His calm voice drawing in your gaze as you finish off your second coffee, placing the cup back down and raising a curious brow, urging him to continue. "You seemed stressed when I came in earlier, I know it's probably none of my business but I'd like to help, if that's okay."

His words cause a small frown to dent your features, your mind shifting back to the disappointing text from Shanks as you rest a hand against your face. "Hmph...I don't know, it's stupid, I don't think there's anything for it." Of course you only seem to intrigue the blonde more, his brown eyes staring into yours persistently as a hum rumbles in his throat, encouraging you to elaborate. "You remember my friend from the other day, right? The reason I shouted at you upon first meeting you?"

"The pink-haired girl, yes."

"Yeah. Well, she lost her job that day and her home, which is why I was so pissed with you for spilling coffee on her..."

"Naturally. I think that would piss most people off, I'm sorry about that." His words actually managing to draw a soft smile to your lips before you continue.

"It's fine, you didn't know...sorry for yelling at you." You're not one to apologize usually but this man is sweet, you'd feel like a monster if you didn't make amends for your fiery temper, he has been so understanding after all. "Anyway, she's struggling to get another job now and Shanks basically just told me that he can't afford to hire her either." You shrug your shoulders with this information, mostly accepting defeat but Rosinante doesn't seem too bothered, merely tilting his head to the side curiously.

"That's all?" His response earns him a slight pout in return, it's easy for people like him, you'd wager he's rich but others aren't all that lucky. "I could get her a job easily, if you want."

"No way!" You answer without hesitation, your voice lowering to avoid drawing unwanted attention as you explain exactly why. "I know what kind of stuff you and your brother are into, I don't want my roommate getting mixed up in shootouts or whatever."

Perhaps rather blunt but once again, you're not known for mincing your words.

The blonde staring at you in surprise for a few seconds before he balls his fist, bringing it up to his mouth in attempt to mask the soft chuckle that escapes his throat, something that immediately has you frowning in mild confusion.

Why is that funny?!

"I wasn't speaking about anything dangerous, don't worry~!" He finally giggles out, his eyes filled with kindness despite the fact that you practically just insulted him and his hand reaching into his pocket, taking out his phone. "My father is working at the local zoo, has been since he retired the police force, and there's a job opening he was speaking about just the other day. Does your friend like birds?"

Birds...?

"Uh, maybe...I-I've never asked her."

"Okay, well, if she does then tell her to call this number." The blonde continues as he types away on his phone, soon causing yours to vibrate inside your bag. "It's my father's, he'll get her an interview so long as she's kind to animals. And the job is feeding penguins, in case you're wondering."

Feeding penguins? That...sounds kind of cute, actually.

You watch as Rosinante slips the device back into his pocket, his smile never wavering as he folds his arms over his chest, though he raises a brow when you begin to speak again. "May I just address how odd it is that you're said to be involved in the mafia, yet your father is a retired police officer."

Again, you're aware that this can come off as slightly insulting but as you probably should have expected by now, Rosinante doesn't seem to mind. The blonde smiling down at you as he lightly shakes his head. "I'm not in the mafia."

Huh?!

"The life of crime is Doflamingo's thing, I've always aimed to keep myself and Law out of it." His words has your lips parting in surprise, perhaps you had underestimated him. "I once wanted to be a police officer like Sengoku though, one of the good ones, y'know? But once they found out I was the biological brother of a crime lord, they relieved me of my duties. I'm now just a paramedic."

You swear your eyes widen little by little with every word he says, your breath feeling like it has been trapped inside your lungs, you really want to apologize for being so ignorant but you simply can't find the words.

He's a paramedic! He saves lives! And you're here accusing him of being some kind of scumbag!

"I am so sorry!" Your apology is what causes the man to frown however, his eyes filling with confusion as he quirks a brow.

"What for? Not being a mind reader?" He softly jests, his eyes scanning the busy café as he continues. "A lot of people here probably think the same thing as you, I know there's rumours about me circling the town, it's why Bartolomeo wouldn't disrespect me. I shouldn't have assumed you'd think any different, especially since I hadn't mentioned my job to you before."

"I still should have asked!"

"No matter." He carelessly hums, his frown soon falling into a look of boredom as he glances down at his empty water bottle, something that has you wishing you were never given the right to speak.

I've ruined this whole date.

"Do you wanna go to the circus?" He suddenly questions, completely throwing you off as your orbs shoot up at him in complete surprise.

"Huh?"

"I took Law there a lot when he was young, we didn't watch the animals perform but we would go on a few rides then I'd buy him some ice cream, it was the only time he'd smile." The blonde admits with a fond grin. "Personally, I think I enjoyed the rides more than he did."

That confession immediately making you snicker, you can just imagine this man wanting to go on all the rides, forcing his younger brother to join him so he doesn't look out of place.

It's actually rather adorable.

"They don't use real animals anymore," You inform the blonde, watching as his eyes widen in amazement, it would seem he isn't aware of Buggy's new policy. "They use holograms now to create the illusion of animals so that no real ones are harmed."

"Wow, really?!" Rosinante blurts, his eyes almost leaping from his skull and causing a giggle to erupt from your throat, this is the first time you've seen this man openly express such excitement. "I wanna see that~!!"

"Hm...okay, I don't have work until this evening so we have time."

As you hook your bag over your shoulder, your sweet date takes the empty coffee mug and water bottle, throwing the bottle in the trash and passing the mug over the counter to Makino before paying for the beverages.

You hadn't originally intended to let him buy yours but something tells you that he wouldn't allow you to do it even if you tried.

He waits at the door for you and takes a gentle grip on your hand as you exit the café together, immediately causing your heart to pound inside your chest and your face to heat up as you feel eyes on you, catching little whispers from people you pass.

"Donquixote has a girlfriend?"

"Shit, she's cute!"

This is...different.
