School. One of the most hated places on Earth. Where you have to face people you don't like, stress over tests, and watch as people judge your clothes, looks, and just in general, you. Well, some people call it 'hell' for a reason.
Clark felt trapped the whole day. He tried his best to focus, but he couldn't. He barely got any sleep last night... he stayed up thinking about Johanna. Not in a weird way or anything, but just about how great she was... but also about her confession.
When he left school he tried his best to avoid her. He didn't want to talk to her; he didn't feel... ready. He didn't feel the courage to go up to her, tell her how he felt, and move on.
But, unfortunately, as he was walking home, Johanna caught up to him.
"Hey," she said, smiling at him.
"Hi."
She bit her lip, probably trying to think of what to say because she didn't usually talk. "You okay?"
"Fine." Clark didn't expect the words to be as bitter as they were when they came out.
"Are you sure about that?"
They arrived closer to their houses.
"Yes."
"Well, today-"
"Look, Johanna, I've got to get home quick. I have loads of homework."
Johanna frowned, the sunshine wiped from her face. "Okay. I'll see you around."
Clark and Johanna departed, each going to their own house.
